Well the season is now over for the Scarborough Winter Tennis Club (SWTC) at the L'Amoreaux Tennis Centre and the Toronto Parks and Rec's tennis programs are now in full swing.  Please view the Toronto Parks and Rec's Activities Guide for tennis lessons offered at the L'Amoreaux Tennis Centre over the Spring and Summer months (May-August) or call 311 for Recreation Programs or register online at http://www.toronto.ca/parks/prd/torontofun/index.htm. .

Tennis is a great way to stay active and healthy, easy to learn, very socialable, challenging, safe, but most of all fun to play.  There are many community Tennis Club in the Scarborough area and I'm sure in your community area as well.  Outdoor club memberships are usually very reasonable, with most clubs offering free lessons for the beginners/new intermediates, as well as team play for the more competitive spirits.  Tennis is great for ages 8 to 80 and I'm sure once you give tennis a try, you'll get hooked.

During the spring/summer months (May - September) I will be operating out of the L'Amoreaux Tennis Centre and possibly another summer club in Scarborough (club to be determined).  At the L'Amoreaux Tennis Centre I will be running the weekly Monday Night OWSA Wheelchair Tennis program, my Spring & Summer Junior practice/fitness groups (Sunday afternoons in May/June, Mon/Wed/Fri mornings in July/August), and giving private and semi-private tennis lessons.  If you would like to take lessons or wish to join my practice group, please send me an email or give me a call.

Once the Summer months are over, I will be joining the SWTC Coaching team again to manage all of the Junior After School Programs (JASP) for the Winter season (October -April).  For those that wish to continue playing and improving their tennis skills during the Winter season, please check back here in September for the full list of junior programs I will be running for the SWTC and/or checkout the SWTC website (see links section).

Have a safe and fun Spring/Summer, and maybe I'll see you on the courts.

BRINDTHA RAMASAMY - #1

Congratulations to Brindtha Ramasamy for winning the OTA 2012 Under 12 Ontario indoor Provincials at the Ace Tennis Academy in Burlington.  This will place her as the number 1 seed for the Ontario U12 team at the Nationals in Calgary.  Lets all wish her good luck at the Nationals.  (Update: Brindtha came in 2nd overall in singles and doubles at the Nationals).

It has been my pleasure and honour to be Brindtha’s first tennis coach, giving her and her sister (Luxmi) private lessons for a number of years before passing them off to Wes Lore (SWTC Club Pro) for farther development.  While I taught them the necessary basic skills, gave them homework, direction, encouragement and support, it was their love for the sport and determination that has powered them to greatest.  I am proud to have started them on this path of success and wish them both many more triumphs.

I would also like to congratulate the parents, Sathia and Kumar for their dedicated support and patients in allowing their kids to develop into the players they are now.   It is this combination of coaches, players and parents that can make a successful team, and this is one that has worked out well.

I wish the Ramasamy’s all the best in their future endeavors and a prosperous and bright future.

image_name2

The Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association in co-operation with Toronto Parks & Rec and the L'Amoreaux Tennis Centre has a weekly Wheelchair Tennis clinic/program for beginners and intermediate players every Monday evening from 7-9 PM.  I will be conducting the first hour of instructional training with the second hour dedicated for free play and/or practice.

This wheelchair tennis program is open to all OWSA members (and guests).  I invite all wheelchair participants to come out and give wheelchair tennis a try, all you need is a racquet and the desire to have fun and hit some balls.

For more information on this and other wheelchair programs, please visit the OWSA website (in the Links section).
