Heat ends season on HOT note; sweats out the points in VA.; 6/7

Coming off a disappointing and very frustrating weekend of play 7 days ago, a skeleton crew of Bays, without 5 starters, made the trip to Manassas on Saturday to satisfy the  inflexible WAGS dictators for the season finale; which should have been played weeks ago. With only 1 sub and the heat index easily over 100, the squad rallied upon each other and gutted out a tough win against NVSC Freedom, 2 nil.

Many players were out of position, none complained, and all left everything on the field. The water rags were dry by half time, and there was barely a sip of gatorade to be found available by the final 1 minute water break in the second half; still none complained, as the side refused to go down when they surely could have quit after the previous week's frustration.

Instead, the team showed great poise, and despite being out-manned actually wore down the hosts with a solid possession game that eventually led to 2 tallies in the second half. Except for a brief 4 minute assault by the Freedom, which came up empty despite multiple chances (save of the season in the Bays' net one reason), Baltimore had the better of play throughout and refused to bend in the intense sun.

Every player showed up big in this one, and it allowed the side to finish a season which fell well below expectations on a very positive note. With a respectable 4th place finish in the league the team will now transition to next year, with try outs this week and next in Baltimore. No question that the outlook is positive, and the side looks forward to re-tooling for better results next year. The Bays with to congratulate and thank all of our competition this year for helping to make it one of growth for the team, and lots of fun for all the players. Results aside, the athletes are all better soccer players from a year ago.....and that's really why they are all here. We hope everyone enjoys their summer!!
