Warriors FAQ's
How old does my child need to be to play Warriors Football?
Players need to be 5 years of age on or before July 1, 2012. Our 5 and 6 year old players will play Flag football. The age "break date" is July 1st. (i.e. If your child turns 9 yrs old July 1st, he is still considered an 8 yr old).
What is the Age/Weight Breakdown for the different teams?
The age/ weight breakdown for tackle football is:
80lb Football: 7-8 yrs old (or 9 yrs old less than 60lbs). Player cannot turn 10 until after November 31st, 2012.
100lb Football: 9-10 yrs old (or 11 yrs old less than 80lbs). Player cannot turn 12 until after November 31st, 2012.
120lb Football: 11-12 yrs old (or 13 yrs old less than 105lbs). Player cannot turn 14 until after November 31st, 2012.
150lb Football: 13-14 yrs old (or 15 yrs old less than 135lbs). Player cannot turn 16 until after November 31st, 2012.
***Any player who is heavier than the specified weight can "play up" (i.e., a 100 lb 8 yr old can play on the 100lb/ 9-10 yr old team)
Players are given a pound a week (each game) allowance during the 8 game season and a 2lb allowance for any games played after 12PM.
When are practices held?
Practices begin the first Monday in August. Each head coach will determine a practice schedule for his or her team. Practices are held at the Concord High School Athletic Fields. League rules allow allow for 5 days (10 hours) of practice during preseason, and 3 days (6 hours) during school. We understand that our Warrior families plan vacations and other family functions in August. Our players will not be penalized for missing some practices during this time. We do ask that you coordinate these absences in advance with the Head Coach as a courtesy.
When are the games?
Our home games are generally played on Sunday. Away games are either Saturday or Sunday and are dependant on the opponents home schedules. Plenty of time will be given by the coaching staff to prepare for game schedules.
Where are the games held?
Brandywine Warrior Football is a travel football program. Home games are played at Concord High School Stadium or Upper Practice Fields. Away games are played at the home fields of the other Bert Bell Memorial Football Conference member teams.
Do players have to "try out" and are there "cuts"?
Warrior players do not have to "try out" and there are no "cuts." We have had "Varsity" and "Junior Varsity" teams when team sizes get large (40+) in prior years in order to insure all players can participate. When we do split teams, players are assigned by the coaching staff to a team based on skill level, appropriate age, and parental consultation.
How much does it cost to play?
$110 per child for contact football.
$85 per child for cheerleading.
$60 per child for flag football/cheerleading.
The registration fee covers the use of Warrior football equipment and all associated game fees.
What equipment to I have to buy?
Your registration fee covers use of a Helmet, Shoulder Pads, Game Jersey, Game/Practice pants, all necessary pads, girdle and a mouthguard. You will need to buy a practice jersey (optional), cleats, athletic supporter and a cup.
A refundable deposit of $300 (contact): post dated check will be required at equipment handout. Deposit checks will not be cashed. The check will simply be handed back once the equipment is returned at the end of the season.
Is football safe for my child?
Your child's safety is of paramount concern to us. We strive to make our football environment as safe as possible by supplying the players with the best equipment and the coaches with the best training possible. We require that all players receive a Physicians/Doctors approval in order to participate in Brandywine Football. The Doctor’s note minimizes the risk of any existing medical preconditions or injuries. We want the players and parents to enjoy this great game without fear of injury. We have developed solid organizational standards in place to prevent unnecessary and avoidable risks associated with contact football since our inception.
What is expected of me as a parent?
The Warriors are a volunteer organization. Every Coach, Board Member, Player and Parent of our club is required to participate in a volunteer capacity at some level. The minimum mandatory parent requirements are snack bar duty and helping to cheer on your child's team.
