COORIDNATOR/COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

WRESTLING – as per Keith Lyden

·         Varsity lost first 3 matches

·         Practicing with Freedom over the holidays.

·         Upcoming Salisbury Invitational Tournament

·         This Sun. home match at Freedom starting at 9:00.

·         FHS Wrestling Booster Club is selling $25.00 lottery tickets that cover the entire year.

·         A new child to the area’s parent commented on what a great wrestling program BTAA has.

·         Freedom has decided not to allow us to use their concession stand any more.

 

BASKETBALL – as per Bob Norder

·         All going well

·         Lost East Hills for practices Tues., Weds.  & Thurs. for the entire season.

·         Some lease issues w/janitors @ certain ele. schools.

·         Need space.

·         Setting up BTAA “Freedom Nation” at Freedom basketball games.  BTAA’s “Riot Squad” will sit on the opposite side of the Freedom students’ “Riot Squad.”

·         Inquired about posting photos of the kids playing sports on Facebook.  Would get photo releases.  Discussion followed and majority agreed that there are too many risks involved, so we will not be doing that.

 

SOCCER – as per Tony Raffino/Dan Davilla

·         Indoor soccer is going well.  Very challenging for kids

 

FOOTBALL – as per Chris Karabinus

·         Wrapped up

·         Will do inventory on helmets

 

 

CHEERLEADING – as per Carmen Barbosa

·         Wrapped up

·         11/17 Hanover competition:  125s came in first place, 110s, 95s and Flags came in 4th.

·         11/18 Parkland competition:  110s and 95s came in 3rd, 125s came in 5th and Flags 6th.

·         11/28 uniforms were collected.

·         12/1 and 12/8 Banquets.  Tumbler awards were loved by the girls.

 

CONCESSIONS  No report

 

SOFTBALL – as per Rich Sheffer

·         Off-season Pitching Clinic is full with all BT girls.

·         Working with Freedom’s Coach, Nora Borger.

·         Freedom Softball is holding a Breakfast with Santa at 191 Applebees on Sat., 8-10.

 

LACROSSE – as per Jon Nicholas

·         Bob Kinter was voted in VP for LV Lacrosse League.

·         12/20 – coaches’ meeting

·         12/1 and 12/8 were Banquets.

·         NCC looking to build additional dorms.  This will affect our practice fields there.

·         Will look into getting a grant for fields.

EXECUTIVE REPORT:

Vince Spina: School District is renewing BTAA’s (Class 1A) leases for fields at Miller Hts. and Farmersville Ele. Schools.  Our current 10 yr. lease is up.  Another 10 year lease would be good through 2022.

Mark Stein is the facilities manager and Kristin Spadafori is admin. Asst. to Mark Stein. 

Mark will present the lease renewal at meeting tonight “as is. “  If the lease is not accepted for renewal “as is,” the lease may have to go to a 1 yr. lease.

Cathy Shay – Nominations for Spring Sports Coordinators tonight.

 

Jill Volkert – Background checks are mostly all back with no records.  Still a few outstanding.

DISCUSSION ITEM:

 

?  Donna Stocker says the Freedom Cheerleaders actively student coach for Bulldogs football.  They are holding a fundraiser; Diva Designer Bingo on Sun. 10/14/12, 12:30 at Farmersville Ele., $25.00 tickets.     Authentic Designer Brand Prizes

?  Kim Hall inquired about new uniforms for the cheerleaders.  Says many, many uniforms are old, worn and frayed.  What can be done?  Is there a plan in place for replacing them?

?  Indoor practices start this week at the elementary schools and Freedom.  Thanks to Dan for his help with the leases.  

?  The dates we requested for our cheering competition were denied due to wrestling tournaments.  Will contact NCC and Lehigh to see cost and availability.

?  $1350.00 football referee fees were mainly covered by concessions’ profit money.

?  Sign ups start next week on Monday.

?  “Peak Performance” Program @ Freedom;  Monday & Wednesdays,  6pm - 7pm -  $70.00

?  Concerned with lack of numbers for sign ups, especially with no fliers being sent home from schools.

Vince Spina:  -Attended Planning Commission Meeting – Proposed to build Luxury Apts. on the corner of Falmer and Meyer Lane, across from Penske.

Jill Volkert –Fliers will no longer be done.  School District is discontinuing their distribution to the schools.  They will post the info. on the District’s website, though.  You can also sign up for emails on their website.  Said they would also post a link to BTAA’s website.

·         Just finished T shirt fundraiser and sent out cheesecake fundraiser.

·         Snack stand duties going well.

·         Thanks to Keith for designing this season’s Football Tees.

·         Wed. scrimmage vs. Salisbury.

·         60 of 75 helmets are in.

·         Galusha Memorial Game vs. Northampton set up.

·         Over 300 T shirts sold for fundraiser.

·         9/5  - Cheesecake fundraiser due.

·         9/8 or 9/9 is Picture Day @ the field.

·         8/16 Spirit wear orders due.

·         Waiting for the strobe light to be installed.

·         Must then set up fire inspection.

·         Use grills for now.

 

WRESTLING – as per Keith Lyden – Nothing going on.

 

BASKETBALL – as per Dan Vidal

·         Met with school district about the facilities.  Concerned with the leases.  Times not being used.

·         Saved 8 – 9 thousand dollars with the new BABL program last year.

·         Wants to eliminate Sat. practices and keep Saturdays for games only.

·         Still inquiring about lowering the rims for 3rd and 4th grade.

·         May shift games from Broughal gym to Northeast gym.

·         Considering shifting from more costly uniforms to T shirts and shorts for the younger players.

·         Will inquire if BABL is working on By-Laws.

·         ELV Fall Ball games have begun.

·         Can use Community service volunteers for projects.

·         Twp. has been “stepping up.”

·         Down 100 players.

·         8/6 Parent meeting at BTCC.

·         8/16 practice begins.

·         Still need 1 coach.

·         Mini Camp begins 7/16.

·         75 helmets ordered.  Will do fundraisers to offset this cost.

·         7/27 DICK’S day

·         9/23 Punt – Pass – Kick Competition, 10:30 at Meyers Lane. Ages 6-14, Boys & Girls.                Pre-Registration online.

·         8/18 & 8/25 Scrimmages

·         Sun. 9/2 - 10:30, first game @ No. Parkland 

·         4 home games this season

 

CHEERLEADING – as per Carmen Barbosa

·         91 cheerleaders (down from 106 last year)

·         Practice begins 8/6.  Mon. – Thurs. 6-8

·         Bows for competition ordered.

·         Will have to order sneakers from Palmer Schuylkill Valley Sports.  (Joe cannot order the small quantity we need.)

·         Met with Canes

·         Considering and looking into 8 foot rims for 3rd and 4th graders. Will discuss “mechanics” with maintenance.

·         Goal is to eliminate some of the gym time on weekends and keep them for games only.

·         10/20 teams to be chosen

·         11/12 schedule will be completed.

·         Working on lease agreements.

·         Sign ups 9/17, 19, 25, & 27,  6:30-8:30, BTCC

·         9 of 11 teams went to play offs.  Jets Minors team went to semi-finals.

·         All Stars July 6th weekend.

·         Thanks to Chris Karabinis for meeting to ensure a smooth transition to football at Meyers Lane.

·         ELV Fall Ball Registration upcoming.  Ages 8-14

·         35 players @ Camp the end of June.  BTAA netted about $400. from the camp.  Positive feedback.

·         Used Fancy Fotos for pictures without issue.  Coordination was great.

·         Waiting for reconditioned helmets to be returned.

·         U11A Boys went to play-offs.

·         Kudos to coaches for a job well done.

·         Thanks to Brian, Earl and Ray for lining the fields.

·         Next year looking at indoor space.

·         Where do we stand with our fields next year?  Will we have limited field time?

·         Not good volunteer turn out.  No one coordinating volunteers.  No consequences for “no shows.”

·         Take in about $200.00/night when open.

·         Spring program runs 8 weeks.

·         200 participants

·         Participants are up.

·         2/22 -  Parent meetings

·         3/11 – DICK’S night

·         Indoor space available at BTCC

 

WRESTLING as per Keith Lyden

·         Season over

·         Tournament:  16 kids came home with metals

·         Finished regular season 11th.

·         Finished tournament 13th.

 

BASKETBALL – as per Dave Capuano             

·         Girls Travel teams are in playoffs-Both 7th & 6th Grade team in Semifinals.

·         Boys Travel- 6th, 7th & 8th Grade wrapping up regular season this weekend at BTCC against Canes

·         4th & 5th Grade travel finish regular games in 2 weeks and then end of season tournament

·         Bethlehem Area Basketball League (BABL)-

·         2 weeks of regular season left. 1st weekend in March playoffs for top 2-3 teams and rest of teams play a friendly game

·         Trying to schedule a coaches meeting the last week of February to discuss playoff and get feedback on season from coaches.

·         Some overall logistical issues need to be ironed out for next year’s season but overall has gone well.

·         Little Dribblers program (Skills & Drills) with Canes for 1st & 2nd graders last weekend this Sat 8:30am – 10am at LHS Aux gym. Parents have given me good reviews.

·         Still working on finalizing replacement for coordinator for next year.

 

CONCESSIONS – No report

·         Still taking signups for Tee Ball and Srs.

·         Week 3 of off season pitching clinic

·         200 sign ups

·         Will survey past players to see why sign ups are a bit down.

·         Drafts:  2/21 and 2/25

·         Parent Meetings - 2/27 and 2/29  

·         3/24 – DICK’S Day

·         Networking with Freedom’s Booster Club

·         Having open communication with Twp.  Forming better co-operation.

 

FOOTBALL- as per Chris Karabinus

·         143 helmets need to be reconditioned.

·         6/18-22  Camp  9am.-12:00

·         7/16  Mini camp begins

 

CHEERLEADING –as per Carmen Barbosa/Renee Weber

·         First competition (for Wrestling) at Nazareth this weekend.  This is for our Championship.

·         Scheduled Kids CO-OP for extra practices.

·         3/25 Year end Banquet at Nancy Run

o    Used extra Trophies for girls.  Recycled by using new name plates.

·         Rob Kitner questioned procedure to get new uniforms.  Feels they are needed with the growth in Lacrosse program.

·         Cathy Shay asked if we would entertain sponsorships; banners or signs as opposed to names on shirts.

·         Brian asked if we are sticking with one photographer.  Discussed concerns with Fancy Photos who we now use.  We need to communicate our concerns to them.  We have a history with them as far as their support and their connections to the school district.

 

OTHER: 

·         Recognition and introduction of 2nd grade Cheerleaders, Pep Squad for Flags with coaches Angel Weed, Melissa Vasquez and Kim Jenkins.

o    2 First Place, 1 Second place

o    10 of 15 girls continued on to cheer for wrestling.

·         Scheduled 4 extra practice dates at Kids Co-Op.

 

WRESTLING – as per Keith Lyden

·         We are 5 and 1.

·         If we beat BECA next week, we could take 1st in our division.

·         We will now host Quads on 1/29 at BTCC, mid am.  We need help moving mats, setting up and breaking down.

·         1/28 – Freedom vs. Liberty is Bulldog Night.  Bulldogs will wrestle Little Canes prior to the match.

·         Moving along.  A few teams doing well, a few not so well.

·         Bethlehem Area Basketball League (BABL):

o   Finished 4th week of season.  Things running well considering this is a start up.

o   As far as the facilities, some fans not happy with seating arrangements @ FHS.

o   Site managers doing a great job.  A big thanks to all of them.

Jeremy Canes and I will look to have a wrap-up meeting with the coaches near the end of the season.   We will get feedback on the BABL to identify areas of improvement.  Also, we will analyze the gym costs and see how they compared to our projections we submitted to the BASD in the summer.

o   Little Dribblers’ (Skills & Drills) program with Canes for 1st and 2nd graders going well. Gotten good feedback.  Spud Yasso is doing a good job and the kids are having fun.

o   We utilized extra gym time at NCC over the last few weeks.  Went well.  Great way to continue building relationships.

o   Picture day is Saturday 1/21/12.  Michele Turpening is scheduling the teams.

·         There is a possible candidate for the co-ordinators position.

SOFTBALL – as per Rich Sheffer

·         Sign- ups begin next week.

·         Will be representing BTAA on the ELV Board.

·         Open lines of communication with Denny Hollinger, Freedom Softball coach.

·         Off season pitching program looks promising.  Thanks to Dave for freeing up some gym time.

 

LACROSSE –as per Jon Nicholas

·         1/16 – first meeting.

·         4/28 – 2nd Annual LAX “Play Day.”  In communication with Tammy Healy.

·         NCC fields are firmed up.

·         Will be in contact with girls’ League.

 

OTHER

·         Recognition and introduction of Ray Russin’s 95 lb. football Champions. 

         Went 11-0.  440 points scored.  39 points allowed.  2nd year they went undefeated.

         Play-offs:  40-0/ 30-0/ 22-6.  Congrats. to these awesome athletes. 

·         By-law Committee forming.  Sign up now.

·         2nd nominations and voting for Fall Sports Coordinators.

·         Just finished T shirt fundraiser and sent out cheesecake fundraiser.

·         Snack stand duties going well.

·         Student coaches doing well.

 

 

FOOTBALL – as per Chris Karabinus

·         Thanks to Keith for designing this season’s Football Tees.

·         Wed. scrimmage vs. Salisbury.

·         60 of 75 helmets are in.

·         Galusha Memorial Game vs. Northampton set up.

·         Over 300 T shirts sold for fundraiser.

·         9/5  - Cheesecake fundraiser due.

·         9/8 or 9/9 is Picture Day @ the field.

·         8/16 Spirit wear orders due.

·         Waiting for the strobe light to be installed.

·         Must then set up fire inspection.

·         Use grills for now.

 

WRESTLING – as per Keith Lyden – Nothing going on.

 

BASKETBALL – as per Dan Vidal

·         Met with school district about the facilities.  Concerned with the leases.  Times not being used.

·         Saved 8 – 9 thousand dollars with the new BABL program last year.

·         Wants to eliminate Sat. practices and keep Saturdays for games only.

·         Still inquiring about lowering the rims for 3rd and 4th grade.

·         May shift games from Broughal gym to Northeast gym.

·         Considering shifting from more costly uniforms to T shirts and shorts for the younger players.

·         Will inquire if BABL is working on By-Laws.

·         Can use Community service volunteers for projects.
