Troop 179 Cell Phone Policy

TROOP 179 CELL PHONE POLICY

The following sets forth the policies of Troop 179 regarding the possession and use of cell phones by youth members:

1. Troop Meetings - A Scout may bring a cell phone to Troop meetings or other Troop day functions, such as clean-ups, parades, etc., for the purpose of contacting a family member when the meeting or function has concluded and he needs to be picked up. However, the phone MUST be turned off during the meeting or function. Failure to follow this rule will result in the phone being confiscated and the Scout being barred from the next scheduled event.

2. Camping Trips #1 - NO Scout is permitted to bring a cell phone when the Troop is camping in either Suffolk or Nassau County. Adult leaders will have cell phones in case of medical emergencies, or if a parent needs to contact the Scout. Failure to follow this rule will result in the phone being confiscated and the Scout being barred from the next scheduled camping trip.

3. Camping Trip #2 - When the Troop leaves Long Island a Scout is permitted to bring a phone for emergency purposes only. The phone is to remain turned off untils and only if, he becomes separated from-the Adult Leadership. Failure to follow this rule will result in the phone being confiscated and the Scout being barred from the next scheduled camping trip.

4. Summer Camp - NO Scout is permitted to bring a phone to Summer Camp, regardless of where that camp is located! No exceptions. Failure to follow this rule will result in the phone being confiscated and the Scout being asked to LEAVE carnp. No refunds will be granted.

5. Repeated failures (3 or more) to abide by these policies will result in the Scout loosing any current leadership position he holds.

The Adult Leadership of Troop 179 appreciates the help of all parents in helping to enforce these policies.
