Finalists in the Festitalia Soccer Tournament

Sept 4th & 5th, 2010

The Heat experienced a great weekend in Hamilton on the Mountain.  Mount Hamilton Youth Soccer Club hosted the Festitalia for the Labour Day weekend.  The Heat were undefeated on day one versus Fort Erie, Mt. Hamilton and North York Azzuri Hearts. The boys were victorious in all three games posting 13 goals in total and conceeding none.

Sunday started off with sunny skies and some great competition.  Niagara Falls Titans were our semi final opponent.  (Flashback to the 47th Annual AC Douglas Tournament,  the Heat faced the Titans in a great semi final which went into overtime after a 0-0 in reglation play).  This semi proved to be just as intense with the score 0 - 0 leading into the second half.  The Heat netted a ball with less than 10 minutes left and sealed the victory with a second  goal to win 2-0 and advance to the Finals.

The Heat met West Toronto United in the Finals.  West Toronto was equally successful winning all three round robin games as well.  The game was well played and West Toronto netted a ball half way through the second half.  The Heat played with a lot of heart and refused to give up.  With less than 1 minute remaining the Heat tied up the match to send it into overtime.  Two  5  minute golden goal overtimes could not decide a winner and the teams went to penalty shots for the Championship.

At the final whistle the Heat came up short and West Toronto edged the Heat taking the match in penalties.

Congrats to West Toronto United !!

Special thanks to Coach Michael and the Ajax Predators for assisting us at this tournament !

2009 U9 Season

47th AC Douglas Tournament (Niagara Falls, On.)- Champions

August 8th  & 9th

Tournament Summary

The Challenge of defending their title had the Ajax Heat back in Niagara Falls for a fun filled weekend.  The boys were among 20 teams who came to represent their clubs and hometowns.  The Heat finished first in their group after day one and looked forward to a great Sunday.  The Heat were matched against Windsor Ciociaro for the quarter finals.  The boys mangaged a win after being down 1 -0 until the last few minutes of the game.  In overtime the boys found the back of the net to move on the semis.   Mother nature had some different plans and the day which started sunny and hot was now under cloudy skies and some thuderstorm activity.  As a result of the weather, game play was delayed for over an hour.  As play resumed the boys were set for their semi final match against their next opponent.  Niagara Falls Blue were equally as tough as the match went scoreless after 40 minutes.  The Heat found a way to win and were able to move forward with the Golden Goal victory in overtime.  The finals were now set as two Durham teams were in the Championship game.  As the sun peeked through the clouds the Heat were ready to go and would not be denied as defending Champions.  The Heat broke open the scoring in the first half and refused to look back.  Excellent defensive play kept Whitby B off the scoreboard and limited their chances throughout.

At the final whistle the boys were crowned 2009 AC Douglas U9 Boys Tournament Champions.

Ajax Soccer Club Tournament - Champions

Ajax Tournament 3

Tournament Summary

The Heat were poised and ready to take on all teams for the Ajax Soccer Club Tournament.  With a compliment of  16  teams there were competitors from as far west as Guelph and as far east as Peterborough and Northhumberland.  With a sunny Saturday morning the tournament kicked off.

The first game was against North Toronto Nitros Green.  The boys managed a 4-2 win to start the day.  The Heat followed this up with a 10-0 win over the Olympic Flame and 5-0 over Oak Ridges.  The quarter finals matched the Heat against Pickering Gold.  A 7-3 win moved the Heat to the Semis to face the Leaside Flying Tigers.  The Heat continued working hard and netted 6 goals in a 6-1 victory.

The Final was to be against North Toronto Nitros Green.  Flashing back to 2008 the two teams met in the Final with North Toronto defeating the Heat 3-2 in the pouring rain.  This year would be much different as the Heat played their hearts out and captured the Championship with a 3-1 win at the final whistle.

Well done boys !

On behalf of the Ajax Heat we would like to thank all 80 boys teams (U7 -U11) who entered our tournament and helped to make it a success.

Toronto Cup (Markham, On.)- Finalists

July 4th & 5th

 Toronto Cup B

Tournament Summary

The Heat enjoyed a wonderful weekend in Markham at the Toronto Cup.  The first game was against Islington Rangers Blue saw the Heat win 7 - 0.  This was followed by a 8 - 0 win over Uxbridge.  Sunday started off with a 13 - 0 win over Toronto Eagles which put the Heat in the Semi Final.  North Toronto was our next test which the Heat won 5 - 0.  Moving on to the final the boys met arguably one of the best teams in the GTA.  The Vaughan Azzuri Battlecats equally successful in all of their games and semi.

The Heat broke open the scoring to start the match and were met goal for goal with the Battlecats taking a 3 -2 lead into the half.  With Vaughan scoring in the second half the Heat were down two goals with 5 minutes to go.

In storybook fashion the boys showed a lot of heart and netted 1 goal and followed it up with another with less than 1 minute to spare.

Tied 4 - 4 the teams went into a shootout.  When the final whistle sounded, the Battlecats had edged out the the Heat 4 - 3 on Penalty Kicks.

An excellent job by the boys despite the outcome.   Coming back in the last few minutes was a challenge they overcame which was fantastic.

Tournament Summary

Playing up in the U10 Division the boys were in tough as they faced off against some bigger, stronger and faster competition .  With some size and speed to make up for the boys started off slow and ended up down 3-0 to the Ajax Fury after one half.    In the second half the Heat settled in and kept the game a lot closer.  Each team netted a goal and the end result was 4-1 . The Fury's keeper made a number of great saves to keep the Heat from getting any closer.

Game 2 saw the Heat match up against the Whitby A U10 Boys.  The Heat were outmatched by some of the speed and skill that the Whitby team had.  Down 1-0 after the first half the boys played with a lot of heart and scored a few minutes into the second half.  With some intense moments filling the remaining 20 minutes of the match the boys held on and were overjoyed with a draw.

Game 3 saw the Heat up against the Port Hope team.  The boys controlled the majority of the play and netted a goal to go up 1-0.  In the last 2 minutes Port Hope was able to capitalize on a set piece and the match ended 1-1.

In all the boys played well throughout the weekend. Despite their opening half against Ajax Fury .  The boys kept all opponents to a maximum of 1 goal in each game and were able to score against all teams at least once with a few great chances throughout the matches.
