Finalists in the Festitalia Soccer Tournament
Sept 4th & 5th, 2010
The Heat experienced a great weekend in Hamilton on the Mountain. Mount Hamilton Youth Soccer Club hosted the Festitalia for the Labour Day weekend. The Heat were undefeated on day one versus Fort Erie, Mt. Hamilton and North York Azzuri Hearts. The boys were victorious in all three games posting 13 goals in total and conceeding none.
Sunday started off with sunny skies and some great competition. Niagara Falls Titans were our semi final opponent. (Flashback to the 47th Annual AC Douglas Tournament, the Heat faced the Titans in a great semi final which went into overtime after a 0-0 in reglation play). This semi proved to be just as intense with the score 0 - 0 leading into the second half. The Heat netted a ball with less than 10 minutes left and sealed the victory with a second goal to win 2-0 and advance to the Finals.
The Heat met West Toronto United in the Finals. West Toronto was equally successful winning all three round robin games as well. The game was well played and West Toronto netted a ball half way through the second half. The Heat played with a lot of heart and refused to give up. With less than 1 minute remaining the Heat tied up the match to send it into overtime. Two 5 minute golden goal overtimes could not decide a winner and the teams went to penalty shots for the Championship.
At the final whistle the Heat came up short and West Toronto edged the Heat taking the match in penalties.
Congrats to West Toronto United !!
Special thanks to Coach Michael and the Ajax Predators for assisting us at this tournament !

Tournament Summary
The Challenge of defending their title had the Ajax Heat back in Niagara Falls for a fun filled weekend. The boys were among 20 teams who came to represent their clubs and hometowns. The Heat finished first in their group after day one and looked forward to a great Sunday. The Heat were matched against Windsor Ciociaro for the quarter finals. The boys mangaged a win after being down 1 -0 until the last few minutes of the game. In overtime the boys found the back of the net to move on the semis. Mother nature had some different plans and the day which started sunny and hot was now under cloudy skies and some thuderstorm activity. As a result of the weather, game play was delayed for over an hour. As play resumed the boys were set for their semi final match against their next opponent. Niagara Falls Blue were equally as tough as the match went scoreless after 40 minutes. The Heat found a way to win and were able to move forward with the Golden Goal victory in overtime. The finals were now set as two Durham teams were in the Championship game. As the sun peeked through the clouds the Heat were ready to go and would not be denied as defending Champions. The Heat broke open the scoring in the first half and refused to look back. Excellent defensive play kept Whitby B off the scoreboard and limited their chances throughout.
