Championship Game against Kuper Academy

The 5-0 loss didn't reflect the game at all. We had Kuper on their heels until they scored at the 10 minute mark of the first. In the second, Devon Thompson made an end to end rush, and after a scramble in front of the net, she tucked the puck in, but the ref didn't  see it cross the goal line. In my opinion, this was the turning point of the game.  We had so many chances to score, but luck didn't fall on our side. Kuper went on to score two unanswered goals at the end of the second, and two more at the end of the third. You Girls have to be very proud of yourselves! We weren't even supposed to be in Division 1, but look where we ended up, in the Championship Game.

I saw a lot of improvement from all the girls and I hope you had FUN!

It was a pleasure for Roddy and I to coach you Girls!

A very big Thank You to Caren Macbeth, for the excellent job in managing the team, and also helping behind the bench!

Wednesday, February 20
Playoff Game: 2 -1 Overtime Thriller Win Against CJE

As far as I'm concerned this was a Championship Win against our arch rivals CJE . The Game was tied until the last period when CJE scored first. The Blazers tied it up with  3 minutes left when Kasandra Galarneau scored, pinching from the point with a one timer.  The game went into OT, and at the 13-minute mark, Christina Cox made an end to end rush, stopping in the corner, and passed it out to Sarah Horvat, who one-timed it for the winner. (a Kodak moment). Chelsey Stuart-Duval had a stellar performance in nets.  All the girls played so well, and totally deservered this AWESOME WIN!    ATTAGIRLS!!

Monday, February 18
Hockey Practice tomorrow

Last minute practice scheduled girls - tomorrow 15:00 , Tuesday Feb 19 after school.  Please make an effort to be there. This will be to our advantage in order to prep for the CJE game!
As for Wednesday's game, because of bussing schedules you'll be dismissed at noon for a 12:10 (sharp) departure.
There is a Belle Province restaurant near the arena - we can drop our bags & walk over, please bring money, or  you can bring your lunch.

Game 9: 1-1 tie with CJE

WOW, what an awesome game, coming back from an early 2 goal deficit for the tie. You girls executed our game plan in the second and third periods perfectly. I was extremely impressed with the shooting and rushing the net for the rebound. I stress this so much, and you executed this basic requirement. I also liked the  back-checking, even when you had nothing left in the tank, I saw the effort to get back!. The OUTS from our zone, with quick/hard passes, and no hesitation, help us a lot. All these basic elements of the game that we talk about so much, will give us  success in the  playoffs against our arch rivals CJE.

Remember, just skate, pass, shoot HARD, win all the battles on the boards, gain the slot, shoot, rebound, and most of all,... "don't take you eye off the puck until the goalie freezes it"!

Thursday, February 7
Game 8: 5-2 Loss to Kuper

This game was another excellent effort against a very good team. We had them up 1-0 in the first, and won that period. We came up short in the second/third periods, and let them out skate us. We had our chances but didn't capitalize, and that's a No No against this team. Like I said earlier in the year, "Lets keep on working hard, and Luck will come our way in the final game of the season, and the playoffs!"  Don't ever give up GIRLS!

Notre Dame College tournament - Final results and comments from the ND Tourney Organizer/Coach Sylvain Gendron

HSB Girls hockey made a good impression at this tournament, as you can see from the ND tournament Organizer/Coach Sylvain Gendron's email.

St Therese won the tournament 3 -2 in a shoot-out

Saturday, January 26
Notre Dame Tournament Game 3: 4 - 1 loss to STE-THÉRÈSE Game 4: for Bronze 2 - 1 shoot-out loss to CJE

We lost the Semi to a very good Prep school hockey team, that can easily compete at the midget AA level. So we should be very proud of ourselves. The Bronze game was ours until they scored a lucky goal in the third period. We were all over them in the last minute of play, missing two open net attempts, only to lose in the second wave of shoot outs.  That's hockey, we gained a lot of experience from this tournament, and it will only better prepare us for our final two league games against CJE and Kuper, and the playoffs.

Saturday, January 26
GOOD LUCK today Girls!

Friday, January 25
Notre Dame Tournament Game 2: 4 - 1 win to Notre Dame College

Well Girls, there you go. We came prepared, and you all played an AWESOME game! I'm sure the fans enjoyed it. I certainly did. Play like this tomorrow, and we will win this Tourney!

Thursday, January 24
Notre Dame Tournament Game 1: 5 - 2 Loss to CJE

When you fail to plan, you plan to lose,... that's why I totally take the blame for this loss! I didn't set-up a proper line-up or game plan for this game. I simply let the girls play where they wanted, and that's a NO NO in Girls High School Hockey. I promise that next game I will be better prepared!  The coaches will do their homework and deliver the required line-up and game plan for you girls to execute!   I apologize Girls!

Wednesday, January 23
Please keep an eye on the schedule for updates in Jan. and Feb.

Girls, the bus will be leaving the school tomorrow at 15:00, so be there for 14:45! THX

Parents, please try to come and watch the games. The Girls are really playing entertaining hockey!  The tournament will be very competitive.

Tuesday, January 22
Game 7: 11-2 Win against QAA

WIN AGAIN!    Like the last game, QAA scored first to wake us up. Then the Blazers just dominated for the second game in a roll. Now let's bring the same game play to the ND tourney on Thursday!

Caren and I will be informing the girls via email and this website on the bus departure times from the school to  Notre Dame College for Thursday,Friday, and Saturday.

Please open file below to view Tournament schedule! Thx

Handout: Notre Dame Tournament Schedule

Saturday, January 19
Game 6: 8-3 Win against QAA

WIN! WIN! WIN!   There we go, slowly but surely, we keep on getting better.  We finally entered the WIN column on the scoreboard. It was a scary start though, behind by two goals in the  first. Once we scored our first,  we just dominated, winning the puck battles, accompanied by a lot of passing and shooting!. This is exactly the way we must play in the tournament this week. I'm proud of  you Girls! Keep up the hard work!

Thursday, January 10
Notre Dame Tournament Schelule Jan 23-26

Girls, here is the schedule for the Notre Dame Tournament.

We are now registered and the tournament fees $275 have been paid

Everyone must ensure that they are available to play. So please check your schedules and if you have conflicts please make the necessary changes now. THX

Friday, January 11
Game 5: 1-1 tie against CJE

This game was ours all the way! A lucky goal in the 3rd period tied the game. Taking into consideration the holiday break, and 3 girls missing, we finally made our way out of the loss category. WAY TO GO  GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now on the negative side of the fence. I was very disappointed to see only 5 girls at the practice today. I know that 3 girls had a legitimate reason for not attending. What happened to the rest of you?

I know that academics come first, and I totally agree, and there are exceptions, but like I emphasized at the beginning of the year when I made the final roster. I asked all of you to be organized, and prioritize your academic workload, because we are in the 1st division which is strong, and we must attend all practices (once a week) in order to be competitive.

 NO EXCUSES!

Monday we practiced with 10 girls, then had a game against the boys, which was excellent! The game against the boys was probably the reason why we did so well in our game!

Roddy and I  make the time and effort to prepare practice drills, game strategies, and lineups.  We need all the girls there to benefit from these practices.  I expect all you girls  to make the effort to attend a once a week practice! You all seem to show for the games, but not the practices. Please make the effort to attend practices for the rest of the season.

Game 4: 5-3 loss to Kuper

Well Girls, we almost had them! We gave them a real run for the win, which they probably didn't expect! Now they can't say that they let up on us! They got an early first period 3 goal lead on us, but like true warriors we came back and ended the period 3-2. The next two periods were see-saw battles ending 4-2, and 5-3 respectively.

With this steady improvement a win is around the corner!

Girls, FYI, I received a lot of excellent feed-back after the game from our fans,  that we are providing them with some very entertaining hockey to watch!

CJE and QAA better watch out for this HSB Blazer Team!

Caitlyn, congrats on your first goal, keep on shooting like that from the point! ATTAGIRL!

Let's all show up for practice tomorrow, and work on the CARDIO!

Game 3: 7 to 1 loss to Kuper

Girls,  Kuper were strong as expected. We outplayed them in the first period, missing a lot of scoring opportunities, which would have knocked the wind out of their sails. Period ended 2-1, The second period belonged to Kuper, ending 5-1. We came back strong in the third, again missing a lot of scoring opportunities, especially in the last minute,  ending 7-1.

But the real story was the Goaltending performance of Kayla Higgins, a center forward who suited up as the goalie, and was just amazing considering the odds. Thanks to Kayla we didn't have to forfeit, and made Kuper work hard for the win!

As a coach, I couldn't ask for a better effort from all our Girls!  Well done!

Monday, November 26
Team Pictures

Girls, let me know ASAP if you are interested in getting team pictures this year.  A friend of MR. Stanstead Tournament

Stanstead Tournament Feb. 28 & 29.  Girls, is it a GO or No Go? Lets discuss further.

Wednesday, November 21
Second Game: 2-1 loss to CJE

As I mentioned, finalizing the team roster certainly made us more competitive. We out played/shot CJE, and executed our game plan well. I saw a lot of plays that we practiced, ie: D to D and break outs. We had a lot of really good shots on net,  especially the one timers, but we faced a hot CJE goalie. Good game Girls!

Lets all show up for practice tomorrow so we can prepare for the Kuper game next Monday.

Thursday, November 15
First Game : 6-2 loss to QOA

The Fire Alarm & No Show Referee game! Were some of the distractions that altered the outcome of this game. All in all, a good start to the season. Next game we will have our Final Roster, which will help us be more competitive in the 1st division.
