Field Help Needed

Hey guys, We are looking for a few good people to help out with the Field Team at the Bayside Area Little League Fields.  This is your opportunity to become one of the  “Grounds Crew” or as we like to call it “Field Team”!  Make no mistake we are not the trash can guysJ  we get to ride around on the cool tractors, three wheelers, and play in the red infield dirt!  It is not glorious by any means as we typically are the behind the scene guys that do the majority of the work and no one ever sees us.  The good thing is we like it that way, no politics, no body messing with you and we get the satisfaction of watching the fields bloom fist hand…  In case you don’t know we do have the nicest fields in our Little League District, which is the entire Bay Area community from Baytown to Galveston.  After Ike I am extremely proud to say that this will be even more obvious as we got on the fields so quick our turf and infields incurred absolutely Zero damage from the 4’ of rising water we saw at Bayside! O.K. the real deal is we need help, the fields are in great shape right now, but in order to insure our fields remain at the pinnacle for Houston area ball fields we need to plant for the winter.  We are currently in the process of preparing Field 2 for winter planting.  We are cutting it short, aerating it, dragging it, dropping rye grass seed, dragging it again, rolling it, and finally watering with a later application of fertilizer over the next two weeks.  This process will continue on to the rest of the fields over the course of the next month and a half as the ground temperatures continue decline.  These processes will insure that our kids have firm green turf to play on come spring as our base Bermuda mix will not start growing again until March/April.  If we do not prepare now we will have soggy brown turf come start of the spring season and our turf will not firm up until well after the season has been played and is over. Also as these processes pay off and we prepare other fields to do the like we will need some help mowing, I have been doing this by for the most part by myself once a week since the beginning of August it takes exactly 2:15 to mow all five fields with our Scag mower.  Dressing all infields with the three-wheeler once a week takes an extra 40 minutes on top of that.  I edge all fields every other week and it takes another 40 minutes every other week.  All things considered that is really not that much time even for a one person crew!  If we can get a few good hands we are looking at a small donation of your volunteer time per month in order to continue to have the nicest ball fields in the Houston area and it would really ease the burden on the few that have been helping. Please send me an email or call me on my cell, if you still have an interest in volunteering your valuable time as we would love to have you come out and see what we do.  I will be up there most days in afternoons either playing catch with my son on field 3 or working on the fields in general.  If you yourself cannot help and you might know of a friend or former Bayside teammate that would have an interest in helping your recruiting capabilities would be much appreciated.  I will not let our fields go down, failure is not an option, but all the same we as a team do need help to pull this off.   I played on these fields when I was a kid and I promise they are 10 times nicer now than then, I would like nothing more than to leave Bayside in much better shape than I found it this time around. Also our best wishes go out to those who have suffered a significant loss due to Ike, one of our team members is currently trying to get his homestead back in order.

Sincerely,

Johnny Timmons Jr. (jtimmons@galatiyacts.com / Cell: 281-830-6336)

FALL BALL REFUNDS
Attention Bayside Parents:
We have attempted to reach everyone regarding the cancellation of our Fall Ball season. We have heard from a majority who have either requested refunds or generously donated their fees to the league to assist us as we repair the fields in preparation for the spring season.  If we have not heard from you by November 21st regarding a refund request, we will assume that you have donated your fee to the league.  If you did not receive this information earlier for some reason, you have until November 21st to contact Sandy Yocum at sandyyocum@comcast.net to request your refund.  Please provide her with the player's name, parent name, address and phone number when you make that request.
**Fall Ball registration will NOT be applied to Spring registration**
Thank you to everyone who has assisted us this fall and we look forward to a fun and successful spring season.
