SOL Competes at Thanksgiving Shootout

This past weekend SOL traveled to Phoenix to compete at the Az. Hotshots Thanksgiving Shootout.  This was a 16U college showcase event that drew some of the best teams from the western United States.  There were 26 premier colleges in attendance.  Only 24 teams were invited to attend and it was one of the best showcases that we have attended.

In the 5 game round robin format, Sol competed against 3 Arizona and 2 California teams.  In the 5 games the girls only gave up a total of 5 earned runs and hit the ball well all weekend.  It was good to see the girls compete against some really good competition.

The girls will have a break for the holidays and we will finish the fall season with 2 more showcases in January before the high schools season starts.

Monday, November 9
SOL plays at the Duke City Classic

This past weekend SOL competed at the 1st Annual Duke City Classic Showcase.  The event was host by SOL and was the first showcase event held in Albuquerque.  SOL and all the other teams were able to play in front of college coaches ranging from Division 1 to Jr. Colleges.

It was a great weekend for the SOL girls, going 5 -0 in the 5 game round robin.  SOL only allowed 2 runs in five games.   The weather was perfect and the event was a big success.

Next SOL will travel to Phoenix for the Az. Hotshots, Thanksgiving Shootout to play against some of the best 16u teams in the nation.

SOL with ENMU Team
Albuquerque SOL participated in the Eastern New Mexico University Camp / Round Robin this past weekend in Portales NM.  SOL along with the Midland Explosion 18u team were able to play on the Zias home field in front of the Eastern staff along with New Mexico Highlands coaches. We would like to thank Coach Sigwing, her staff, and the Zia players for having us. The Zia players served as the officials for the day and were excellent hosts. We would also like to thanks Coach Broyles from Highlands for coming out and watching the girls. Overall it was a great day for softball, the weather was perfect and it was a great chance for the girls to show off their skills to some of the in-state universities.

Monday, October 26
SOL competes in Texas

This past weekend SOL traveled to the Lone Star state and competed in the Ft. Worth Batbusters Showcase in Keller Tx.  In the 5 game round robin SOL finished with a 4-1 record.

In the first game SOL played the Tx. Blaze National team and started a little slow allowing 5 runs in the first 3 innings.  That was all the girls would allow the rest of the weekend.  The girls battled back but ended up losing 5-4 to the Blaze.  In the remaining 4 innings and the next 4 games the girls would not allow another run for the rest of the weekend.  With solid pitching and tight defense SOL recorded 4 shutouts in a row.  In game 2 SOL beat the Batbusters 2-0, Game 3 the girls beat Tx Rapid Fire 6-0, game 4 SOL run ruled American Freedom 8-0, and the final game versus Tx. High Voltage, SOL won 7-0 in a combined no hitter.

Next SOL with participate in a round robin showcase at Eastern NM University.

Monday, October 12
SOL Opens Fall 2009 Season

Albuquerque SOL opened up its fall season this past weekend with the Future Stars Showcase in Phoenix Az.  SOL played in the 5 game round robin format showcase and finished with a 4-1 record.  It was the first time the girls had taken the field since Nationals in early August.

In the first game the rust from not playing was evident but for the rest of the weekend the girls played progressively better.

SOL will continue its fall season by playing in the Monster Ball next weekend in Las Cruces.  The girls will play through mid November when they will finish the fall season at the Arizona Thanksgiving Shootout in Phoenix.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
