Dear Parents:
I would like to take this time to welcome you and your child(ren) to the sport of wrestling. The objective of the BS JR Wrestling program is to foster good sportsmanship and to provide an activity in which kids can have fun, learn, and gain experience towards the middle school and varsity program. I do not emphasize winning and losing, but emphasis is put on the experience and learning. Have patience with your little wrestler(s), and they will progress.
We will try to have at least one match per week for every wrestler. Matches will be arranged according to weight and age. Occasionally, this is not possible and your child may have to wrestle someone at the next weight. We will use common sense in scheduling these matches and will not schedule matches that are not unreasonable.
Currently, we have all of our coaching positions filled. If a position opens, and you believe you are qualified, please see me. Otherwise, please help by working the concession stand for home meets, helping to prepare and shut down home meets, working the scorers table, or just by being a positive fan.
When the season concludes, we will have our annual banquet. At this time we will recognize each wrestler that completes the season, as well as give out awards. Be watching for the information to come home with your wrestler.
Hopefully, this guide helps answer any questions that you have. Please take the time to look it over, and feel free to ask any remaining questions that you have. With the help and cooperation of the parents, I am looking foward to a great season of wrestling.
Sincerely,
Lucas Andrews - Head Coach
Dave Mundey - President

Points of Interest:
1.) There will be two practices a week. They will be on Tuesday, and Thursday. The times will be from 6:20 to 7:20 for wrestlers with 0-1 year of experience, and from 7:25 to 8:45 for wrestlers with 2 or more years of experience. Wrestlers will need to attend these practices to be eligible for the weekend matches.
2.) Due to issues with skin infections, parents will not be allowed into the wrestling room. The room and mats will be cleaned frequently in order to reduce the spread of these types of infections. In addition, the room is not big enough for everybody.
3.) Minor disciplinary problems during the practice or matches will be handled by the coaches. Calisthenics may be used as punishment. We have much to cover in a short amount of time. Children who disrupt practice repeatedly will be dismissed from practice for that day. The same goes for bad behavior during the matches.
4.) The wrestling program covers a large portion of its operation expenses throughout the year by offering concessions at home matches. This activity is "PARENT POWER" in action. The parents are also asked to donate rolls or other items. All parents are required tow ork. The schedule will be handed out at a later date. Please be there.
5.) If you know your child will not be attending a weekend match, you must let one of the coaches know by the Thursday before the match. Otherwise, it will be assumed that the child will be wrestling in the upcoming match. "No shows" to matches will not be tolerated as the bout sheets are made up a couple days prior to the match and lead to confusion on the day of the match.
6.) Arrival time for all wrestlers is one hour prior to the start of the match. This hour is to allow each wrestler to be adequately prepared and warmed up for the match. If a wrestler arrives late, he/she may not be allowed towrestler if the scratch meeting is over or in process.
7.) Please be courteous to coaches, officials, and other spectators and stay off the mat during the matches. Failure to comply can result in removal from premises, and dismissal from the team.
8.) Middle-school wrestlers planning to attend a Mason-Dixon league wrestling match must contact the head coach by the Thursday before the meet. If not, there will not be a match for the wrestler.
Equipment:
1.) No uniform will be worn to practice sessions unless the wrestler owns them.
2.) Uniforms must be turned in at the end of the season. Wrestlers will not receive awards until this obligation has been fulfilled.
3.) Wrestlers must wear something to protect their uniforms when not wrestling. (Such as shorts)
4.) Mats - whatever shoes you wrestle with on the mats are not to be worn as street shoes. Carry an extra pair of shoes with you.
Insurance:
1.) Health insurance is a must. BSJW has limited funding to cover insurance protection of the wrestlers. BSJW does carry a secondary insurance. Parents must retain responsibility for their child's will being, including adequate insurance protection. Parents must sign their child's registration form before participation will be permitted.
2.) Each wrestler is responsible for his personal belongings and property issued to him by BSJW at both practices and matches. However, if something is lost, stolen or forgotten, please report it to a coach IMMEDIATELY.
