Bound Brook Wrestling: Welcome

Toronto
TORONTO FROM THE CN TOWER

CAMP PLACES THRID AT CANADA CUP

Okay, before you become disappointed that Camp lost a match take stock in what he accomplished Yesterday: Andrew competed in the open division of the Canada Cup finishing with a 5-1 record and placing third. His Bound Brook teammates, who are all New Jersey State place winners finished with a combined 0-8 record.

Andrew started the day with a relatively easy fall against Matthew Yotka of the New England Wrestling Club. He then faced the eventual Champion and Nationally ranked Russian wrestler Tamerlan Tagziev. Andrew didn't get to wrestle too long in this match as he tried some risky defense to a leg lace and ended up giving up a touch fall. He then rebounded by winning three straight matches, including a decision over the 5th ranked wrestler in Canada at his weight Alex Burk. This put him in the third place match against Hofstra assistant wrestling coach and NCAA Division III National Champion Terry Madden. Camp was a litte too big and powerful for Madden and won a two period decision 6-0 and 5-1 which gave him a third place finish in his first senior level tournament. Great job Camp and you've certainly reached another milestone!

The remaining Bound Brook wresters did not show much over the course of the day and all went 0-2. Of the losers, Nick Murray was most notable as he got to wrestle the Canadian National Champion and Olympian Haislan Garcia in his first match. Nick ended up losing but had closed the match to 5-4 at one point with a two point roll through and two point gut wrench. However, in the end Garcia's wrist control and fast shots were too much for Nick and Garcia cruised to the tech fall win. Nick was then defeated by the fifth place finisher and experienced International wrestler Roger Alves.

Also at 66 KG, was Nestor Taffur and he lost a tough decision in his first match to Ali Emkani of Team Impact who eventually finished fourth and then lost to James Mancini who was a runner-up in the Canadian Nationals at 60 KG.

Jesse Harrington wrestled at 74 KG and also went 0-2, despite scoring loads of takedowns. Unfortunately, Jesse didn't have a good grasp of the rules and zero par terre skills and lost to eventual runner-up Sheldon Francis and Teddy Banks of the New England Wrestling Club. In the Banks match Jesse scored loads of takedowns, but just had no game in the top bottom portion of the match. Francis is ranked 5th in Canada at his weight and lost to NCAA Champion and Canadian Olympian Matt Gentry in the Finals.

Andrew Flanagan did not make 74 KG and appeared on the mat twice at 84 KG and lost to the aforementioned Burk and Madden.

CRUSADERS FINISH FOURTH AT AGGIE DUALS

I wrote a really nice story about how the Crusaders placed fourth at the Aggie Duals this past weekend, with many tidbits about our wrestlers, including many humorous stories. Unfortunately, the computer at the story and I don't have time now to rewrite my tome. So I will just hit some key points:

1. We beat Warren Hills, Elite Wrestling Club of PA and New Hope-Solebury.

2. We lost to Del Val and Timbercreek. The Del Val match was ugly, but Luis Mendes shows promise.

3. Henry "Hank" Shapiro was by far the most entertaining wrestler of the day due to his lackadaisical decision making process.

4. Ricky was the most entertaining on the mat, as usual for his high flying antics.

5. Camp and Nestor are pretty good wrestlers.

6. Rob Murray and Frank Gianotti saved our hids in one point win agianst Elite.

7. Kenny left his singlet on top of Kyle's car and it blew off completely encasing a motorcyclist and suffocating him to death in body odor. (The motorcycle part is a joke).

8. Dominick Vatalare wrestled much better than he did during the season.

9. We placed second in our division, fourth in the tournament.

10. I had cheesesteak that wasn't very good in Doylestown and Coach Doerr burned his mouth on his steak.

Here are the individual records on the day:

103: Robert Xaiver Murray 1-4
112: Daniel Courtland Tineo 0-4
119: George Washington Carver Wohar 0-5
125: Gary Andres Sensasoupha 1-4
130: Paulie Kirchner (Courtesy of Somerville) 4-1
137: No Wrestler.
140: Richard Allsworth Ash 4-1
145: Dominick Giuseppe Vatalare 0-5
152: Henry Richardson Shapiro 4-1
160: Nestor Jens Taffur 5-0
171: Benjamin Carlton Bentavegna 2-1
       Ghibran Zapata 1-2
       Luis Stephans Mendes 0-1
189: Franklin Hays Giannotti 4-1
215: Andrew Arthur Allsworth Campolattano 4-0
285: Kenneth Arnold Louis Taffur 4-1

BOUND BROOK WRESTLERS PAST AND PRESENT TO COMPETE IN CANADA CUP

A who's who of Bound Brook wrestlers are set to represent the New York Athletic Club at the open division of the Canada Cup to held July 4th in Guelph, Canada. These lucky wrestlers have been allowed to train at the NYAC this past Spring and early Summer and are honored to compete for America's most distinguished athletic organization. Among the Bound Brook wrestlers competing are:

NICK MURRAY- Will wrestle at 145.2 for the NYAC in Canada. As you may recall he placed 2nd and 3rd for Bound Brook in the New Jersey State Tournament. He is now Dean's List student in the Virginia Tech School of Engineering, Nick is a mid year junior at tech, but will be a red-shirt sophomore for the wrestling team next season where he expects to compete at 149 for the Hokies next season where he is expected to be a Academic All-American!

NESTOR TAFFUR- Will also compete at 145.2 in Canada. Nestor just graduated from Bound Brook High School and was in the top ten of his class academically and placed 4th in the New Jersey State Tournament this past March. He has accepted a full scholarship from Boston Univesity and expected to wrestle 149 for the Terriers next season.

JESSE HARRINGTON- A former Bound Brook State runner-up he will compete at 167.2 in Canada. He just completed his sophomore season at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He took a medical year this past season and will be return for his second season for the Aggies this Fall. As a freshman he was ranked as high as fourth in the country in Division III. He should compete at 157 next year for the Aggies.

ANDREW FLANAGAN- This one time winningest wrestler in New Jersey, 2x State Champion and 4x State placewinner will compete in Canada at 167.2. As you may know he will return to Harvard next season for his senior year and to compete for the Crimson at 165 where he hopes to stay healthy and go out in grand style. If anyone has the talent and brains to do it, he does.

ANDREW CAMPOLATTANO- The undefeated 2x State Champion will compete at 189.5 in Canada. He will not be taking the easy road in Guelph as he will compete in the Senior Men's Division as he begins to compete in the older age divisions to prepare for college. He's ready for the bumps along the road, but you've got to get on the road if you want to have an Olympic dream and the NYAC is allowing him to do that.

Murray, Rob Murray Wins Old Tappan Tournament

Rob Murray is on the clock, tick, tick tick... In other words, Rob graduates from eighth grade this week and his high school wrestling career has officially started, and started successfully on Saturday as he won the 103 weight class in the high school division of the Old Tappan Tournament.

In his first match Rob used a few key tilts in the second period to defeat his opponent from Old Tappan by a 5-2 score. In the Semis he defended his opponent's funk attempts and ended the match with a pin in the second period which put him in the Finals.

In the Finals Rob faced a 103 who placed 4th in the Districts this year and gave up a quick first period takedown. But he escaped and trailed by a 2-1 score at the end of the first. In the second period Rob rode out his opponent getting quite a few one counts on his tilt attempts. Then in the final stanza Rob reversed his opponent with a key hip heist and then rode him out for the last minute for the 3-2 win.

A great job in all by Rob as he has worked hard this Spring and the results have now started to show!

 Seniors Announce Their College Choices

Bound Brook wrestling's class of 2009 have all announced their college choices, and as usual they have done themselves proud! Here are this year's seniors and their matriculation plans:

OLEEM O'GARRO- Has been award a New Jersey STARS scholarship which means he will start at Raritan Valley College, and once he obtains his associates degree he is entitled to five tuition-free semesters  at Rutgers University to obtain his bachelor's degree. Congratulations Oleem!

HENRY SHAPIRO- Henry was admitted to Rutgers and SUNY-Binghamton and has chosen to matriculate at Binghamton. Come this time next year Henry will be well versed in what a spedie is and how delicious they are, of course he's already been exposed to spedies by wrestling at the 1000 Island Duals.

BEN BENTIVIGNA- Ben is going to continue his college education a Middlesex County College where he may wrestle. All as I can say is that if I was able to double my career win total in one year, I would give myself another year to see if I could keep improving like that.

GABE GLEASON- Has been admitted to NYU and will attend their next year. From what I understand the clincher for Gabe was that he could wrestle for a team whose nickname is the the Violets. That's one mean mascot! But seriously, Gabe was directly admitted to the program he wishes to major in and decided to forgo other scholarships to pursue his first choice of schools.

NESTOR TAFFUR- Has accepted a full scholarship to Boston University. He hopes to pursue a pre-medical based major in Boston and will join Andrew Flanagan as one of two Bound Brook Division I wrestlers in the City of Boston. Nestor is the fourth Crusader in the last five years to accept a Division I wrestling scholarship and the first year value of his package is over $52,000.00, once again proving that student who concentrates on academics and athletics can be justly rewarded. He shows that it pays to forget that part-time job and make your high school academics, and other endeavors whether they be music, engineering or other school activities your full-time job.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR SENIORS, YOU STUCK IT OUT AND NOW COME THE SPOILS!

CAMP THE TWO TIME CHAMP

TAFFUR PLACES FOURTH

It wasn't easy, but Andrew Campolattano still sports a perfect high school wrestling career as he won his second State Championship on Sunday in Atlantic City. However, he was not the only Crusader to place at the 2009 State Championships, as Nestor Taffur placed 4th to cap a great wrestling career at Bound Brook. Gabe Gleason also finished his career at the State tournament with a loss on Friday night.

Andrew showed the State what he had early and often in the tournament when he defeated Watchung Hill's Evan Dill by fall on Friday night. Then on Saturday morning he faced St. Augustine's Leon White who is a very good athlete. However, Camp's top game was far too good as he tech falled White 15-0 in the second period.

That when set up a huge semi-final as Andrew was to face the wrestler he defeated in last year's State finals was waiting... Jonathan Becker from Bergen Catholic. To say Becker is tough is understatement and Andrew knew Becker would bring a great hand fight to the game. But Andrew found a nice double leg in the first period and was able to do a good job riding Jon for the next two periods. Unfortunately, in the third period Becker had to default to Andrew which gave Camp his second trip to the State final.

After a nap up to the 152 match, Andrew arose for his final against 2007 State Champion Mac Mancuso. Andrew said his legs were a little fatigued going into the match but that didn't stop him from carrying the offense on his feet. Approximately one minute into the first period Andrew got a nice inside single on Mancuso and finished it with a sharp foot sweep. But as they went to the mat Andrew immediately threw his hips under Mancuso for a tilt attempt, however, Mancuso showed his mettle as he hip heisted through the tilt a put Andrew on his back for a two count. Andrew was undautnted though as he quickly reversed Mancuso and rode him out for the rest of period.

Mancuso chose bottom for the second period and reversed Andrew and put the ride on him, but Andrew was able to gain a neutral and go into the third period trailing for the first time in his career at the end of a period by a 6-5 score.

In the third period Andrew chose bottom and escaped with about a minute left, he then immediately went on the offensive and took Mancuso down to take a 8-6 lead. Then he let Mancuso up again and took him down again to finish the match with a 10-7 lead and a second State Title. He finished the year with a staggering 46-0 record and improved his career record to 89-0. For his efforts of beating a State runner-up Champion he was given the honor of being the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. The last wrestler to win that award for Bound Brook was Joe Zelasney in the 1960 State Tournament.

TAFFUR FINISHES FOURTH IN THE STATE

Nestor Taffur had a losing record his freshman year in high school.... how things change as on Sunday he placed fourth in the New Jersey State Wrestling tournament, the sixty-eighth Bound Brook State wrestling place winner.

Nest's tournament started on Friday with a tough Ethan Orr from High Point, but Nest was up to the challenge as he used his tough top game to decision Orr 9-3. Then  on Saturday morning Nest had his Twilight Zone moment as he led Woodstown's CJ Cobb with four seconds left by 4-2 score. Instead of fleeing on the whistle, Nest stood still and was taken down with no time left. In overtime he failed to finish the winning shot physically and Cobb funked him for the two and the 6-4 win.

That match was enough to break anyone's spirit, but Nest showed real heart as he came back with a couple of great wins including starting with a 14-3 major decision over Frank Crocco of Passaic Valley, a fall in 3:24 over Cody Spatz of Burlington Township and a 11-3 major decision against his nemisis Colin Hewitt of Franklin. Those wins put Nestor in the third place match against Jon Robertson of Long Branch, but Nest couldn't find his take-down offense or top game and lost off a bad shot in overtime by a 3-1 score.

However, for a kid who finished his freshman year with a 15-19 record you cannot be upset as he really grew this past year and proved his mettle with a 45-3 record and a career record of 130-35, which makes him the third winningest wrestler in the history of Bound Brook.

Great Job Nest, your character was on display this weekend numerous times and you showed yourself to be a fighter and class act. It's been a honor to coach you and best of luck in the future wherever you choose to go to school.

GLEASON FINISHES CAREER WITH LOSS AT STATES

Years ago Rod Stewart had a song which was titled "Some Guys Have all the Luck", that song was not written with Gabe Gleason who was eliminated from the State Tournament on Friday by losing 6-0 to Tyler Forbeck of High Point. While Gabe came into the season expecting better, the kid just couldn't buy a break.... Wait, actually he did as right before the start of the season he broke his hip and then during the season had two bouts with sickness which severly affect his ability to perform.

Gabe finished his season on Friday with a 33-3 record and a career record of  127-32 which ties him with Jesse Harrington for fourth on the Crusader all time win list.

Was it the season Gabe hoped for, heck no but he showed he was tough and he stuck it out, and despite all his set-backs qualified for the State tournament and even if it didn't go as planned. In the end,  he showed everyone that the music group The Cure was right when they wrote the song "Boys Don't Cry!"

TAFFUR AND CAMPOLATTANO BRING HOME REGION TITLES

GLEASON ALSO QUALIFIES FOR STATE TOURNAMENT

It's no secret Bound Brook has done well producing Region 5 Champions and place winners the past ten years.... well make that eleven as the Crusaders were the only school with two Region 5 Champions on Saturday, plus Gabe Gleason gutted through the tournament to place third.

Our first winner put on a repeat performance as Nestor Taffur defeated Franklin's Colin Hewitt for the second weekend in a row by a 6-3 score to win the 145 title. Nestor depended on a good fast spin and took advantage of a bad shot by Hewitt in the first period. He then hit a tilt to take a early 4-0 lead. In the second period Hewitt took Taffur down and rode him for the rest of the period making the score 4-2 going into the third. Nest took neutral and quickly scored another spin take down. He then cut Hewitt to make the score6-3 and held Hewitt off for the rest of the match. Earlier in the day he pinned James Matlack of Ewing to move in to the finals.

The second winner of the day was Campolattano as he packed Mark Tyson of Monroe in a 1:39. The match started a little slow as Camp let Tyson take a good hard shot on him, but Andrew then woke up took Tyson down with a throwby single and then cranked the roll thorugh half for the quick pin. Andrew made it to the final round by pinning Old Bridge's Nick Orak in :20.

Gabe Gleason didn't make the Finals as hoped, but considering what he has been facing health wise, he had a very good day. In his semi-final he could not find a shot and lost to a game Adam Mongelli by a 4-2 score in overtime. But then in the wrestlebacks he started to grind the way he knows how and he beat Highland Park's  D'Andre Bell by a 9-2 score and Hunterdon Central's Evan Brewer by a 15-1 score to advance to the States.

There was one other Crusader wrestling on the day was Ricky Ash who lost his first match of the day to Larwrence's Tommy O'Rourke by a 13-6. Although Region 5 wasn't Ricky's best tournament he had a great half year of wrestling. Despite not wrestling since eighth grade, Ricky won a district title and showed that if he gets on board the Bound Brook Championship Training Train, he will see the top of the Region 5 podium someday!

The Crusader's now await the results of the State seeding meeting which takes place on Monday with the seeds being annouced on Monday night. The State Tournament starts on Friday at 5:30 in Atlantic City at Boardwalk Hall and contiune through Sunday. If you would like to attend there will be tickets at the door.

The Crusader's current records are as follows:

THREE OF FOUR ADVANCE ON FRIDAY
The Bound Brook Crusaders advanced three of four wrestlers in Friday night's quarter final round of Region 5. In the Crusader's first bout of the night Ricky Ash faced first seed Noel Santiago of Sayreville. Rick seemed a little tenative and couldn't get off the mark as he was taken down and turned with a couple of crossface cradles. The second cradle was deadly as Ricky was pinned at 1:06.
Next up was 135 and Gabe Gleason who won a controlled 5-0 decision against Del Val's Kyle Mesce. Nestor Taffur also faced a Del Val wrestler as he pinned Ryan Gellner in 1:48. Finally, Andrew Campolattano gave the Crusaders their third winner of the night with a 15-0 tech fall against Perth Amboy's Memphis DeLaRosa.
All the Crusaders continue Tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Hunterdon Central Fieldhouse. The three winners wrestle in the winner's bracket semis and Ricky wrestle in the semis of wrestlebacks.
 NON-CHAMPS STRUGGLE AT REGION 5

For the three Crusaders who did not win District titles on Saturday, but qualified for Region 5 their season came to a quick end on Tuesday night at the Region 5 wrestling tournament in Flemington. First up was Henry Shapiro who fell behind 5-1 in the first period to South Brunswick's Kevin Wadiak, but gamely fought back to tie the match 10-10 at the end of regulation with a takedown with just 17 seconds left. But it was Wadiak who took the shots in the overtime victory and concluded Henry's wrestling career by taking him down for the 12-10 victory.

Another senior who's career came to and end was Oleem O'Garro who lost to Old Bridge's Tom Hunt by a 6-2 score. O'Garro was the aggressor in the match, but had his elbows flopping around when he picked up Hunt's leg and ended up taking a trip to his back via a flying cement job. He fought of his back but couldn't recover from the five pointer.

Kenny Taffur also saw his season end via North Hunterdon sophomore heavyweight Jack Delia by a 20-8 score. Taffur was never in the match as Delia put on a takedown clinic with a tough handfight which pushed Ken all over the mat. Clearly, the best time Ken can spend in the off-season is with the iron in the room next to the wrestling room as he suffered a severe horsepower shortage this evening.

With those three wrestlers eliminated, all's left are Bound Brook's four District Champs whose matches and brackets have been determined for Friday's quarter finals. Ash, Taffur and Camp have wrestlers they yet to see this season, while Gleason has a Del Val opponent who he pinned in his first match of the season. The complete brackets can be viewed at http://blogs.mycentraljersey.com/onthemat/ . Our wrestler's seed number precedes their name  and look like this:

MIKE SCHIBANOFF

R.I.P.

Coach Mike Schibanoff, the Father of Bound Brook Wrestling and namesake of our wrestling room passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009 in California at the age of 91.
Mr. Schibanoff began as a gym teacher at Bound Brook High and in 1948  he and Dr. James Connerton approached the Board of Education to restart the wrestling program that had just begun before World War 2. The school board approved the program and Bound Brook wrestled their first full schedule in 1949 under Coach Schib and Dr. Connerton.
Although Mr. Schib was only a co-head coach for a few years, he worked with the program as an assistant or head coach until 1962. In his time as head coach his teams had a record of 49-14-2 and won multiple District and County Championships. He was instrumental in hiring some great Bound Brook coaches such as Norm Cromack and Bob Zarbatany.
During all of this time Mr. Schib was New Jersey's top referee  and was the head of the Section I National Federation Rules Committee. In fact, if you were to look in a Wrestling Rule Book from the late 1970's you will see pictures of different situations taken in the Bound Brook gymnasium and featuring future All-American Pete Schyuler.
Wrestling was not the only sport he coached at BBHS, as he was also the track and football coach.
His own children also brought great distinction to Bound Brook as his son was a State Champion in the hurdles for BBHS and  is a doctor in San Diego, California. His beloved daughter  Susan is a english professor Emeriti at the University of New Hampshire.
Not to be forgotten, his wife Mary was a second grade teacher in the Bound Brook school system. She was a great teacher and taught Bound Brook wrestlers like Pete Schyuler and your's truly. I love Mrs. Schib because she let me do my school work in the spacious coat closet and always understood what it was like to be the youngest child from a large tribe. You always felt the love and compassion of a mother when taught by Mrs. Schib.
Later in his career Mr. Schib went from gym teacher to athletic director at Bound Brook High School. but he always helped recruit wrestlers such as former Bound Brook greats future Hall of Famer like Bob Mizerek. He retired from the school district in 1980 and moved to Del Mar, California.
In Californial he loved to fish and be with his family. But in the Winter he'd wake up every morning to go online to see how his beloved Bound Brook wrestling team was doing. If he couldn't find a score, he'd call New Jersey to see how the kids did and often would request video of the new Bound Brook stars. I fondly recall when he called just to know what the move Andrew Flanagan was hitting from the collar tie which made kids go flying backwards.
He always gave great advice and let you know why others succeeded and things you might want to change. I asked him what was Henry Boresch's secret to coaching and he told me it was quantity. He said Coach Boresch always made sure his kids wrestled more than any other kids in the State and that's what made a basketball player turned wrestling coach successful.
Mr. Schib atttended the State Tournament until about the year 2000 when flying became a little difficult for him. But he was always honored by being a judge for the outstanding wrestler award and handed out some of the awards before the start of the final round.
He is survived by his wife Mary and children Dr. James Schibanoff and Susan Schibanoff, Ph.D.
If you'd like to read more about Coach Schib, just highlight his link to the left.
Bound Brook Wrestling Thanks Coach Schibanoff for the wonderful tradition and service he gave to the community of Bound Brook and he will always be loved and remebered in our 1.7 mile town we call home! Rest in Peace Coach.

FOUR CHAMPIONS

Crusaders Place 2nd in Distict, Taffur O.W.

About two weeks ago the Bound Brook wrestling coaches noticed that the team had started to take a turn for the better which culminated in a quad meet victory a week ago and a 16-14 recrod. Well that trend was a definite fact as the Crusaders turned in a great day two at District 18 and placed second and score four individual Champions. Not only did the Crusaders have the most Champs, they also had the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament when Nestor Taffur was given the award for defeating State Placewinner Colin Hewitt.
The day started with the semi-finals where five of eight Crusaders made it to the final round. The most entertaining match of the round was turned in by Ricky "Bad" Ash as he defeated second seed Mike Caver. Not to be outdone, Kenny Taffur showed why he's the best conditioned big man in the sport when he outlasted second seed Chris Rossi. The other winners were the Crusader's triple threat Gabe Gleason, Nestor Taffur and Andrew Campolattano. Falling in this round were Henry Shapiro, Ben Bentavegna and Oleem O'Garro.
However, in the Consolations Shapiro and O'Garro excised their loss demons as Henry had a nice 11-3 major decision over Hillsborough's Isaac Muck and Oleem O'Garro pinned Franklin's Josh Silencieux. With their wins they both qualified for Tuesday's Region 5 Tournament.
Then came a great Crusader final round as our wrestlers showed they were prepared for the big stage and do what they needed to win. The glory started with Ricky as he finished his triumphant return to the mats with a thrilling 6-4 finals victory over Montgomery's John Moyle who had soundly beat him in the County tournament a month before.
Next up was Gabe Gleason, who despite being dinged up and under the weather defeated Arlen Mace of Bernards by a 5-0 score. Then Nestor Taffur took to the center circle to avenge a loss that's been eating at him for a year. If one travels back a year they remember Nest falling apart against Franklin's Colin Hewitt and losing a 13-4 decision. Well not this time, Nest listened to his army of coaches and scored a 6-4 victory. The District 18 coaches acknowledged Nestor's accomplishment of beating the Franklin State place winner and awarded the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler Award. Thjis continued a streak of O.W. awards for the Crusaders this season as they've won every O.W. award in every tournament they've entered this year.
After Ricky's, Gabe's and Nestor's victory, Andrew Campolattano cruised to a  pin fall win against Ridge's  game Cameron Radonovic to give Bound Brook a tournament leading four Champions.
Kenny Taffur was the last Crusader to wrestle in the Finals and although he fell to Somerville's Christian Mackey, he showed that there's as much heart as weight in our 285 wrestler.
At the end of the evening the Crusaders sported the most Champs and a second place finish with seven Region qualfiers. Perfect, heck no! But a job well done!

Crusaders Get Job One Done

The Bound Brook Wrestlers all did their jobs on the first night of the District 18 Wrestling Tournament as no wrestler lost to a lower seeded wrestler. However, if they are to move up from their current third place showing they will need to wrestle above their seeds on Saturday.
The first winner of the night was Ghibran Zapata who defeated Andrew Duval in a pig-tail match to start the evening. The Crusaders next winner was at 130 as Ricky Ash pulled another of his rabbits out of his hat to beat Alex Zorilla for the third time this season.
Seniors Gleason, Shapiro, Nestor Taffur and Ben Bentivegna then all won their matches to give the Crusaders a total of five semi-finalists. Then after Zapata lost in his quarter-final, Frank Gianotti lost a 2-1 decision on a no taped shoe laces call.
Then upperweights Andrew Campolattano, Oleem O'Garro and Kenny Taffur all won to give the Crusaders a total of eight semi-finalists and put them in third place as a team.
Wrestling continues Tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the semi-finals, and the the consolations at 1 p.m. and finals at 3 p.m.
