Lucy DiMarzio

Age: 70

When did you begin racewalking? I began racewalking in my early 40s. I answered an ad in the newspaper that offered walking on Saturday mornings. The only thing I was doing at the time was Kundalini Yoga and I felt I needed more exercise. I have worked with various trainers, learned a lot and consider some of my fellow racewalkers my very good friends.

Describe your training: My training for the Senior Games has consisted of Distance and Tempo training one or two times a week and three miles of moderate racewalking on the other days, with one day of rest. I also work out at the health club three times a week, one of those times with a personal trainer. I also have started taking Zumba classes at the health club. These classes are a lot of fun and I take them three or four times a week.

What does your diet consist of...? My diet is vegetarian and has remained basically the same. I have added more protein, potassium, salt and Ola Loa sports drink to my diet.

What is your favorite racing event? I have participated in the Senior Games five times and they are always exciting. It is especially rewarding to be in the company of so many healthy and happy Seniors who are active in a variety of sports.
