Rockies vs Braves
The Rockies open up the 2005 playoffs against the Braves on Wednesday June 15th at 5:30 on Harry Ball A. The Rockies enter the playoffs as the 4th seeded team in the East with a 10-8 record (9-3 East). The 5th place Braves also enter the game at 10-8; however the Rockies swept the season series.

Rockies pick up 10th victory over Braves: 12-7
The Rockies lineup proved just how strong it is from top to bottom as they reversed the batting order and still managed to pile up 12 runs against the Braves. The leagues top offense finished off the regular season with a record setting 144 runs and a team batting average of .312. Although the 144 runs is not the most ever scored by a Major A team, the 2005 Rockies average of 8 runs a game is the highest recorded (the record is 170 runs in 24 games).
The Braves pitching was unable to find an easy out all game as all 11 Rockies reached base and 10 different players scored runs. Jeremy Barrand led the offense from the third spot in the lineup reaching base three times (a single and 2 walks) and scoring all three times. Connor Mooney burst out of his recent slump in a big way with his third inning triple. Connor also had 2 RBI and a run scored on the day. Jason Scouras reached base twice including a bases loaded RBI single to spark the 5 run third inning.
The Rockies attempted to keep all their pitchers fresh for the playoffs by pitching four different players. Nick Rosenberger (3-0) picked up the win going two solid innings allowing just three earned runs. Cam Rogers looked sharp in two inning of relief giving up just two hits and a run. Greg Perron worked out of a jam in the fifth and escaped giving up just two runs on two hits. In the sixth the Rockies called on Steve Wilbur to close the game out. Steve retired the Braves in order in the sixth including two strike outs.
The Rockies improved to 10-8 on the season good for fourth place in the East. They finished with the second best East record at 9-3.
Rockies win third straight: 11-1
The Rockies continued their hot play in June with a strong offensive and defensive effort in an 11-1 victory over the Padres. During June the Rockies are undefeated, knocking off three straight East opponents to improve to 9-7 overall and a fantastic 8-2 in the East. The offense continues its impressive season with 131 runs scored, 30 more than any other team, and a team batting average of 321.
Steve Wilbur won his second straight start going three superb innings of shutout ball. He allowed just three hits and four walks. Steve was able to work out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first and runners in scoring position in third without allowing a run. Cam Rogers worked one inning of relief giving up just one run and a hit. The defense behind both Steve and Cam was flawless. Jeremy Barrand made a key catch in right field with the bases loaded to kill a potential Padres rally. Nick Rosenberger looked solid behind the plate in his catching debut while Tony Walsh continued his excellent to impress behind the plate throwing out the only runner who attempted to steal on him.
Offensively it was much of the same for the leagues best lineup. Ryan 'Foz' Lane broke the game open in the second with his RBI double. Steve Wilbur went 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBI while Ryan Winslow went 2 for 2 with a double and scored twice. Greg Perron extending his hitting streak to 8 games with his second inning double. Greg leads the team with 25 RBI and 9 doubles.
Sunday, June 5
Jason Scouras' 6th inning run knocks off Pirates: 6-5
In one of the best games of the year the Rockies knocked off the red hot Pirates. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth Jason Scouras scored on a pass ball to give the Rockies the 6-5 win. Jason reached base with a walk and was advanced by a key single by Dan Terner and a walk by Jeremy Barrand.
The Pirates sent their ace, Gonzalez, to the mound Sunday in hopes of shutting down the leagues top offense. While Gonzalez looked dominant the first two innings the Rockies bats battled back in the 3rd. Trailing 2-0, the Rockies got started in the 3rd when Adam Capodilupo knocked in the first Rockies' run with a bases loaded walk. Then Greg Perron continued his 7 game hitting streak with a two run double to give the Rockies the 3-2 lead. After falling behind 5-3 in the top of the fifth it was Perron again who even the score with a two run triple. Greg finished the game going 2 for 3 with four RBI. Steve Wilbur also contributed to the offensive effort with two runs and a single.
While the offense did enough to win, the Rockies were lead by strong pitching and defense. Dan Terner turned in four strong innings allowing just 2 runs and 3 hits. After falling behind in the early innings Dan settled down and retired the last six batters he faced in order. Adam Capodilupo earned the win with two innings of solid relief. Adam allowed 2 earned runs while only allowing 3 hits and a walk. Behind Dan and Adam the defense was again excellent. Jason Scouras looked strong at 3rd base with 2 assists and a put out while Cam Rogers continued to impress in center field.
The Rockies improved to 8-7 on the year and 7-2 in the East.
Friday, June 3
Rockies knock off Cardinals behind Steve Wilbur's complete game: 9-5
After two tough losses the Rockies needed a strong pitching performance. Steve Wilbur gave them that performance going the distance to top the Cardinals. After a tough first inning where the Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Steve was fantastic giving up just two runs and three hits over the next five innings. While only striking out three his control was outstanding as he walk just two batters. The defense behind Steve got back on track with a strong outing. Jason Scouras was the defensive standout of the game with two assists and a put out at third base. Shortstop Adam Capodilupo added five assists while Greg Perron played very well at first.
Offensively it was much of the same for the leagues top offense. The bats were again hot scoring 9 runs on 10 hits. Tony Walsh lead the offense going 3 for 3 with a triple and a run scored. Greg Perron continued his red hot hitting streak going 2 for 3 with a double, triple and 3 RBI. Over the last three games Greg has 7 hits including 4 doubles and 2 triples with 10 RBI and 5 runs. Adam Capodilupo added 2 hits, 2 RBI, and a run. Jason Scouras also reached base twice scoring both times and adding a steal. Jeremy Barranded added an RBI in the bottom of the fifth to help clinch the game.
The Rockies improved to 7-7 on the year and an impressive 6-2 in the East. They still boast the leagues top scoring offense at 114 runs and an outstanding team batting average of .309.

The Rockies offense explodes in 16-9 victory over Braves
The Rockies (6-4) moved within a game of second place with a 16-9 win over the Braves (7-3). Through ten games this season the Rockies have shocked the league with their dynamic offense. Averaging almost 8 runs a game, the league top scoring offense (78 runs) is on pace to score over 150 runs on the season. The Giants (67) are now the only team within 25 runs of the Rockies. With their win over the Braves they improve to 5-1 in the East, outscoring opponents in those games 62-34.
Steve Wilbur continued to be the ignition for the offense reaching base all four at bats and scoring three runs. Steve has now scored an impressive 16 runs on the season. Ryan Winslow and Nick Rosenberger helped to fuel the offense by adding three runs each. Adam Capodilupo went 2-4 with a double, run scored and 4 RBI while Ryan 'the Foz' Lane reached base all three at bats and scored two runs. The entire Rockies lineup was red hot with eight different players scoring runs and every batter reaching base.
The pitching, although overshadowed by the offense, was again solid. Adam Capodilupo made his third start of the season and improved to a perfect 3-0. Adam went three innings giving up five hits while striking out three. Cam Rogers finished the game with two strong innings of relief giving up just three runs on two hits.
The Rockies again bounced back from a tough loss earlier in the week. They have not dropped back to back games all season.

Rockies suffer first East loss at the hands of Giants: 9-3
The Rockies bats were kept silent for three innings by Giant's ace Joe Wioncek and they fell behind early 6-0. Despite strong play in the last three innings the Rockies were not able to overcome the Giant's strong start. The Rockies remain 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the East.
Offensively, Greg Perron gave the Rockies their first hit with his third inning triple. Greg finished the day 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Connor Mooney, Dan Terner, and Jeremy Barrand all added singles.
The pitching was far better than the scoreboard showed. Dan Terner was solid for three innings giving up just four hits and striking out three. Tony Walsh was very strong in three innings of relief giving up just one earned run and no hits.
Sunday, May 15
Rosenberger and Rogers Shutdown Red Sox: 8-5
The Red Sox jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first inning; however their offense was completely shut down for the remainder of the game by strong Rockie pitching. After falling behind in the first, the Rockies turned the game over to their pair of ten year olds, Nick Rosenberger and Cam Rogers. The duo turned out fantastic outings combining for five innings of just one hit baseball and surrendering just one run. Nick improved to 2-0 on the season with three innings of strong relief. He kept the Red Sox hitless while giving up just one run and striking out three. Cam Rogers was equally dominating working two innings of shutout baseball to pick up his second save of the season. Cam struck out five of the eight batters he faced and gave up just one hit and a walk.
The Rockies quietly racked up 8 runs on 6 hits to improve to 5-3 on the season. Steve Wilbur reached base in all three at bats and scored three runs. Jeremy Barrand went 2-2 with an RBI, stolen base, and a run. Ryan 'the Foz' Lane also added an RBI single in the second to give the Rockies the 5-4 lead.
The Rockies (5-3, East: 4-0) remain in 3rd place in the East just a game behind the Braves. Through eight game they continue to boast the leagues most dangerous offense scoring an impressive 59 runs.
Sunday, May 16
Blue Jays snap Rockies winning streak: 7-3
The Rockies offense was cooled off Saturday by quality pitching and strong defense by the Blue Jays. While the leagues top offense was able to rack up 7 hits it was not enough to top the Jays. Jeremy Barrand was an offensive highlight with a hard hit double and scoring the Rockies first run. Ryan 'the Foz' Lane added a single and RBI which tied up the game in the third. Steve Wilbur continued his strong start to the season reaching base all three at bats, with two singles and a walk.
Dan Terner made his first start after injuring his forearm and looked very impressive over three innings of work. Dan allowed just one run and one hit while striking out four. Ryan Winslow worked two solid innings of relief surrendering just four hits while striking out two. Cam Rogers finished the game off registering two strikeouts in the sixth. Defensively catcher Tony 'pudge' Walsh continued to prove how difficult he is to steal on by throwing out the only Blue Jay who attempted to steal on him.
The Rockies remain in 3rd place in the East with a record of 4-3. With the exception the the undefeated Giants, they remain the only team undefeated against East opponents (4-0).
Thursday, May 12
Red hot offense leads Rockies to 11-5 victory
The entire Rockies' lineup continued to rack up runs as they won their third straight game improving to 4-2 and remaining undefeated in the East at 4-0. The leagues top offense scored 11 runs on 10 hits to knock off the Padres 11-5. The Rockies are averaging an impressive 8 runs a game and have scored 48 runs on the year.
Tony 'pudge' Walsh continued his strong early season hitting going 2-3 with a double, run and RBI. Jason Scouras reached base all three at bats, scoring two runs, with a single, two walks, and a stolen base. Cam Rogers looked strong at the plate as well going 2-3 with a double, run and RBI.
Adam Capodilupo made his third start of the season going two innings, giving up just one earned run on one hit. Nick Rosenberger was strong in three innings of relief picking up his first win of the year. Nick held the Padres hitless giving up just one earned run while striking out two. Steve Wilbur closed out the game giving up just one hit and one run. The Rockies' defense was strong all game. Jason Scouras played well at third and made an excellent catch in right field.
