PLAYER DEVELOPMENT APPROACH

Team Assignments - Players:

Belmont United will strive to have a squad of two to three teams playing at the same age/gender level:

  • A White team
  • A Red team
  • A Black team

The White team will compete at a higher level of competition than the red or black team. The level that an individual team competes at will be determined by the team’s overall player level. At the start of each season the coaching director works with the age specific team coaches to place players within an age bracket on the team (White, Red and Black) that is most appropriate to an individual player’s development level.

Blue Teams - A Blue team is the highest level team across the Peninsula United Alliance that BUSC is a member club of. A club White team may become (or generate) a Blue team if it reaches Gold or Premier playing level.

Team Assignments - Coaches:
As part of our player development approach, at select intervals, Belmont United teams will transition to a new coach. This approach is important as it allows players to benefit from multiple voices as they progress in their soccer development. The coaching rotation is managed by the coaching director and will normally occur either as a team transitions across age brackets (see brackets in the Curriculum section below), or after a coach has been with a team for 3 years.

Curriculum:
The technical direction for all Belmont United teams is united under our coaching director. This ensures a natural progression to the technical focus for teams and helps ensures a smooth transition when a team moves to a new coach.

A high level list of the technical skills focused on in each age bracket are as follows:

  • U8-U11
    • Dribbling
    • Shooting
    • Passing and Receiving
    • 1v1 Attacking
  • U12-U14
    • Ball control (ground & air)
    • Turning
    • Heading
    • 1v1 defending
  • U15-U17
    • Crossing and finishing
    • Receiving to turn
    • Greater emphasis on the tactical, physical and psychological part of the game

Additional Opportunities - Skill clinics:
In addition to their bi-weekly training sessions with their team, all Belmont United players are eligible to participate in a weekly technical skills clinic run by our Director of Coaching. This additional day of technical skills training provides motivated players with an opportunity for an extra day of professional training to help them take their game to the next level.
