On February 7-9 the 2008 US Youth Soccer Adidas Workshop/Convention will be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. The event, the largest of its kind for youth sports in North America, features more than 90 educational workshops and demonstrations for administrators with more than 3,000 coaches attending, along with referees, parents, and soccer enthusiasts.
PA West Director of Coaching Paul Halford selected the Arsenal U12 and U13 boys to participate because they will need quality, talented players for a demonstration group, which will be conducted in front of hundreds if not more than a thousand of our country’s top soccer coaches on Friday, February 8. We will ask all of the boys and an interested parent(s) to meet at the Westin Hotel on 10th Street between Penn and Liberty Avenues in the lobby no later than 9:15 am. The boys will wear their yellow Cosmos jerseys, blue matching Copa shorts, blue 3-stripe COPA socks (NO ALTERNATE SHORTS OR SOCKS), and indoor training shoes (no cleats). They should bring their blue jerseys (just in case) and their matching backpacks. The boys will march in to the Convention Center together followed by their parents where we will all proceed to the registration table to obtain our convention passes. Parents will be able to attend the demonstration session with their child and the exhibit hall, but will not have access to classroom lectures or additional demonstration sessions. I will assist in providing parent passes, which I will need to collect following the session.
Water and balls will be provided and we ask that these be left home. In addition, training suits should be worn to the Westin Hotel, but they will be placed into their backpacks upon hotel arrival when we walk through the enclosed sidewalk over Liberty Ave.
Goalkeepers should wear their Keeper uniforms and bring their gloves. After we obtain our passes the boys will be provided with their US Youth Soccer Association uniform and then they will change into their new attire at the convention center.
We are all very proud that PA West’s Director of Coaching has selected the Arsenal boys to participate in the convention and that we are the only Club that has two boys teams representing the State Association. Our club looks forward to this exciting opportunity and we are very happy your son can participate in this wonderful event.
