Gilbert National East will play Arcadia tomorrow at Mark Grace Field, 4:00PM. Arrowhead will face Coronado tomorrow at 7:00PM also at Mark Grace Field. SENIORS REGIONAL (Salem, OR; August 8, 2006): Mountain View's Fantastic Tournament Run Ends As is often the case at this level of play, games are decided by the slightest of margins. Mountain View Little League lost 2-0 to Pearl City Little League of Hawaii in the championship game. Tommy Rowland and Riley Welch gave up just 4 hits but a single run in the bottom of the third was enough for the Islanders to win. MVLL managed just 3 hits tonight. Although there must be considerable disappointment at this point, with time and perspective the level of achievement that this team attained will be remembered. This is the farthest a District #6 Senior Baseball team has ever gone. Congratulations to the entire team, the coaching staff, the parents, and the league for a wonderful run. The following is the recap from Full Access Sports: Hawaii edges Arizona: Pearl City returns to Senior World Series with 2-0 win Only seven hits were recorded by Hawaii and Arizona in the 2006 Little League Senior Baseball Western Regional Championship Game, but Hawaii made the most of their opportunities to return to the Senior World Series later this week in Bangor, Maine. The Pearl City Seniors scored runs in the third and fifth inning, while starting pitcher Bryson Nakamura scattered three Arizona hits to propel the team to a 2-0 victory over Mountain View Little League of Scottsdale, Arizona. Arizona actually had the first opportunity to score, loading the bases in the top of the third with a one out single by Jason Boninger, a bunt by Dan Sotelo and another base hit by Cam Boysen. With two outs, Nakamura got the next batter to ground out to shortstop Ryno Acosta to end the threat. Hawaii responded in their half of the third. Kurt Poentis hit a lead off single to left field, followed by a bunt single by Rorry Nakayama. A passed ball allowed both runners to move up, and a sacrifice fly by Acosta brought Nakayama home for a 1-0 lead. The only other run of the game came in the fifth inning. Nakayama doubled with one out and then stole third. He came home to score for the second time in the game on a sacrifice fly to right field by Acosta. Nakamura did his job on the mound for Hawaii the rest of the way, limiting Arizona to the minimum three batters in the last four innings. Hawaii's defensive effort overshadowed a fine performance by Arizona's defense. Pitchers Tommy Rowland and Riley Welch combined to allow just four hits. The Senior Baseball World Series begins August 13 in Bangor, Maine. Hawaii placed second in the U.S. portion of the tournament last year. |
