Great News from Nationals in Disney
JR Midget Cheer placed 3rd in nation out of 17 teams and also won the
Spirt of Sports Award
Congratulations to our Junior Midget Cheer team for finishing 2nd in the New England Regional competition. They are now headed to the National Championship in Florida
The Barrington Pop Warner Junior Midget Cheer Team placed 2nd at the New England Regional Competitions in Worcester this past Saturday – and this means they advance to the nationals at Disney in early December. This is a tremendous achievement and as far as anyone can recall – this is the first national berth for any team (cheer or football) from Barrington since the inception of Pop Warner in 1971. The team cheers during football games throughout the Pop Warner season – but all the while prepares for competition. This Junior Midget team won first place in their division at the RI state competition on October 22 and advanced past the first round of regional competition that took place in Springfield on November 6. The Barrington Pee Wee team also advanced beyond Springfield.
The final Regional competition was held on November 19 at the DCU center in Worcester and was an all day event. While the Pee Wee team competed at about 9 am, the Junior Midgets was the 58th team to perform at approximately 2 pm. After their performance, the team had to wait for over 6 hours until their 2nd place finish was finally announced.
The Junior Midget team consists of Megan Boyle, Talia DeLuca, Nicole DeMopoulos, Madeline Durkin, Alexandria Heiser, Emma Katzen, Olivia Kelley, Lila Medeiros, Taylor Norris, Lauren Richardson, Emily Walczak, Lindsay Wright and coaches Pat Martel and Monica Koehler.
The team will travel to Disney on December 5th, compete on December 7th, and return on December 8th. One night is reserved for events within the Disney MGM park.
