Ajax FC 1996 - Reaches 2011 Ontario Cup Final
The Ajax FC Coaching Staff would like to congratulate the boys for their hard work in making the finals of the u15 Ontario Cup.   Head Coach Alex Bianchi states, "Any time you can make an Ontario Cup final it's quite the accomplishment!".  Following a semi-final win (in penalty shoot-out) over the u14 Ontario Cup Champions Brampton Youth, Ajax FC players were ready to face North York Spartacus.  However, on the day we came up a little short against a very good Spartacus team, and with several key injuries, it was not our year to be Ontario Champions; losing 3-1.  Bianchi further states, "Ajax FC had a much better second half to our season and we look forward to bringing that same momentum into our fall program schedule that already includes a US showcase tournament in North Carolina in December".

Thunder Wins U14 Ontario – Quebec Cup
The Ajax Thunder was the Ontario representative for this year’s Ontario – Quebec Cup in the U14 Boys age group. One team from each province represents each age group with a 2 game series taking place on October 9th & 10th, 2010. This year, the boys played at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, while the girl’s team travelled to Montreal. The Thunder’s opponent was FC Boisbriand. On a brilliant Saturday Fall day, the Thunder won the first match 3 – 2 and everyone knew the day would be a highly contested match. Day two saw a high intensity, extremely fast game with both teams leaving it all on the field. FC Boisbriand grabbed a 1 – 0 lead part way into the first half and took that lead into ½ time. The Thunder came out and continued to press as they did in the first half and were rewarded with 2 goals and held on to secure the lead to the final whistle. Players from both sides received an Ontario – Quebec Cup medallion and the Thunder received the U14 Ontario – Quebec Champion Banner.  A great way to finish off the year boys. The team will now shutdown for a few weeks giving the boys a well deserved break before the start of their winter training program.

HOLLAND TOUR 2010 -- The Ajax Thunder 1996 boys U14 soccer team have better topics to write about when asked what they did on their summer vacation as they return to school.

In addition to clinching first place in the East Division of the OYSL, the boys spent 10 days traveling to Holland in August to play and improve their soccer skills against academy teams from some of the highest ranked Dutch football clubs.

FC Utrecht, based in the city of Utrecht which is about 30 kilometers east of Amsterdam, was the host club for the team. But the inspiration for the trip was the chance for Ajax to play "Ajax" (pronounced I-yax) which is the storied club based in Amsterdam.

The Thunder were treated to first-class training facilities in each of the cities they played at as well as receiving professional training from the FC Utrecht club development coaches. On several occasions the Thunder practised beside the FC Utrecht professional team whom they also watched in Utrecht's successful home opener. The Thunder finished their trip with an impressive two wins and two losses against the Dutch youth squads they faced.

The trip started with a wild 7-5 Thunder victory over the Ajax C2 development team that featured the best striker the team has faced in any competition. The Ajax C2 squad included players a year younger and some the same age as the Thunder.

The team then traveled to Rotterdam where they played two mini-games against the Sparta Rotterdam and AZ C1 squads. C1 teams have players who are the same age and a year older than the Thunder. The Thunder lost to Sparta Rotterdam 1-0 but defeated AZ 2-1.

On their final night in Holland, playing in a light drizzle, the Thunder played a hard first half against the FC Utrecht C1 team but made some mental mistakes in the second half which Utrecht capitalized on to defeat the Thunder 5-1.

"The Dutch National team just made it to the World Cup final and the Dutch are known to have one of the best youth development programs in the world," noted Thunder coach Alex Bianchi. "This is a huge accomplishment for our boys, to come here and play as well as they did against some top teams.

"We may be physically competitive, perhaps even a little bigger and stronger, but the Dutch boys think faster, have superior touches with the ball and move to space better so that they open up the game," explained Bianchi. "I'm trying to teach the Thunder the same approach. It makes for an exciting style of play."

Eighteen Thunder players made the trip including Lucas Alward, Tanner Alward, Javon Brown, Andea Cicciarella, Jonny Codrington, Jake Cooper, Ben Donnelly, Jordan Haynes, Marcus Hudson, Andrew Leroux, Jaden Lewis, Daniel Milton, Ivan Nimtsiv, Andrei Pogan, Brandon Reid, Austin Ricci, Jordan Robertson, and Bayley Winkel. Assistant coaches John Milton and Angelo Ricci plus manager Bob Leroux accompanied the team along with coach Bianchi and "team mom" Debbie Bianchi.

The Thunder are already planning for summer 2011, looking to travel to two major U.S. tournaments including the Surf Cup in San Diego. Tryouts for the team will be held in late September and for more information on the team including trip photos and Youtube videos of most of the team's matches go to www.eteamz.com/ajaxthunder1996.

Holland 2010 Tour – A trip to remember

You always hope that when you plan a trip of this magnitude that it becomes one of those special moments that will be remembered for the rest of your life. Well for 18 players and the 5 members of the coaching staff it was.

The focus was definitely soccer, but the team made time to enjoy some of the wonderful local attractions. The boys had 4 games against Ajax FC (pronounced I-Yack) U13 (won 7-5), Sparta of Rotterdam U14 (lost 1-0), Alkmaar also known as AZ U14 (won 2-1) and Utrecht FC (lost 5-1). “The Dutch first touch and movement off the ball was observed as the biggest difference to the North American game” stated Coach Bianchi, “you really see that soccer sense engraved into their mind of not holding onto to the ball, receive – look – pass – move to space”. The tour also included a training session with Utrecht FC staff development coaches. The Utrecht facility was unbelievable – a world class facility. On a couple of occasions it was impressive to watch the boys training on one field, while on the field next to them, was the Utrecht FC professional team.  The boys also had the opportunity to watch Utrecht FC 1st team play their home opener verses FC Breda during the trip.

Some of our local site-seeing included a leisure day at De Efteling Amusement Park, shopping trips to Utrecht and Amsterdam and what would a trip to Holland be without a canal trip in Amsterdam. Lots of memorable stories and lots of laughs made every day very special.

Holland is a beautiful country that was enjoyed by all players, coaching staff and the 16 family members that made the trip. A special thank-you is extended to Arie Van Wijhe of Utrecht FC who was the team sponsor during the trip.

2010 Barrie Spiritfest U15 Winners

Thunder wins Barrie Spiritfest 2010 Tournament
With a lack of games in the early part of the 2010 summer schedule the coaching staff decided on short notice to enter the boys into a tournament. The coaching staff also decided to play them up an age group. The boys played 5 solid games scoring 19 goals while only giving up 2 goals in winning the U15 Division. Fields were good but the weather was all over the place in terms of sunshine to rain storms. Overall a good weekend.

Thunder Travel to Ohio to Play the U14 Ambassador FC
On Sunday December 27, 2009, the Thunder travelled to Geneva, Ohio to play a friendly against the Ambassador FC U14 Boys. The Ambassador U14 team is ranked #1 in North Ohio, with a US regional ranking of 15 in Region #2. The Thunder Players, Coaching Staff and parents were graciously treated to a dinner reception by the Ambassador parents at the Willoughby Community Center. The Thunder boys were billeted by the Ambassador boys for the night and this was a first for almost all these players on both teams and this turned out to be a huge success. After a great meal and some wonderful socializing the boys left for the evening with their new friends. On Monday December 28, 2009 the game was held at the GaREAT Sports complex in Geneva. The facility was very impressive and the full size indoor field was a great venue for the game. The Thunder Coaching Staff was looking forward to this game as it would be the first time that we would have all 2009/2010 Thunder players together (6 Provincial Players released back to the team for the Christmas Break and 5 new players playing with the team for the first time).  The game was very entertaining with the Thunder coming out ahead 2-1 with goals by Javon Brown and Jake Cooper. This was a great experience for both teams and we are sure some friendships have started that we all hope we can build on. The Thunder is hoping to reciprocate the Ambassador generosity and have them in Ajax in the near future.

Thunder GK on Trial in UK
Ajax Thunder goalkeeper Daniel Milton just returned home from a one week trial with Birmingham City FC of the English Premier League.  The week trial included training sessions with the u14 academy team as well as two games, one against Coventry City (4-1 win) and a second verses Derby County that was unfortunately rained out due to bad weather.  While at the Birmingham training grounds, Daniel had the pleasure of meeting 1st team manager Alex McLeish and starting goalkeeper Joe Hart.  Overall Daniel had a very good experience while in England and this resulted in both signing with an FA approved agent and being asked back to Birmingham City FC.

Six Thunder Players on Ontario U14 Provincial Squad
The Ajax Thunder is very proud of their six players that are in the Ontario Provincial U14 Boys training team. Congratulations to Daniel Milton (Keeper), Javon Brown (Striker), Jordan Haynes (Midfielder/Defender), Jaden Lewis (Midfielder),  Brandon Reid (Defender) and Bayley Winkel (Midfielder) for making the squad of 27 players. The Thunder team has the largest representation of players of any single team on the Provincial Squad. “We’re proud of the boys for making the team” stated Coach Bianchi. It does, however, create a challenge for the team in that they loose these players for virtually the entire fall/winter training season. The Thunder (as well as other teams with players on this squad) are not allowed access to these players until the end of April and must be ready to go as a unit by mid May. Coach Bianchi continues in saying “The Provincial system is what it is. We’re not the first team that has had lots of players on the team and we won’t be the last, so we will do what we have to do and will be ready when the season starts in May”. Of the 27 players training for the Provincial Team, 18-20 will be selected to compete at the National Championship for Ontario in July 2010.uly 2010.

Ajax Thunder 2009 Under 13 Boys Provincial Champions
With mother nature treating us to brilliant weather and ideal playing conditions, the Ajax Thunder capped off their season by defeating Richmond Hill 4 -2 and were crowned the Under 13 Provincial Champions for 2009. In a highly entertaining game, the two teams put on quite a display for all the spectators.  Ajax struck early when Javon Brown finished on a nice through ball by Lucas Tanner. The Thunder had a couple of more good scoring opportunities in the first half but could not capitalize and took a 1 -0 lead into the half. Richmond Hill started the second half with plenty of energy and kept Ajax under some sustained pressure. Richmond Hill tied the game about 12 minutes into the half and followed up with a second goal to take the lead 2 -1. The lead however did not last long as the Thunder quickly came back down the field and Jordan Haynes tied the game. Minutes later, Ajax took the lead when Andre Pogan blasted the ball into the net on a lovely crossed ball by Jordan Haynes. Ajax doubled their lead when Javon Brown got his second goal of the match. Coach Bianchi commented that, "the boys showed maturity and poise by not panicking when Richmond Hill took the lead. Everyone knew what they had to do and they went after it. This is a good group of boys that worked very hard this year, they played as a team and for each other and have entertained us to some very nice soccer all year.”

Thunder Wins League & League Cup
With a 4-1 win over Markham on Monday September 7th the Thunder clinched first place in the Central Soccer League with a game still remaining in their league schedule. The Thunder followed up with a 5-1 win over Darlington on Monday September 14th to finish the season with 11 wins, 2 ties and 1 loss for 35 points. The team scored 46 goals and gave up a meager 9 goals in the 14 game season. By finishing in the top 4 of the CSL Level 3 in U13 division, the Thunder will be granted promotion into the Ontario Youth Soccer League (OYSL), which is considered by many as the most competitive Youth Soccer League in all of Canada. Twelve teams from across Ontario have won the right to participate in this very challenging and demanding league for 2010.
On Saturday September 12th at the Ontario Soccer Centre the Thunder defeated the Richmond Hill Raiders 1-0 to win the CSL League Cup. Along the way the Thunder defeated Unionville 9-0, Glen Shields 3-1, Whitby 6-0 and Markham 4-0. The game with Richmond Hill was hard fought with Richmond Hill putting lots of pressure on the Thunder for most of the first half with Thunder keeper Daniel Milton making a couple of big saves. Despite the first half pressure the Thunder were able to grab a goal on a free kick when defender Marcus Hudson followed in on a loose ball and found the back of the net. The Thunder played a very disciplined second half not allowing Richmond Hill any good scoring opportunities while creating some good chances at the opposite end for themselves.
Next up for the Thunder is the Ontario Cup Final on Saturday September 19th at 10 am at the OSA Centre in Vaughan on the turf field. Their opponents will once again be the Richmond Hill Raiders and it should be an exciting game.

Sunday, August 30
Thunder Wins Semi-Final Game of Ontario Cup
On Saturday August 29, 2009, the Ajax Thunder travelled to Esther Shiner Stadium in North York for an Ontario Cup semi-final game against Oakville. The artificial turf made for a fast game that suited the Thunder. It did not take long for the Thunder to strike, with Javon Brown showing the way at about the 10 minute mark. The team followed up with 2 more goals in the first half and added 4 more in the second half for a 7 – 0 win. Goal scores were: Javon Brown (2), Ivan Nimtsiv (2), Jordan Haynes, Jake Cooper and Andrei Pogan. The final for the U13 Ontario Cup championship is set for Saturday September 19, 2009 at 10 am at the Ontario Soccer Association Soccer Centre in Vaughan. The Ajax Thunder will be facing the Richmond Hill Raiders who were the U12 Ontario Champions last season.

Thunder Wins Quarter Final Game of Ontario Cup
On Saturday August 15, 2009, the Ajax Thunder traveled to Brampton for their Quarter Final match against a very good Brampton Blast team. Mother Nature also wanted to be part of the show with summer finally arriving in the Toronto area with the temperature hovering around 30 C (86 F) plus humidity at game time. Brampton came out very hard, putting early pressure on Ajax and were rewarded about 20 minutes into the game with a goal and went into half time with a 1-0 lead. With the momentum slightly swinging towards Ajax in the second half, Striker Javon Brown who 5 minutes earlier had been robbed of a goal by the Brampton Full Back as the ball was going into the net, tied the game for Ajax. With just over 10 minutes to go Ajax took the lead with an outstanding shot from the top of the 18 by Mid-Fielder Jake Cooper. Brampton made a final push with 5 minutes to go and an great save by the Ajax Keeper Daniel Milton in extra time preserved the win. It was an evenly fought game with both sides having chances. The referring crew was very good allowing the game to be decided by the two sides.

Ajax now moves onto the semi finals against Oakville on Saturday August 29th at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York at 11 a.m.

2007 Ajax Thunder Season Summary
2007 Robbie Tournament Winners

The Ajax Thunder Under 11 Boys’ Soccer Team almost recreated their 2004 perfect season of 16 wins, 0 losses and 0 ties. Almost - their 0-0 tie in their second-to-last league game this year, gives them something to work on for next year. Thunder finished their first season in Division 1 of the Central East Soccer League with a record of 15 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie.

“The boys worked very hard,” said Head Coach Justin Terry. “To be undefeated in this division is something we’re very proud of.”

And proud they should be. For those keeping track, in their 16-game season, the team gave up only 8 goals, and they scored a division-high of 53 goals in league play.

Then they managed to capture both the Cup and League Championships for the year as well, just to make their parents happy.

Outside the league, the Thunder was undefeated in capturing championships in three tournaments this season: the West Niagara Invitational, Ottawa’s Kickin’ in the Capital, and the coveted Robbie International. That’s pretty impressive!

But, with the year’s accomplishments behind them, the Thunder already has its sights on what the future will bring. As a team that has never rested on its laurels, the boys are looking ahead to new challenges. The first one is that next season the team will move up to playing on full fields in 11 versus 11 matches in the Central Soccer League - Level 3.

The Ajax Thunder Under 11 Boys are Javon Brown, Tristan Caulfield, Ben Donnelly, George Douros, David Hoggar, Marcus Hudson, Andrew Leroux, Daniel Milton, Isiah Passley, Andrei Pogan, Jordan Robertson, Elijah Steven, Malek Terry, and Isaiah Wilson.

John Milton and Valentine Anozie serve as Assistant Coaches for the team, and Tracey Leroux, Craig Donnelly and Lizanne Pape support the team as managers.
