Gimme Shelter: Indoor practices helping Beverly squads gear up for Williamsport

As scene-setting backdrops go, the constant cold, mist and rain of the last week or so doesn't exactly scream "Little League World Series."

With Friday's District 15 Williamsport Little League all-star tournament opener looming, Mother Nature hasn't given local youngsters much of a chance to strut their stuff on rain-soaked local diamonds.

All Star Selection Process

All-Star players for the 10 year old, 11 year old, 12 year old and Williamsport All-Star teams are voted on by the Managers, Coaches, and Player Agent of the Major Division.  This is the process that is used:

  1. A couple of days prior to the voting of players, the East Managers and Coaches along with the Player Agent will all get together.  Each team will be given a list of every player on each team.  Each team will then stand up and talk about each of their own players and speak about their strengths.  They will then be taking questions from the other Managers and Coaches.
  2. The West Managers and Coaches along with the Player Agent will also get together and will conduct the same exact thing.
  3. The Managers of the East Major teams and the West Major teams will report to Harry Ball Field to vote the All-Star teams.
  4. No team will be allowed to vote for any of their own players.
  5. It is a written but silent vote.  The Player Agent and the Vice President of Beverly Little League will tally the votes on or after June 15th.
  6. The 9 year old players will be selected by 4 coaches from the Minor League as well as the 2 Player Agents for the Minor League as well as the Director of Baseball Operations for Beverly Little League as well as the President of Beverly Little League.  This selection will also be made on or after June 15th.
