BBA Purple People Eaters have big weekend as the PPE's roll!!!!
This weekend was a busy one for the Bauerstown Purple People Eaters as they had a game on Saturday and two on Sunday in the sweltering heat of the BBA Complex. One thing is for certain, the heat had no effect on the efforts as the weekend added three wins for the undefeated Purple People Eaters.
On Saturday, the PPE's defeated Alex Kline's Dehaven team 4-1 in a non conference event. Kelly Wall was the offensive star collecting three RBI's on a very timely triple in the second inning. Lea Bosilovich pitched outstanding ball as there were five strikouts in the first seven hitters. Defensively the team played flawlessly as the coaches are preparing the team for the stretch run.
On Sunday, Lea Bosilovich, pitching from the maximum 40 feet, again had a strong performance as did the defense as the PPE's defeated North Hills 2 by a score of 13-1. New stars started to emerge as Megan Schwartz and Dominique Viscomi had big offensive output in this game. Kayla Seidl came to play defense with a passion as she teamed with Shealee Nagel to produce six outs at second. Kara Bosilovich continued to stroke the ball well and solid outfield play by Taylor Jones enabled the team to cruise to this conference win.
Everyone seemed intent on hitting the ball in the second game against North Hills 3. Shealee Nagel pitched well, walking only two batters in this four inning game shortened by the 10 run rule. Nagel also had three hits including two that were lined into center field. Dominique Viscomi, Kelly Wall, Megan Schwartz and Maddie Alt all had timely hits to put North Hills away early. Elizabeth Defide continues her hitting streak and made what proved to be the play of the game throwing out a runner going from second to third on a hit to the outfield. When asked if he was concerned about his girls performance in the heat, Coach Wall said " My girls come to play everytime....they bring their A game and better continue to do so". Wall went on "the girls are going to face some serious competition coming up, so we are going to play some scrimmages against some 12 yr old teams and some other teams outside of our region before this team goes into the playoffs or to the Nationals in Ohio", referring to the USSSSA National Championships in Beavercreek Ohio, July 4-5-6. The PPE's will play North Hills 4 in a conference game on Tuesday followed by conference games at home Saturday against Brighton Heights 2, and sunday against Braun Jeffrey, before ending the regular season at Brighton Heights 1 next Tuesday. The PPE's, now 14-0, are averaging 15runs a game and giving up an average of 1.5. Yet Coach Wall seems concerned. "The girls have to understand that there is much better competition throughout the GPGSL. We need to get better. We need to execute. We actually need some very hard practices coming up. And trust me, the girls will get them".
