Ballard Junior Football: Welcome

image_name2
Welcome to the Ballard Junior Football website. Since 1962 Ballard Junior Football has provided the children of the greater Seattle area, between the ages of 7 through 14, a fun, safe and competitive football and cheerleading program. Ballard Junior football is only able to offer this opportunity through dedicated volunteers giving their time, and through community support. This is your site for information regarding Ballard Junior Football and all schedules, events and activities. Please check back often for  updates.

Practices: Practices begin Monday, August 2 from 5-7 p.m. In the month of August practice is everyday Monday thru Friday 5-7 p.m. Once school starts in September the practice schedule is every Tues Thurs Fri 5-7pm. 89ers Midgets PeeWees will be at Loyal Heights Playfield. Bantams and Juniors will be at Soundview (Whitman) Playfield. Cheer practices: During August practice is every Tuesday 6-7pm. Once school starts the practice schedule is every Tues and Thurs 6-7pm at Loyal Heights.

Practice will be as scheduled, rain or shine. Cancellation only happens if there's a chance of thunder/lighting or an unexpected emergency. Running will be a big part of conditioning your body, so drink lots of water throughout the day and bring plenty to practice. Remember to be in full gear, don't forget cups, mouth guards or cleats. Please remember to arrive 15 minutes early to put on cleats and gear, and be ready to start at 5 p.m. Also, water, water, water!!

If you train hard, you'll not only be hard, you'll be hard to beat. - Herschel Walker

Teams are organized by age and weight with five levels of play for ages 7-14. This is the most common approach in junior football and has been so for decades. Other leagues may not have weight restrictions and may offer fewer levels of play. Our approach increases participation opportunities and safety for all players.

Here are our five levels of play and the age and weight information:

2010 PPK Fundraiser August 21

Thanks to everyone who participated in the PPK Fundraiser this past Saturday at BHS Field. This year was especially exciting because the staff at BAM "Basic Athletic Measurement" offered free combine testing to all BJF participants. For more information about BAM and to view the results visit www.bamtesting.com

We would like to encourage those of you who still need to collect pledges to do so. The top fundraiser will be awarded a special prize and a pizza party for your team! Please turn in your pledge packets to your Team Parent no later than September 3rd.

As you know, the success of our fundraisers is only possible with community support and your participation.

We sincerely thank you once again and hope that you would extend your valuable support in our future events/fundraisers.

GO KNIGHTS!!!

Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports

A concussion is a brain injury caused by a bump or blow to the head that can change the way your brain normally works. Even what seems to be a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious.

To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the “Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports” initiative to offer information about concussions—a type of traumatic brain injury—to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports. The “Heads Up” initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion. Please see our Health Links section under Forms to access the concussion fliers or visit:
