Pitching Rules

Starting with the 2007 season, pitchers in all divisions of Little League, from age 7 to 18, will have specific limits for each game, based on their age.

The number of pitches delivered in a game will determine the amount of rest the player must have before pitching again.  The number of pitches allowable under the new regulation is based on the pitcher’s age.  Specific rest periods are in place when a pitcher reaches a higher threshold of pitches delivered in a day.

The table below gives an overview of the number of pitches that will be allowed per day for each age group during the regular season.

Total Pitches allowed per day by age:

85 Pitches = 11 & 12 year old players
75 Pitches = 9 & 10 year old players
50 Pitches = 7 & 8 year old players

All Pitchers that must adhere to the following rest requirements:

61 or more pitches in a day = three (3) calendar days of rest & at least 1 game rest.
41 - 60 pitches in a day = two (2) calendar days of rest & at least 1 game rest.
21 - 40 pitches in a day = one (1) calendar day of rest.
1-20 pitches in a day = no calendar day of rest is required before pitching again.

In addition to these rules, pitchers that are removed from a game are is prohibited from playing the position of catcher for the remainder of that day.

Pitch Count Documentation

Major and Minor League managers are required to complete the Baseball Game Pitch Log for every game played.  Pitch counts should be kept by each team for BOTH teams playing in that specific game.  Pitch count trackers should compare their running count after every inning to avoid any discrepencies.  The forms are to be turned in after every game to the appropriate player agent.

Major League Managers

Major East Managers should turn in their forms to Tom Smith every week.

Major West Manager should turn in their forms to Rich Swiniuch every week.

The Baseball Pitcher Eligibility Tracking Form is to be completed and signed for every game as well and turned in on a weekly basis.

Minor League Managers:

Minor East managers should email player agent Jan Modini every Sunday with their pitch count information from the previous week.  Minor West managers should send theirs to Jack Dean.
