BAYSIDE LITTLE LEAGUE'S HISTORY
Bayside Little League was founded back in 1950. At that time it was a baseball program. In 1953 the BLL received it's first charter. It was founded by three fathers who had organized the three teams. The fields were at the corner of 35th Avenue and Bell Boulevard. In 1951 they moved into their first club house at 213-39 39th Avenue. They remained there until we were force to move due to selling of the movie theather. the Developers did not want to gives us a place in the new building unless we were willing to pay the going rent rate. We moved into our new location after Mr. Paul Rifino offered us the space.
BLL had grown from just a mere 300 children to over 900 children registered at present.
When BLL was first founded, there was a tryout and only a selected group were picked, turning away and disappointing a number of children. At present no child is turned away due to their talent.
At present the BLL has 7 divisions with at least 63 teams ranging from 5 year olds through 18 year olds. We also have grown from the original 3 fathers to over 25 Board Members. We have taken BLL members to China in 1995 and we have had teams go all the way to the State finals. Many of our members have gone on to play for their Varsity High School teams and on to play for their College teams. Out most famous player is Dave Valle who went on to play for MLB. We are considered the largest little league in the city.
