BATS 12u AA Win Spring Splash
Braving the cold temperatures, rain and spitting snow, the Barren River BATS 12 year old baseball team opened their 2008 USSSA campaign by winning the Spring Splash held at Beaver Trail Complex this past week-end.
On Saturday morning with temperatures in the low 40’s the only thing that heated up and stayed warm was the BATS bats. Barren River made quick work of the Franklin Flames scoring early and often enroute to a 15-0 win in 4 innings. Precision pitching, error-free baseball and everyone swinging the bats well contributed to a great start of their season.
The second game of the day appeared to be a carry over from their 9am first game. The BATS timely hitting, great pitching and defensive play enabled them to outscore and hold the KY Bearcats Federal team and win 10-1, again in 4 innings.
In the championship game on Sunday with a constant drizzle and fridged temperatures reaching the high 30’s at game time, the BATS would face the KY Bearcats Federal team from Bowling Green. Neither team opened the first frame with any offense but the BATS thawed out and started rolling in the second inning. The BATS scored 3 runs in the second frame, six in the third and 2 in the fourth to shut out the Bearcat Federals and win the Spring Splash 11-0.
The Barren River BATS will be back in action this week-end in Nashville, TN and will travel to Owensboro the 25-27 to close out their opening month of April.
