The Storm ladies went 3-1 in their first tournament of the season. They played two pool play games Saturday, defeating the Panthers 12-1, then the Hawkettes 3-0. Bracket play began late Sunday morning against the '90 Thunder. The girls came up with some big hits when they needed them and won the game 8-3. Next up in the semi finals was Liberty Gold. The game was touch go until the end, but the Storm girls came up a little short and had to settle for a third place trophy.

COP-Winter Wind Up
The 92 Storm girls went 4-1 this weekend, earning them 3rd place in the 21 team tournament. They came out determined and won their pool by defeating the Desert Kaos and the Sugar & Spikes. Bracket play began early Sunday morning with the girls continuing their strong play by first beating the Extreme 10-2, and then holding the Lil Saints to one hit and winning 8-0. Next up in the semi's was the always tough Hotshots team. These teams have played some great games the past couple years, but the girls came out a little flat and fell to them 6-1. Next time ladies!!!

Monday, January 26
ASA-JO Tournament
The Storm girls made it through some wet weather and good competition to go 4-2 and take home third place. Saturday started early with the girls belting out some big hits to beat Explosion 11-1. Next up was our Tucson rivals the Desert Thunder who were sky high after beating one of the top teams in Arizona the Liberty Gold. The game went back in forth with the Thunder taking a 3-2 lead late in the game, but with a solo homerun to tie,and some great at bats the Storm girls were able to pull the game out 4-3. The last game of pool play was against Liberty who used some big hits to bring the Storm girls down to earth with a 7-2 defeat. Sunday's first game against the New Mexico Heat was delayed over an hour, and shortned to 65 minutes due to rain. The game was highlighted by 3 monster homeruns, and the girls cruising to an easy 9-0 win. Game two appeared to be in the books, but some defensive breakdowns in the Thunderhawks last at bat opened the door for them to tie the game at 3 apiece and send the teams into an international tie-breaker. The girls executed a bunt-and-run perfectly to move the runner to third, then scored quickly on a passed ball to end the game victoriously 4-3. In the semi's the girls ran into a much improved Lil Saints team, who shut down the Storm bats and the girls dreams of a rematch with Liberty Gold in the championship game. **Congratulations on a great weekend of softball.

USSSA-Spring Training Classic
The 92'Storm girls played up in 14U division this weekend going 4-1 and finishing a strong third out of 12 teams. Pool play started early Saturday with the girls run-ruling the Vipers 11-1 in 4 innings. In the second game they had to face the fastest pitcher in the tournament and her teammates on the Wildfire. They were a little intimidated at first, then started taking it to them with some big hits and run-ruled them in 5 innings 9-0. The last game of the day was against the Twisted Angels. The girls didn't play their strongest game, but had a huge grand slam to end the game victoriously 7-3. Sunday the girls had a bye and were able to sleep in. Their first game of elimination play was against an improving Explosion team. They sputtered a little in the beginning, but the big bats came out again with the Storm ladies winning easily 17-4. Next up in the semi's the girls had to face the eventual tournament champions the Desert Thunder. They tried hard, but the more experienced team from Tucson proved to be too much for the young Storm ladies. Congratulations on another great weekend of softball.

Monday, March 8
COP-Spring Fling
The Storm girls dominated the competition by compiling a 5-0 record and outscoring the opposition 45-4. They run-ruled both teams in their pool 13-0, and 12-0 to finish first. These games were highlighted by aggressive base-running and some strong defense. Sunday morning the girls opened the bracket play by sending the Suncats home with an 11-1 victory. Next up in the semi's they had to face AZ Explosion, defeating them with some big hits 7-2. In the championship game the Storm ladies looked a little tired, but didn't let a determined Scorpio team get anything started, beating them in close game 2-1. Congratulations!!!

12U AZ Storm Blows Away Field at Diamondback
By Jim McCurdy

Genelle Carizosa was home-run happy, and the Arizona Storm kept its little hot streak going.

Carizosa hit four home runs as the Storm won the 12-under title in the Triple Crown Sports AZ Diamondbacks Spring Championship at Desert West Softball Complex in Phoenix March 20-21. It was the second straight tournament the Storm won.

Based out of Glendale, Ariz., the Storm beat the SoCal Fury of Valencia, Calif., 11-6 in the championship game. Carizosa, the lone 12-year-old on the club, belted a home run early in a game that stayed close through five innings.

The Storm never trailed, but after the Fury banged out some big hits in the fifth inning, the Southern California team found itself within a run, 6-5. Yet as the pattern unfolded throughout the contest, the Storm supplied some heavy offense of its own to widen the lead and win comfortably.

“We were hitting the ball all over the place,” Storm coach Brian Tyler said. “So were they. We just had more big hits than they did.” Carizosa, a left fielder and the veteran on the team, went 2-for-3. First baseman Colette Siroky, who never sat out an inning throughout the weekend, was 2-for-3. Shortstop Byanna Navarro also had two hits in three trips to the plate. Jennifer Tyler picked up the win on the mound.

In the semi-finals, the Storm beat the Xplosion of Peoria, Ariz., 6-1. Pitcher Chrissy Tyler tossed strikeout after strikeout to secure the win. Of course, it didn’t hurt that she got help from Carizosa, who cranked a 220-foot shot early in the game to set the tone. Catcher Paige Tonz also homered.

Chrissy Tyler, Jennifer’s sister, pitched a perfect game - in large part the result of a strong defensive effort - in a 12-0 win over the Arizona Wolves during pool play. “The defense was really strong that game,” Brian Tyler said.

“They hit some hard balls and we made some great plays,” - namely Navarro and third baseman Rae Ball. Mackensie Popesque tossed a one-hit shutout to beat California Rock Steady of Fontana, Calif., 5-0 in pool play. Carizosa homered in that game. The Storm went 3-0 before the elimination round, outscoring their opponents 27-1.

Ball, accustomed to pitching, was one of the main reasons the Storm took second at the TCS World Series a year ago. But after experiencing tendonitis in her wrist, a specialist advised her not to pitch for six weeks. That meant there were holes to fill. “Chrissy and Mackensie stepped in, and did really well,” Tyler said. Ball returned to the mound, pitching a couple games in a Tucson tournament April 3-4, and made nice progress.

“She seems to be back to form,” Tyler said. “She’s getting there. I’m sure by this summer, she’ll be back to where she was at.” The Storm went 6-0 to claim the Diamondbacks tournament. With a majority of the girls 11 years old - the Storm are setting their sights on the future. “For an 11-under team, we’re just hoping to finish .500,” Tyler said. “We want to get through this year, and make sure the girls feel good about themselves. Next year we hope to place at the ASA Nationals.”

Sunday, April 18
TCS-Peter Piper Pizza Tournament
The Storm girls managed their way through the tie breaker format Saturday with plenty of big hits and aggressive base running. The real fun started on Sunday when the tournament went back to a traditional single elimination bracket play. Their first game they defeated the Sierra Vista Diamonds 10-0. In the second game it took them 11 innings and almost three hours before they finally overcame a very strong Tucson Cats team. This set up the semi-final game against their rivals the Desert Thunder. In what was a great defensive game for both teams the Storm girls hung on to win 1-0. In the championship they had to face arguably one of the strongest teams in the 12U division the Liberty Gold. The girls gave it their all, but Liberty's experience and big bats proved to be to much for the tired Storm ladies to overcome. Great effort all weekend girls!!

Sunday, May 2
TCS-Lake Havasu Summer Kickoff
The Storm ladies traveled to the California border to take on some different teams in a new venue. They cruised through their first two games against the American Pastime, and RC Spirits. After a long break at the lake, and a big BBQ, the girls had to head back to the field to take on the Missfits. It was apparent the girls were a little wore out and fell to them 3-5. Sunday's bracket play opened with the Wildfire. The girls were all business, run-ruling them in 3 innings. They were pumped up for the Artesia Punishers, defeating them in a close game 6-5. In the championship game they had the rematch they wanted against the Missfits. This time the Storm girls were ready and run-ruled them in only 2 innings.

Sunday, May 16
ASA-McGonigle
The Storm girls went 6-2 to finish second this past weekend. Pool play started early and finished late Saturday. It was highlighted by an exciting victory against a very good Desert Thunder team. They dropped a game to EV Pride which placed them 2nd in their pool. The girls were back at it early Sunday morning defeating the Rebels 10-0. Next up was the Lil Saints and they meant business. Their pitcher kept them off balance for most of the game, but in the end the Storm girls managed to get some clutch hits and pull the game out 4-2. In the semi's they faced Explosion who had some exceptional plays from their shortstop to keep the game close, but the Storm girls put together enough offense to win. The championship game was a rematch against EV Pride. The girls gave them a good run, but the talented Pride team pulled away, and the young Storm girls had to settle for second.

Tuesday, June 1
ASA-Memorial Day
The Storm girls headed south to take on Tucson's best. They had four pool play games Saturday and Sunday going 2-2. They defeated the Scramblers and the Cats, but lost a close one to the tournament hosts Desert Thunder and Trouble. In bracket play they beat the Wolfpack and then the Desert Cobras before having to play the Trouble again in the semi's. The Storm girls had the lead late in the game, but the Trouble came back to take the win.

Monday, June 14
USSSA-Schools Out
The Storm girls where at Papago park this past weekend to test themselves against the sixteen teams playing in the 14U division. When all the dust settled they left the fields tired, but carrying a respectful third place trophy. Saturday they finished third in their pool by run-ruling the Gators then dropping two close games to the Impulse and Ice. On Sunday they won their first game easily before they had to face the Suncats. It was a very competitive game, but the girls found themselves down 3-6 in their last at bats. With some clutch hits the girls rallied for five runs to advance to the semi's and a rematch against the Tucson Impulse. The girls played well, keeping it close, but couldn't get anything going against the Impulse pitcher losing 0-4.

USSSA Independence Day Classic
Congratulations to the Storm ladies for an impressive tournament victory in the cool pines of Flagstaff this past weekend. They won all six of their games by a combined score of 74-2, with five shut-out wins. We would also like to congratulate Rae for finishing second in the homerun contest Saturday.

Monday, July 19
TCS State Champs
The Storm girls had to battle the heat to go undefeated and claim the 12U championship this past weekend. They will be introduced at Bank One Ballpark August 3rd, as the TCS 12U State Champions. Congratulations!!!

Monday, July 26
TCS-Hall of Fame Champions
The Storm ladies took to the road to play in the cool weather of Albuquerque, New Mexico. They didn't get to play their pool games because of the torrential rain storms that came down Wednesday and Thursday evening. The team finally hit the fields Friday morning with a win against the Starz, and then the rain came again during their win against the Sol sending everyone home soaked. The Saturday games were postponed and moved to Sunday. The girls arrived at the fields for an early morning game only to find the fields partially under water. This didn't stop the Storm parents who volunteered to clear the water and prep the field. After an hour of hard work the games continued with another victory against the Texas-XLR8. In the championship game they had to play the Starz who came through the losers bracket. After seven innings the girls were able to claim the tournament championship. We would also like to congratulate Rae for winning the homerun contest.
