Bound Brook Wrestling: BB Wrestling Trivia
Here is some interesting notes about BB Wrestling....BROTHER vs. BROTHER: In 1978 Bob Trombadore of the United States Naval
Academy and Dave Trombadore of Princeton University had to wrestle each
other in a dual meet. Both were District Champions for Bound Brook in 1975.
RECRUITING HOTBED: In 1978 Bound Brook had six wrestlers on Division I
wrestling teams. In 2001-02 nine wrestlers competed for NCAA wrestling
teams.
SUPER DUO: Teammates Pat Gleason and Pete Schuyler lost only one dual
meet match in seven years of varsity wrestling.
SUPER TRIO: Mario Gentile, Joe Zelasny and Louis Tullo won four state
titles and appeared in the state finals six times.
SUPER QUAD: The 98-99 team had 4 sets of brothers wrestling varsity, two
sets were twins. All of these brothers placed in the District and had a
combined record of 181-57.
FAMILY AFFAIR: From the period of 1972 to 1985 four families dominated Bound Brook¹s mats. The Eustaces, Gleasons, MacMaths and
Trombadores contributed 16 wrestlers to Bound Brook. and over 500 wins.
TOP TEAMS: The 1960, 1961 & 1999 Bound Brook Wrestling Teams each had
seven District Champions. 12 Wrestlers in 1999 qualified for Region V.
RECORD BREAKERS: The 1998-99 Team smashed the scoring records in every
tournament entered. They hold the points record for the Ridgefield
Tournament, Somerset County Tournament and District 18, and won the Zephyr
Duals in Allentown, PA.
EVERYONE'S ALL-AMERICAN: Mike Sandusky after winning a State Championship at Bound Brook attended the University of Maryland. There he not only competed in three sports (football, wrestling, track and field), he was an All-American in all three!
MR. HALL OF FAME: Bob Mizerek who placed 2nd in the States for BB in the 1957 State Tournament has been enshrined in the Montclair State College Hall of Fame as a wrestler and Rutgers University of Newark Hall of Fame as a wrestling and tennis coach.
He is the winningest coach in the history of Rutgers Univesity in all sports!
