Blue Eagles Achieve the Season-long Goal - The Waldbaum's Cup

Right before the start of the first Waldbaum's Cup game, back in March, the team made a committment to themsleves to win this year's Waldbaum's Cup.

In a bracket that had 29 teams, the Blue Eagles went through 5 rounds, giving up just 3 goals (in 2 games), shutting out their opponent in 3 games, and won the final game in a shootout, after 80 minutes of regulation and two 7-minute overtimes left the game deadlocked at 0-0.

The team had a remarkable season and should all be very proud of their accomplishment.

Blue Eagles Finish in First in Winter Futsal
First Place Trophy

Congratulations to all the boys in finishing atop their division in Futsal this Winter. The team had to contend with two teams in higher LIJSL divisions; Stony Brook and East Islip, as well as two tough teams in their own divison: Newfield And Sachem.

Teamwork, precision passing and hard-nose defense led the team to a 7-1 record. Secoond place East Islip finished with a 5-3 mark.

Two new additions to the team's defense; Anthony Ketterer and Brian Schanel. allowed the team to be more diverse, often fielding 4 separate lines in a game; always keeping a fresh team on the field. A new trainer, Courtney Boothe, also worked them extra hard during the indoor training season, which helped with their stamina and indoor ball control.

Let's hope the boys can bring this winning spirit to the outdoor game this spring.

Again, Congrats to all players, parents and coaches.

Blue Eagles Take Third Place in East End Tournament
3rd Place Soccer Ball

With very little time to get to know the team, our three new players, Mark, Mike G & Mike L began contributing almost immediately. Placed in a division with upper division teams, the boys would face tough competition early.

The first game was against Division 4 East Islip. Despite having the better play most of the game, the Blue Eagles fell 4-1, helped in part by some really poor officiating. Division 3 Massapequa Thunder was the next opponent. They were fast and well skilled, but we stayed with them throughout the game and nearly tied them in the last seconds. The final was a 3-2 loss. The Massapequa coach said it was their toughest game.

Having started the tournament 0-2, the boys took the momentum from the second half of the Massapequa game and thoroughly took apart Division 5 rival, Longwood Thundercats. Great passing, great defense and superb goal keeping turned into a dominant 6-0 victory.

The last game of the tournament was against the Division 4 Levittown Rowdies. Going into the game we knew they were a tough physical team. The Rowdies through the boys off their game early and went up 3-1. The boys regrouped, decided to play their game and began their comeback. The physical play by the Rowdies began to cost them with penalties, which the boys took advantage of. Scoring 3 unanswered goals in the second half, they came away with a hard fought and well deserved 4-3 win and securing a third place finish in the tournament. As an added note, the referee from the last game praised the boys on keeping their composure and playing their game despite the rough play on the part of Levittown.

Congrats go to our keepers, Greg, Tom & Ryan for some great goal tending; our defense which played most of the tournament without subs; and the entire offense which came together rather quickly. Lastly, thanks to our new players for becoming part of the Blue Eagles so quickly.

Congratulations to the Blue Eagles' Second Place Finish
2nd Place

In one of the most exciting 15 minutes of soccer I have had the privilege to be a part of,or even watch, the boys scored 4 goals to earn a tie with the Sachem Tornadoes.

Sachem took a commanding 3-0 lead that went to 4-1 with only 15 minutes left in the game. With 4 beautiful goals by four different players - Brendan, Zack, Tommy & Timmy - in what seemed like a Blue Eagle onslaught, we came up short of winning the game when the ref blew the game over in the middle of a break-away. If the game had just lasted another 2 minutes...???

The tie earned the team a second place finish with a record of 5-2-2, with the two losses coming in games in which were missing three players. This should earn the team a spot in Division 5 in the upcoming fall season.

Congrats to the players and coaches as they finished in a first place tie with the Brentwood Cosmos. The team finished with a 4-0-1 record allowing only three goals and scoring seventeen by nine different players.

The addition of three new players, who fit in with the team seamlessly, a great defense, plus a well rounded offense proved to be the secret to success.

Their last game was a 4-1 victory over previous nemesis Longwood Thundercats, which was attended by team trainer Moussa Sy who was very impressed with the boys' play.

The victory was followed by a team BBQ and pool party, where the boys got a chance to savor their success.

Boys Take 2nd Place in Futsal for Second Season
2nd Place
The boys finished a wonderful winter Futsal season by taking 2nd Place after losing to a fine East Islip team in the finals.

Although they didn't walk away with the championship, they played a fantastic - undefeated - regular season and should be very proud of the way they played and developed their skills.

As East Islip is on the Blue Eagle's Spring schedule, the boys are targeting that game for a little rivalry in the making.

The coaches are proud of the way the boys played and look forward to a very successful spring season.
