Annapolis Baseball Club: Spring 2011 Divisions

Select Season:  
T-ball
5 & 6 year olds:
A co-educational program designed to introduce youth to the fudnementals of baseball in a relaxed enjoyable environment. Players are exposed to the basics of throwing, catching and hitting. Coach pitch hitting and batting tee hitting are both offered and all activities are conducted with "Reduced Injury Factor" baseballs. Emphasis is on fun and participation. The baseball club will provide all necessary equipment, with the exception of baseball gloves.

Rookie Baseball
7 & 8 year olds:
A co-educational program designed to further fundamental baseball skills (throwing, catching, fielding and hitting) while emphazing particiaption. Players bat against JUGS state of the art pitching machines. Machine pitch games enhance batting proficiency, increase fielding opportunities and improve overall skill level. All players bat in sequence. Opportunities are provided for each player to experience infield and outfield play. No records are kept regarding team scores or league standings.

Minors Baseball
9 & 10 year olds:
A baseball program designed to train players in the complete game. Players pitch for the first time. Base stealing is authorized and players are tought strategy in addition to hitting, fielding and throwing fundamentals. All players bat in sequence and are provided the opportunity to demonstrate skills in the infield, outfield and pitching/catching. Records are kept, standings are maintained and intra-league post-season play culminates in a league championship.

Majors Baseball
11 & 12 year olds:
An advanced baseball program designed to refine player skills in all aspects of the game. Games are played with complete baseball rules in effect, i.e., leading, base stealing, the infield-fly and balk rule, etc. Advanced baseball strategies are taught and players compete for positions. Opportunity is provided for every player to participate; advanced players will receive more playing time at the more skilled positions. The Major Division teams play in the Annapolis City Pony League.

Babe Ruth Baseball
13 & 14 year olds:
Building on the Babe Ruth program, this league provides an advanced baseball program designed to refine player skills in all aspects of the game. Games are played with complete baseball rules in effect, i.e., leading, base stealing, the infield-fly and balk rule, etc. Advanced baseball strategies are taught and players compete for positions. Opportunity is provided for every player to participate; advanced players will receive more playing time at the more skilled positions. The Babe Ruth teams play in the Anne Arundel County League.

Select Baseball Teams
Select baseball is provided for the Minor Division, (9-10 yrs) and Major Division (11-12 yrs). SELECT baseball is extremely competitive and played throughout Anne Arundel County in lieu of regular season play. SELECT play is the most competitive opportunity available.

Advanced players ready for SELECT play will be invited to try out for these teams.

In addition to more competitive play, ABC has committed to send our 13U team to Cooperstown Dream Park for a week-long tournament playing other SELECT teams from throughout the U.S.A. ABC has participated in this tournament for the past 11 years. It provides a unique opportunity for the SELECT players to experience true competitive baseball and play a broader scope of teams.

Cal Ripken All-Star Teams
At the end of the season, ABC Baseball rec teams will have the opportunity to create an All-Star team for each Division.

The All-Star teams will participate in Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth tournament games. Details regarding the All-Star teams and how they will be selected for each Division will come from each Division's Commissioner during the season.
