January 28, 2012 – Despite a valiant effort, the depleted Arsenal team couldn’t quite keep up with the well-stacked team from Brandon. The Gunners played hard in the first period, allowing only one goal on multiple shots, thanks to some amazing saves by our awesome goaltender Eryk Lipiszky. Austin-James Cox recorded the lone shot on goal by for the Arsenal in the first. AJ, as well as RJ Pittman and Joey Wildgoose each added a shot in the second, but with no subs available the tired team couldn’t overcome the two goals tacked on by Brandon. Despite terrific defense from Jacob Kelly, with 7 zone clearing saves, the tournament ended for the Gunners with a 3-0 loss. We’ll be back to practice next week in preparation for the Brandon Cup, and hopefully our first win of the season!

January 22, 2012 – In a make-up game from earlier in the season, the Arsenal was down 2-0 when early in the second period a TBU player, the son of the team manager, was hurt and had to leave the field. As there was no other authorized person that the referees could recognize as coach, the game was called and the Arsenal declared the official winner. While we would like to have been able to finish the game, we will accept the win graciously and wish a speedy recovery to the injured TBU player. As we head into the TARSA end of season tournament, we are optimistic that our great play of late will carry us deep into the tourney. Go Arsenal!

January 21, 2012 – In their best offensive effort yet, the Gunners came together as a team to put the ball in the net a season-high three times against Brandon. In the first half, Jorge Balda was in the right place at the right time, as Reid Donaldson’s corner kick found its way to an opponent’s foot, then deflected off of Jorge into the goal, to give the Arsenal their first lead of the season. Joey Wildgoose was a force in the second half, driving the ball in twice, both off assists from Jorge. Shots on goal, which have been lacking this season, were added by Keenan Toole, Tyler Stoltz, RJ Pittman, Shane Matthews, and Cody Cummings. The defense worked hard to keep the ball out of our zone, with Austin-James Cox, Nick Shaw, and Shane leading the way with clears. As always, Evan Williams kept the ball moving in the right direction to limit the other team’s chances. Our goaltending tandem of Eryk Lipiszky and Nik Vega did a great job, combining to stop 10 of the 16 shots they faced. Despite the 6-3 final score, the Gunners can be proud of the teamwork, skill, and never quit attitude they displayed in this game.

January 14-15. 2012 - The Arsenal finally found their offensive punch in three tough games played over the two days. The first game was a warm-up as the Gunners fell 3-0 to the Hooligans, but the team showed marked improvement in ball control and in the offensive zone attack, with several close scoring chances. The second game, against the undefeated Town & Country International, provided excitement when down 4-0 in the second period, Evan Williams scored on a well-aimed header off a perfectly placed corner kick by Kalen Smith. Goaltender Jacob Kelly posted a second half shutout to lead to a 4-1 final. The Arsenal came out gunning in the second day of tournament play, with goals by RJ Pittman and Kalen Smith in a hard fought game against the Fusion. The assists were picked up by Tyler Stoltz and Jacob Kelly. The team combined for a season high 11 shots on goal. Final score was 6-2 Fusion. The coaches and parents are proud of the effort the Gunners are putting forth and the improvement they are showing. Best wishes go out from the team to Mark Saunders, who is recovering from surgery but hopes to be back on the field soon.

January 7, 2012 – It was all effort on the part of the Arsenal, who dominated the TBU team, and did everything but put the ball in the net. Defense was key, as Eryk Lipiszky posted his second consecutive first half shutout, assisted by Kalen Smith and Shane Matthews with three clears apiece. One defensive breakdown early in the second half led to the opponent’s lone goal, but the Gunners came on strong, keeping the ball in the offensive zone for much of the remainder of the game. Joey Wildgoose led the offense with three shots on goal, with five other players posting one shot each. With this kind of effort the ball is certain to start finding its way into the net! The team would like to wish a speedy recovery to Mark Saunders and Jeffrey Cox – we hope to see you back soon!

December 17, 2011 – In their closest game of the season, the Gunners worked together to hold the opponent to only one goal. Eryk Lipiszky was nearly perfect in net, stopping 11 of the 12 shots he faced, including an amazing save on a penalty shot from mere feet away. Nick Shaw led the defensive effort, aggressively keeping the ball cleared from our zone, while Mark Saunders kept the ball moving towards the offensive side of the field. Joe Wildgoose had two shots on goal for the Gunners. The team would like to welcome our newest Gunner, Conner, who played great in his first game. As we head into the holiday break, we look forward to continued improvement in our remaining games. Best wishes to all for a truly special Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!  next to Game 8.

December 10, 2011 - Despite the score, the Gunners played their best game yet this season, displaying excellent teamwork and giving the opponent a run for their money. With many players out with injuries, the shorthanded Arsenal kept up the energy for the entire 90 minutes and came close with several scoring chances. Kalen Smith, Reid Donaldson, and Keenan Toole provided aggressiveness up front, while Evan Williams, Jacob Kelly, and Jorge Balda kept the ball moving towards the offensive zone. Jeff Cox, Tyler Stoltz, and Nik Vega protected the defensive zone with everything they had. Goalie RJ Pittman made 7 amazing saves. Coaches Ron and Oscar along with the parents are proud of the effort the Gunners put in today!

December 3, 2011 - The Arsenal traveled south with high hopes but were soon shut down by a dominant Wimauma team. Jacob Kelly made 10 great saves in his first appearance in goal this season, and the opponent was held to 3 goals in the first half. But the Warriors really poured in on in the second to add 6 goals in the frame. The Gunners are determined to practice hard and come out stronger next week.

November 12, 2011 – The Arsenal came on strong in the second half but couldn’t stop the onslaught of the skilled Town & Country Team. Despite being down 3-0 at halftime, the Gunners never let up and turned up the intensity as the game went on. We are happy to welcome back former Gunner Kalen Smith, who scored the only Arsenal goal in his first game back on a great pass from Shane Matthews. Due to next week’s game being postponed, our next game will be after the Thanksgiving break. We wish the entire Arsenal family a happy and safe holiday!

November 5, 2011 - Our young Arsenal team gave it their all but came up short against the Brandon Prestige, last year's U19 champions. Although showing improvement and playing a more aggressive game, we're still struggling to get shots on goal. The team would like to welcome Jorge Balda, who made a strong showing in his first game as a Gunner. Sadly, we must say farewell to Sean Hayden and Noah Thomas, who will no longer be playing with the team but will always be Gunners. We'll get back to work this week in preparation for a better game next week!

October 29, 2011 - Despite lots of individual hustle, the Gunners seemed to be lacking in teamwork, which led to this lopsided loss. Some notable plays were Eryk Lipisky’s great head block in front of our net, preventing a score, and Sean Hayden breaking through with a goal after Austin-James Cox took a well placed shot that was bobbled by the goalie, allowing Sean to take advantage and boot in our first tally of the season. Goalies R.J. Pittman and Nik Vega made 6 saves each on a combined 19 Fusion shots on goal. Reid Donaldson led the team with 4 defensive clears, and Cody Cummings’ dribbling skills were on display as he deftly maneuvered the ball away from the opposition. Joe Wildgoose put on an offensive show, continually moving the ball downfield into the Fusion’s zone. We’ll keep working and come out stronger next week!

October 22, 2011 – The Arsenal gave it their all, but came out on the short end of this hard fought contest. But there was no shortage of teamwork as the Gunners showed their skills on the field. The brother team of Jeffrey and Austin-James Cox along with Mark Saunders played an aggressive game at forward. Defenders Cody Cummings and Nik Vega stood firm, while Reid Donaldson and Nick Shaw led the team in clears with three apiece. Shots on goal were contributed by Keenan Toole (2), Tyler Stoltz, Shane Matthews, and Reid. Evan Williams and Joe Wildgoose provided energy at mid, while Eryk Lipiszky and Robbie Sturm kept up the pressure with on the spot passing. Sean Hayden demonstrated great ball control in the offensive zone, and Noah Thomas produced several close scoring opportunities. Our player of the game was goaltender RJ Pittman, who stopped 13 of the 16 shots on goal he faced. Under the experienced guidance of head coach Ron Cox and assistant coach Oscar Vega, we know that our play will improve each week, and we’re looking forward to a great season. Go Arsenal!
