DAN NICOLL SIGNS WITH HAMPDEN-SYDNEY

Dan Nicoll, a three year Varsity starting pitcher for Bishop Ireton has signed with Hampden-Sydney College.  Hampden-Sydney, a well respected private college in Virginia founded in 1775, is the 10th oldest college in the USA.  The HSC Tigers play in the competitive Old Dominion Athletic Conference, last capturing the ODAC Championship in 2005.  Congratulations to Dan and the Nicoll family!

RABIEJ HEADING TO HAMPDEN-SYDNEY

Looks like Hampden-Sydney College will be rich with BI Cardinal pitching talent as Luke Rabiej, a two year starting southpaw pitcher for Bishop Ireton, has decided to join his teammate by signing on to pitch for the HSC Tigers.  Congratulations to Luke and the Rabiej family!

CK KRAFT GETTYSBURG BOUND

CK Kraft, a three sport starting Varsity athlete for the Bishop Ireton Cardinals, has signed to play next year with Gettysburg College.  Since its founding in 1832, the College has upheld a rigorous commitment to the liberal arts.  The Gettysburg Bullets are a founding member of the Centennial Conference, one of the premier conferences for Division III athletics.  Congratulations to CK and the Kraft family!

CARDINALS DEFEATED IN WCAC FINAL

Baseball is truly a game of inches... The BI Cardinals gave it all they had until the bitter end, but it was just not meant to be - as the PVI Panthers defeated the Good Guys 4-3.

The game began on Monday - with BI giving away 2 early runs, but rallied behind John Robertson's solid pitching.  The Cards scored 2 in the 4th when Luke Rabiej and Brian Lewis singled; followed by a Tommy Kiesner RBI single, and a CK Kraft RBI double.

Frankie Zare led off the bottom of the 5th by reaching on an error; then manufactured a run by stealing second, and then third, before scoring the go-ahead run on a Rabiej RBI grounder.  BI had the "mo", the lead, #1 on the hill, and two innings to go...  In came rain and confusion...  Although the game was "in the books" - it was decided to "suspend" the game and be picked up in the top of the 6th on Wednesday...

Big difference - but even after PVI scored a run in each of the final two innings to take the lead, the Cardiac Cardinals just had to make it exciting in the bottom of the last.  Matt Welch led off by getting plunked.  Drew Lichtenberger followed with a great sacrifice bunt and reached first on a bad throw.  Rabiej followed with another "exciting" sacrifice bunt; putting the tying and winning runs in scoring position.  Brian Lewis then hit a scorching line drive to the left side that appeared to be the game winner - unfortunately the infield had just moved back from playing in and the line shot was snared for a game-ending DP...

...there is no joy in Mudville, as this writer is signing out.

It's been a great 4 years - many, many wonderful memories.  Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did - Bye >> Go Cardinals!!!

Get off your Tailfeathers and root for your Cardinals!!!

JOHN ROBERTSON NAMED TO WCAC 1st TEAM!

ROBERTSON AND 3 OTHER SENIORS NAMED TO WCAC TEAMS

John Robertson, BI Senior and "Mr. Consistency" all season for the Cardinal baseball team, was aptly named to the WCAC 1st team as Pitcher.  A very deserving honor for Robertson, who was the Cardinal's leading pitcher and hitter this past season!

Dan Nicoll, BI's "Gunslinger" Pitcher; and CK Kraft, the Card's "Sparkplug" Outfielder; were honored to the WCAC 2nd team.  Luke Rabiej, a BI southpaw Pitcher / Outfielder / DH,  was selected to the WCAC 3rd team as a Utility player.

Matt Welch, Catcher; Drew Lichtenberger, Secondbase; and Frankie Zare, Shortstop;  were named as Honorable Mention.

All 7 players are BI Seniors and have played large roles the past few years for Coach Mike Gallagher -- Congratulations to all!!!
