BREAKING NEWS FROM ABINGTON LITTLE LEAGUE ABINGTON LITTLE LEAGUE ANNOUNCES PLANS TO REORGANIZE DIVISIONS OF PLAY FOR THE 2012 SEASON August xx, 2011, Abington, MA -- Abington Little League today announced that beginning in the 2012 season, the divisions of play will be reorganized with the goal of improving play at all age levels, and to continue to provide a positive baseball experience for the youth of Abington. Beginning in the spring of 2012, Abington Little League divisions of play will be as follows:· Six year old divisiono No Change· Seven year old division o Formerly seven and eight year old division· Eight and Nine Year Old Division o Formerly nine’s and undrafted ten’s· Minor Leagues: All undrafted players ages ten, eleven and twelve o Formerly undrafted eleven and twelve year olds who opted out of the major league draft· Major Leagues: All drafted players ages ten, eleven and twelve o All twelve year old players who try-out for the Major Leagues will be drafted, per Little League Rules, unless they “opt” out.o Previously, all major league teams were required to draft two 10 year old players – that requirement is no longer in effect. Ten year old players may still be drafted, but it is not required for two to be selected by each team. “The previous alignment of divisions has worked well for us over the past several years,” said Bob Dursin, president, Abington Little League Board of Directors. “But after careful consideration, the Board voted unanimously to restructure beginning in the 2012 season. Many factors were considered when making this decision and we believe that the change is a move in the right direction for all levels of play,” added Dursin. About Abington Little LeagueThe objective of the Abington Little League shall be to implant firmly in the children of the town the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, respect for authority, baseball skills, and a love for the game so that they may be well adjusted, stronger and happier children and will grow to be good, decent, healthy and trustworthy citizens with an understanding of and interest in baseball.
