Jose Cedeno has been coaching soccer since 2002. He holds a Nationally Licensed USSF “B,” a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and a NSCAA National Youth Diploma. Jose was born in Ecuador and grew up in Queens, NY. He played at Newtown High School where they won the Public School Athletic League title in 1996. He then went on to play at Ulster Community College in upstate NY and then transferred to Saint Peter’s College (D1) in Jersey City, NJ where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. After college he traveled to Croatia and competed against professional D2 teams. He then returned to the US to get his Masters Degree in Sports Management at Brooklyn College and continues to dedicate himself to becoming an elite soccer coach.

Jose brings a wealth of club, high school, college, and ODP (Eastern NY) coaching experience with him to Belmont United SC. In 2003, he started working at the club level at Downtown United Soccer Club in Manhattan and coached numerous boys and girls teams of various ages. He also coached club with the Brooklyn Patriots SC with a Premier U18 girl’s team. In 2005, Jose accepted the position of head coach of the Men’s Soccer Program at Hunter College in Manhattan and with his leadership over 7 years, the program went on to win two post-season conference titles, one regular season title, and they earned two bids to the NCAA tournament. During that time, Jose was voted conference “Coach of the Year.”

As Director of Coaches and Player’s Development at Belmont United Soccer Club, Jose will be responsible to hire, evaluate and assist all coaches in the club. He will also be in charge of designing and implementing a curriculum for the development of the boys and girls club teams as well as for the youth academy program.

Jose and his wife are now residing in Northern California where he plans to use his experience and knowledge to lead Belmont United Soccer Club.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Belmont United Soccer Club is a growing club that encourages youth soccer players to reach their full potential on and off the field. We believe that the game is the best teacher and that players learn by playing. The club is committed to player and team development through an emphasis on skill development, “love of the game” and discipline.

In order to accomplish our mission, the club is committed to:

  • Guiding soccer players to strive for excellence both on and off the field 
  • Encouraging soccer players to be assertive, to take risks and to try new things 
  • Creating dynamic training sessions where players can explore, be creative, and express themselves 
  • Fun! 
  • Traditional values of hard work, respect, teamwork, and fair play 
  • Conducting age-appropriate exercises that reflect the game of soccer 
  • A motivated and professional coaching staff with a desire for continued learning, growth and improvement 
  • Ensuring that coaches are USSF licensed and/or certified by the NSCAA
  • Offering a variety of learning environments for soccer players including the year-round academy program, clinics, summer camps, and a winter indoor league.
