The Baltimore Bays United U17 Boys, current Maryland State Cup Champs and Maryland’s only Region 1 Premier League team at U17, have had a busy winter season already! Playing State-ranked #1-2 teams and / or other State Cup Champions at both the CASL and Disney Showcases has been an extremely demanding beginning to their club season, post-High School.
The level of competition has been very tough but despite a few reverses (in score-line if not in performances) the team has continued to develop and learn…getting better in each game at each individual tournament.Such learning finally culminated in a very good performance and a 0-0 tie vs the reigning National Champion Dallas Texans at Disney.
Bays United played well all over the field in the first half, creating a few good opportunities and restricting the Texans to one or two chances the other way. The second half showed Bays United’s fighting team spirit, when as Dallas pushed hard for a goal, they were kept to a couple of clear cut chances (with no real saves from the Bays keeper) and kept scoreless by solid team defending.
Bays United Head Coach Matt Fletcher was proud of the team’s efforts overall…”Due to players running deep into HS playoffs and the snow in MD we have been chronically short of preparation and games for these tournaments. This has been proven in the fact that our results and performances have gotten better by the second and third game in each. The players have worked hard, played some great soccer and without doubt have learned some lessons about playing such high level opponents.
A lot of our opponents have made minimal substitutions until maybe 70 mins into games, but we made a commitment to our lads to get everyone at least one half of game-time to show for watching prospective college coaches. It is somewhat disappointing that other teams place the result above their players chances to impress at Showcases, but we will stick to our commitment at all our Showcases this year and next. This team is very excited to take on another new challenge in the Region 1 Premier League this March and April, and defending its State Cup Title.”

Bays United progressed to the U16 Boys State Cup Final by beating the Freestate Arsenal 1-0 in a hard-fought semi-final match. The only goal of the game was scored just before half-time from close range by Tyler Parker. United's play epitomized the heart and fight within the group in gutting-out a tough second half, after a good first half performance. The final will be played on Saturday May 30th - location and time TBD.

Bays United won their second trophy of the spring season winning the Columbia Invitational over Memorial Day weekend, winning all four games in the process. Wins vs 07 and 08 DE State Cup Champs Delaware Blizzard, Colonial League Jersey United Patriots, and a good ESSC Ballerz team in group games, lead to a final vs PDA Beckham from NJ. In a very tough game, and after conceding the first goal, Bays United fought back and dug-in for a 2-1 win vs very worthy opponents to take the title.
