Project GRAD
What is Project GRAD (Graduation Really Achieves Dreams)?
Project GRAD is a combined effort involving teachers, administrators, parents, students community leaders and businesses to improve inner-city education. Project GRAD gives teachers training in ways to teach reading, math and strategies for classroom discipline. The curriculum is implemented in the elementary schools and middle schools that send students to each high school. Counselors and college scholarships complete the program.
Project GRAD's Components
Consistency Management - teaches children self-discipline and responsibility. Each child is given a role in managing their classroom, reducing classroom discipline problems.
Success for All - a reading program that emphasizes good reading skills, learned in kindergarden and first grade, and carried forward thorughout the student's education.
MOVE IT Math - a program that helps students discover and learn math with hands-on experiences rather that memorizing facts.
Communities in Schools - a social service professional is in each school to help students with problems and prevent them from dropping out of school.
Scholarships - corporate and individually sponsored scholarships give graduating students the help they need to afford college.
