Region Teams

17/18 combo team (will compete in the AZ Region, Fiesta, and play in the Las Vegas Invitational and possibly AZ Region NQ and after season tournament)

15/16 Region team will be filled on a needed basis

AZ Sky will hold a two day tryout process for all Open and National teams ages 15-18s. Players receiving an offer on day 1 will have the option to return on Day 2 to be with their potential teammates. Players that do not receive an offer on Day 2 are encouraged to stay for Regional team tryouts. Day 3 will be used to fill needed positions and for players new to AZ Sky to come in and sign their contract, commitment letter, make initial payment and attend uniform fitting.  Offers may be made Day 1; all other offers will be made Day 2.  Players interested in trying out for a 15/16 or 17/18s region team will come on Day 2 from 7:30-9:30pm. Uniform fitting for 15-18s will be on the 17th from 9-11am. AZ Sky supports all players' right to attend other club tryouts throughout the 3 day process per AZ Region rules.

Day 1: November 15th

All players are to arrive at least 30 minutes early to check in, receive tryout t-shirt and have their stats taken (Height, Approach, Block, Reach). Players will be evaluated/measured on their dominant position and overall skill set. Players that are screened out can come back on Day 2 for Regional team tryouts. Teams will be selected on Day 1 and Day 2. Offers can be made Day 1. Players offered positions that are not from AZ Sky can only verbally commit on Day 1 or Day 2.

17/18s: 4-5:30 (screen 20-22 players)

15s: 5:30-7:30 (screen 34-42 players)

16s: 7:30-9:30 (screen 30-32 players)

Day 2: November 16th

All players not selected for a team Day 1 are invited back on Day 2 to fill open positions on Open/National teams. Please arrive 30 minutes early to warm up. (Wear your tryout t-shirt.) All teams will be announced and all players accepting offers will either verbally commit (new to AZ Sky) or sign their contract/commitment form/pay initial payment.

17/18s: 4-5:30

15/16s: 5:30-7:30

Region 15 and 16 and 17/18 combo team: 7:30-9:30

All players from Day 1 or Day 2 that did not make an open/national team are invited to attend region tryouts. All players wanting to try out for a region team need to arrive no later than 7pm to receive their t-shirt and have their stats taken.

Day 3: November 17th

8-9:00am: Players new to AZ Sky need to sign contracts/letter of commitment/and make initial payment

9-11:00am: tryouts for any needed positions 15-18s

8-11:00am: Uniform fitting for all 15-18s teams

Our goal is to field open/national teams with 10 players & a maximum of 12. All players will have a role on the team.

2013 Age Waiver if needed. Players with waivers granted by the region, cannot be rosters on an open or national team, they can only play regional tournaments in Arizona. The region is not granting as many waivers this year and encourages athletes to play their age.

Included is the master practice and tournament schedules for all teams.

• Check or Cash for tryout fee of $25; this includes a tryout t-shirt. Any player returning on the 2^nd or 3^rd day need to wear the same shirt and will not pay a tryout fee again.
• Age waiver forms if needed (the AZ Region is not granting as many waivers because they want athletes to play their age. National teams cannot have waivered players on their rosters.)

• Both national and regional players are welcomed by Mary Beth Svorinic, (Club Director) She will go over procedures and expectations for tryouts.
• Lead Coaches running the courts will explain drills to be used in the evaluation process
• All players will go through skill assessments and will be stated, evaluated and screened
• Player skill assessments are totaled and players are screened out at this time, leaving the top 20 players for the two national/travel teams. National coaches may select a player that came to tryout for a regional team but permission will be asked of parents before continuing game like drills. Players that do not make a National team, are invited to stay and tryout for Regional team.
• Regional players will have 30 minutes to get water and a snack before finishing the tryout session. National coaches may still select players from the regional group if a player declines an offer or if they are still looking for a specific talent set not seen in the top 20 players originally screened out.
• The national players go into game like drills and coaches will select their teams
• Both National team rosters will be announced at the same time and will meet with their coaches to go over team expectations, travel schedule, handbook and post season goals. They will then receive an offer. National teams will head upstairs to turn in commitment forms when applicable.
• Regional teams will go into game like drills as soon as national teams are selected and go upstairs.
• Regional team rosters will be announced at the same time and will meet with their coaches to go over team expectations, handbook and goals for the season.
• Open/National teams will select 10 players maximum, Regional teams will select 11 players maximum. If players decline we will fill positions on day 2 and day 3.
• Players not receiving an offer on November 1st are welcome to come back for tryouts on Day 2 and Day 3
