My Site News: Celtics Burn Crusaders, 36-22

Celtics Burn Crusaders, 36-22
Saturday, February 1, 2003
Arlington, Texas
---------------------------

The Celtic warriors came out blazing this Saturday morning--and the points rained down upon the Crusaders. At game's end, six Celts had scored and any hopes of crusading further had ended.

Sparking the Celtic offense were starting point guards Spencer and Andre. Each set up several scoring opportunities for their teammates. Cristian led the scoring with twelve, followed by big Matthew at 10. Darian added six points, followed by the scrappy McFarland lad at 4. Corey and Brandon rounded out the scoring with one bucket each.

Dagen led the defense again this week, smothering his capable opponent. This Crusader bunch was disciplined, well-trained, and chock full of basketball talent. But, they were no match today for the high-flying, high-scoring Celtics.

After the game, Coach Grady ("The Kid") remarked, "when Chris made that steal and went coast-to-coast, I knew this game was to be special. And, that Andre is quite a ball-handler."

"Strong rebounding and aggressive defense helped to keep our scoring alive. Our kids played smart basketball today. We gave the Crusaders several looks defensively. I asked a couple of lads to step up the defense using halfcourt one-man traps; those were new to them, but they executed perfectly," remarked Doctor Chuck following the game. "We've got a lot of work to do this week in practice. Our halfcourt offense is only about one-third installed. We'll add pick-and-rolls this week. But, 36 points is a ton for fourth graders. The Celtic spirit was alive and well today. We had lots of steals and were 'first to the ball' throughout the contest--and those Crusaders have a great basketball team."
