Bays bounced out of State Cup by Mustangs; 4/19

The positive momentum secured by recent play for the Bays Heat came to a halt this Saturday in the quarter final round of the State Cup, as the side picked the wrong day to show far less than their best against a determined MSC Mustang team.

Uncharacteristic poor touches all day only complicated a generally lack luster attitude, which prevented any rhythm with the ball in a game which saw few chances by either side. The Bays were beat to the ball too many times, but for the most part did well to prevent MSC from showing as the better side, as the game appeared destined for overtime late in the second half.....neither team being able to possess the ball for any length of time. Unfortunately, the long ball play of the Mustangs payed off after winning the ball back, as the linesman completely missed an obvious offside call, which the Mustang forward converted. Baltimore continued to fight, but never found the consecutive touches, and gave up another goal after failing to clear from 8 yards out very late in the match.

Despite not being close to their best the side was never out of the match till the final few minutes, but it is fair to say that MSC wanted this one more, and did all the dirty work to get it done when it mattered. While clearly a frustrasting end to the State Cup, the season is far from over for Baltimore. A rematch with MSC in WAGS awaits next weekend, and the remainder of the schedule will test the team with 2 game weekends through May. Still plenty of time to find success.

Baltimore congratulates the Mustangs on the victory and wishes them well to repeat as finalists this year.
