Tuesday's Newspaper Coverage
Tuesday - Auburn Citizen - Vestal wins; faces Ramapo for title <-- READ THIS STORY FOR A DESCRIPTION OF A CLASSIC BASEBALL GAME!!>

From the Vestal Little League page (Monday):
Vestal A Advances to State Finals
Vestal defeated Levittown West 5-3 last night in a 9 inning emotional roller coaster of a game. Vestal was powered by Jeremy Baltz's 2 HRs and Jeremy also got the win in relief.
This was a total team effort with contributions from everyone. 2 key double plays were turned by Pat Talbut and Bijan Mangouri and 2 runners were cut down at the plate by Erik Lambe and Pat Talbut on ground outs.
Pat Talbut lead off the game with a solid double to left and scored on a throwing error after David VanGorder's infield hit. Levittown scored 2 in the first on 3 seeing eye infield hits and a ground out. Danny Werner had Levittown hitting grounders all night and let his infielders make the plays. Danny Werner and Tim Lewis made excellent fielding plays on grounders. Danny got out of a 2nd and 3rd situation in the 3rd with no outs when Pat Talbut erased the runner at home on a hot grounder. Levittown threatened to score in the 5th after a double and a throwing error put a runner on 3rd with 0 outs. Erik Lambe playing 3rd, got the runner at home on a hot smash.
Vestal tied the score in the 5th when Jeremy Baltz hit a homer to left on a 1-2 pitch. Vestal almost took the lead in the 6th when Pat Talbut's drive to left was hauled in at the fence by the Levittown left fielder with 2 on and 2 out.
With one out in the 7th Jeremy Baltz hit a towering fly over everything to center for the lead. Jeremy relieved Danny Werner in the 7th and walked the first batter who was cut down on great throw by Mike Danher trying to advance on a ball in the dirt. This play was critical because with 2 out and 2 strikes the Levittown leadoff batter, Kevin Chenicek, cleared the wall in left to tie the game at 3.
Vestal scored the winning runs in the 9th on a clutch 2 out double by David VanGorder, an intentional walk to Jeremy, and a double to right center by Erik Lambe. Jeremy got the first 2 batters in the bottom of the 9th but Levittown refused to quit and a runner reached on Jeremy's throwing error followed by a solid single. With runners on 1st and 3rd the Levittown hero in the 7th, stepped up to the plate, Kevin Chenicek. Jeremy throw nothing but curves and struck out Kevin to win the game.
Vestal plays Ramapo again at 6 PM tonight at Emerson Park in Auburn. The game will be broadcast by the YES network, CH 31 locally, on Friday August 1 at 7 PM. If Vestal wins they will play Ramapo again Wednesday at 6 PM for the State Championship. This game will also be broadcast by YES.
