Bragg Baseball End of the season Party
Players and parents it is now time for us to get together ...
Rockets close out the 2004 season
Bragg lost to Clay Chalkville in the 2nd round but it has been a real good season this year and we all should be proud of the Rockets.
They set a new Bragg record for wins this year (31).
Crush of the Game goes to Josh Headley who got the Rockets
first HR of the season. I added a few pictures under albums and
more will be added soon.
Rockets Vs Patriots
The Bragg Rockets defeated the Homewood Patriots 6 - 5 at Homewood High School in the first round of the 2004 Jefferson County Tournament. The Rockets fell behind early but some clutch hitting late in the game got the Rockets out front then the defense shut the door for a big win. Pitching : Shayne Godfrey got the start,Josh Headley came in to keep it close then Travis Key came in to close it out.
ESPN play of the game has to go to Adam Erwin for stepping up and shutting the Patriots down in the 6th getting all three outs from right field. I added some pictures under albums and more will be added soon.
Rockets Vs Indians
Bragg closed out the regular season with a victory over Rudd 8 - 6
The Rockets were lead by Cameron Brewer who batted 1.000
Rob Mitchell and Jarred Higginbotham both batted .667
and Josh Headley and Bobby Williams batted .500
Pitching: David Roberts started and Cameron Brewer came
in to get the win. ESPN play of the game : some great
base running by the Rockets to get a run home with
a delayed steal to 2nd drawing the throw and allowing the
runner at 3rd to steal home when we already had two outs.
Baseball Quote
"One of the beautiful things about baseball is that every once in a while you come into a situation where you want to, and where you have to, reach down and prove something."
-Nolan Ryan, pitcher

Key, Godfrey and Graveman were the pitchers.
Game 2 : Sloppy defense early got the Rockets in a hole but the bats came alive in the 4th to get us back in the game and then some clutch hitting in the bottom of the 5th put the Rockets out front for an exciting 8 - 7 victory.
Holcombe, Mitchell and Graveman were the pitchers.
Rockets get the rare 'Quadruple Dippa'
The Rockets traveled to Roosevelt Park Saturday morning and defeated Davis 7 - 1 in the first game.
The bats came alive in the second game as the Rockets defeated Davis 17 - 1.
The team then loaded up and headed to McAdory and took two games from the Yellowjackets to close out a great day for the Rockets.
Quotes by Yogi Berra
Rockets take 2nd place in the Spring Break Tournament
It was the best of baseball and the worst of baseball at times but the Rockets did bring home the 2nd place trophy in the end so it was
a good tournament. Rocket MVP for the championship game goes to Josh Headley. Pictures have been added under Rocket Albums.

OFFENSIVE TIP OF THE WEEK
A short stroke, which is quicker, allows you to use gravity to your advantage. In a short stroke, you are swinging down on the ball and using the weight of the bat to your advantage rather than trying to lift the weight of the bat into the plane of the pitch.

DEFENSIVE TIP OF THE WEEK
When you are playing a team for the first time and don't know where their players hit the ball, keep an eye on the base coaches on the other team. When a pull hitter comes up, the coach will usually back away from the coaching box or baseline...he doesn't want to get hit with a batted ball.
The 9 Rules of Pitching Success:
1.Hitters with a LONG SWING or STIFF FRONT ARM should be thrown fastballs on the inside half of the plate.
2.Hitters that HOLD THE BAT STRAIGHT UP AND HIGH normally have trouble hitting the high fastball. Most likely this hitter likes the ball low and is cabable of hitting the low pitch very hard!
3.Hitter has a CLOSED STANCE or STEPS HARD INTO THE PLATE. This batter should be pitched in on the hands so throw the solid fastball on the inner half of the plate.
4.The hitter LUNGES AT THE BALL and does not keep the weight back! This type hitter has a hard time making consisitent contact when you effectively mix fastballs in and off speed pitches away!
5.Hitters that TAKES A LONG STRIDE are almost always good low ball hitters. This hitter is normally overly agressive and has trouble hitting when the pitcher changes speeds and has good high heat!
6.Anytime you find yourself in a hit and run situation make sure to throw hard fastballs on the inside half of the plate to prevent the hitter from punchig or driving the ball to the opposite field.
7.Throwing a two-strike change-up is asking for trouble. The best counts for changeups are 1:0, 2:0, 2:1, and 3:1.
8.Use the SHAKE-OFF SIGN to break the rthymn of a batter. Make the batter think you have more pitches than you have and that you have confidence in throwing every one of them!
9.THROW YOUR 0:2 PITCH WITH A PURPOSE. The perfect 0:2 pitch makes the batter chase a bad pitch and get himself out! However, the 0:2 pitch must also be used to get a batter off the plate so that you own the outer half or to set-up your perfect 1:2 pitch for the OUT!
