Just starting to play tennis. Can self rally, self feed and serve underhand but lacks consistency in ground stroke rallies. Can name the lines of the court. Knows how to play a match game and keep score. |

Able to retrieve most shots. Can satisfy speed & agility tests for this level. |
Can occasionally rally 4-5 balls in a row using forehand and/or backhand strokes. |
Can serve overhead but must use underhand second serve to stop double faulting. Can occasionally return serves. |
Can occasionally volley and hit overheads. Is uneasy at the net. |
Can play full court tennis matches, singles & doubles. |

ORANGE (3.0) |
Moves to ball using good footwork and positioning. Can satisfy speed & agility tests for this level. |
Can consistently rally 10+ balls in a row using a forehand and/or backhand stoke. |
Full motion on both serves, able to achieve more than 50% success on first serve. Can control the direction of the ball on return of serves. |
Can consistently hit forehand volleys and easy overheads. Has difficult on backhand volleys and low or wide balls. Can win points at the net. |
Can play singles, beginning to win points offensively. |

PURPLE (3.5) |
Excellent footwork on all shots for good body position. Can satisfy speed & agility tests for this level. |
Can rally and occasionally win points using direction and pace. Can execute approach shots with some success. |
Can serve with pace (20% success). Can vary speed and direction of both serves to avoid double faults. Can return fast or well placed serves with defensive action. |
Can direct forehand volleys and control backhand volleys with little pace. Can handle all volleys and overheads that require moderate movement. |
Can play on an STF Team. Primarily a second unit player. |

GREEN (4.0) |
Fast feet for excellent body position on most shots. Can satisfy speed & agility tests for this level. |
Can rally and win points with direction and pace regularly. Starting to develop combination of shots. Can execute approach shots for winners. |
Can serve with pace and placement (50%). Has reliable spin second serve. Difficulties in returning very fast balls or extreme spin serve. Can attack easy second serve with depth and placement. |
Comfortable at the net can drive forehand volleys and place backhand volleys. Capable of putting away most overheads near the net with pace and placement. |
Can play on an STF Team. First string player. |

BLUE (4.5) |
Quick feet for exceptional body position on all shots. Can satisfy speed & agility tests for this level. |
Can rally aggressively with pace and direction. Can use a variety of spins. Developing a dominant shot or good steadiness. |
Aggressive first serves with power and spin. Good depth and placement on second serve. Can serve & volley with some success. Can defend first serve returns consistently. |
Can volley from mid court with depth and placement. Can finish the point at the net with a drop shot, angle volley or punch volley. Capable of putting away all overheads near the net. |
Competes in OTA Tournaments occasionally winning the first round. |

RED (5.0) |
Explosive jump on every stroke, able to track down balls with superior body position for returns or attacking shots. |
Has developed a consistent style of play. Very steady stokes and/or a dominant shot. Can occasionally hit offensive winners from the backcourt. |
Can win points on first serves. Good pace and spin on second serves. Can serve & volley consistently. Periodically succeeds at aggressive return of first serves. Punishes weak second serves. |
Can volley with pace and control from both forehand and backhand side. Can hit overheads from any position. |
Competes in OTA Tournaments, regularly getting to the second round. |
