JO News 2009-2010 Season

Armstrong JO Volleyball

We will once again be running our winter JO teams for 2010!

What is JO volleyball?  It is a great opportunity for kids who are passionate about volleyball to play a full 5 month winter season with the high school coaches at Armstrong.

Tryouts for all age groups will be Sunday 11/15 at 9 am at AHS.

Practices will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings at AHS or Crystal Community Center from 7-9pm or 7:30-9:30pm beginning in December and running through April.  Our last competition will be NCR area Event in May.

Coaching our 16's will be John Pierce who is our 9th grade coach at AHS.

Coaching our 15's will be Karl Katzenberger who is the Varsity Coach at AHS.

Fees for the 2009 Season will be $765* (*Based on 10 participants per team.  In the event of only 9 players on the team, fees per participant will increase 11%.) Season fees are all inclusive - season fees cover coaching, use of facility, equiptment, uniforms, tournament entry fees and administration costs.

$265 will be collected as a down payment on the date of tryouts.

5 - $100 post dated checks will also be collected at the date of tryouts.

This is the only payment method we will offer this year.

Please understand that the budget for this program is kept intentionally thin to keep costs to the participant to an absolute minimum.  In the event of a season ending injury or conflict - there will be no refund of season fees to any player or family.  Please understand this policy and be aware of it when you try out for the team.

If you need a different schedule for payments please contact Karl.

We will be in the Ralia Power League once again held in Maple Grove.  Play dates will be Saturday or Sunday, AM or PM

Schedules will become published at the start of the season, but AM or PM wave info is released by Ralia Sports Center the week of competition.

Presidents Day Festival and NCR Area Event is also on the schedule again.

If you have any other questions - Please contact Karl at 952-406-2879 or ahsvb0@yahoo.com

2009-10 AHS Volleyball Policy Handbook

 Printable version

2009-10 AHS Volleyball Policy Handbook

Please understand that our goal number one is to provide a positive experience for all members of our program.  There are rules and guidelines in place to help ensure we achieve these goals.

1) Please be aware of any and all AHS Athletics and MSHSL rules in regards to eligibility, substance use and any infractions that could result in a loss of eligibility for volleyball.  Ie: Academic standards, detention, participation standards, etc... It is your responsibility to know and accept the consequences of these rules.

2) We ask that your commitment hierarchy be: Family, School, Volleyball.  Any absence or conflict arising from another avenue must be resolved in advance with your team coach, or your eligibility will be in jeopardy.

3) Playing time philosophy is as such: At 9A, 9B, Sophomore and JV we will make every effort to create and foster a role for each athlete.  We make no guarantees about playing time and cannot institute any kind of "equal playing time" agenda.  We will make certain every player has a clearly defined role within her team provided they are in good standing with their team coach.  At the varsity level any playing time will be at the sole discretion of the coaching staff.  Our goal is to put our best foot forward competitively speaking.  Please understand that there can and will be differences in opinion between participants, parents and coaches as to playing time.

Conflict Resolution:

All issues that arise should follow this protocol: A) The player speaks with the Team Coach,  B) The player speaks with the  Team Coach and Head Coach, C) The player and parent speak with the Head Coach, D) If the issue cannot be resolved after these steps, then the athletic office will become involved.

4) Please allow 24 hours after a match to address any issues with the coaching staff.  Emotions can run high for players, coaches and parents immediately after a contest and no issues will be addresses with a family pursuant to a particular match until 24 hours after the fact.

5) Understand that substance use will not be tolerated.  The first offense will be dealt with under MSHSL rules and/or lead to expulsion from the volleyball program.  The offender will also lose eligibility for captaincy for the remainder of her career.  The second offense will terminate eligibility for the volleyball program indefinately.

6) Understand you are a student/athlete.  If grades or attendance standards fall below guidelines published by AHS or the MSHSL you will be ineligible to

compete unless there are special circumstances resolved with the coaches and school staff.

7) Personal conduct.  If you are found to be conducting yourself in a manner that is detrimental to yourself or the AHS Volleyball program, you will be notified in writing of a violation.  If you fail to correct the behavior outlined in a performance improvement plan provided by the coaching staff you will be in jeopardy of losing eligibility to participate in the AHS Volleyball program.  Personal conduct includes but is not limited to: hazing, abuse of equiptment, dishonesty etc...

8) All lower level teams are required to support the varsity team at all concurrent playdates.  This includes supplying a ball team for the varsity match and any other proscribed duties.  All AHS team members are required to ride the bus back to AHS - the only exception will be a parent notifying Karl personally that they are driving their own daughter home from the site.

9) You must have appropriate vollleyball equipment to participate at AHS.  Appropriate volleyball equipment is defined as a T-shirt with sleeves that is long enough to tuck in, athletic shorts and ankle socks with no kneepads or long socks when wearing kneepads.

10) Please respect the coaching staff's decision on team placement.  We feel that through experience we have become particularly knowledgeable and have spent quite some time evaluating your daughters skills and how they best fit the needs of the program.  Any movement between teams will be made at the discretion of the coaching staff.

11) Addendums to policy will be given in writing to participants over the course of time.
