Bays' patience pays off with win over Extreme; 5/18

The Bays arrived at Western Regional Park on Sunday with a full roster and too much rest, compliments of last week's rain outs and WAGS leaving them idle on Saturday despite requesting a reschedule of same (by both teams), hoping to beat the rain again and get a match in. Mother Nature finally cooperated, and after taking 35 minutes to find their rhythm the team responded with an important win.

The very fast turf surface added a variable in getting the rust off against a well coached Thunder Extreme side, who was very familiar with some of the Heat opponents in white. The first half found Baltimore thinking properly, but failing to execute proper touches on the turf, and thus showed fairly well but could not sustain an attack on Thunder's D. With about 10 minutes left in the first some continuity was displayed, and although scoreless, the team had momentum heading into the second.

Although an unlucky header in the Bays box created an assist for the Thunder early, Baltimore never lost a step, pressured the Extreme in its own half, and maintained much better possession. The resiliance paid off, as the Bays found the back of the net twice, and created more opportunities as well, to take the points. The team again demonstrated great composure, refusing to get frustrated and staying in its game until the results were gained. It was a well deserved win and put the side in strong position within the league, having 4 games still to be played after Memorial Day.

This weekend will find the side at the Columbia Invitational over the holiday, where it will face stiff competition from teams out of New York and Md. Hopefully the trend will continue.
