10-years of excellence:

This is our 10th year of existence. Established in 2000, AZ District 13 began play in 2001. And we've done fairly well . . . with several AZ State championships, 4-Little League Western Regional appearances and 3-Little League World Series appearances. All that in 9-short years.

Our success is a direct result of the tireless efforts of our local League volunteers. We know it's about the kids ". . . building leaders and teamwork skills . . . and building character". We're always looking for volunteers to help with upcoming seasons - so, come on over, jump on the wagon & enjoy the great organization that is Little League Baseball & AZ District 13.

Our success for this years 2010 AZ District 13 tournament was a result of the hard work of our volunteer staff. We couldn't have done it without loyal, determined & caring folk who pitch in without hesitation.  I can't express enough the importance of a solid, loyal core volunteer group.

I am deeply appreciative of your help & support.  Thanks! And a tip-of-the-cap in salute. Another successful AZ 13 District Tournament. See you next year.

After thoughts: the City of Tempe came through again. From my view the Tempe Sports Complex venue is picture-perfect. Thanks to Shane Isabel, the park-staff, maintenance crew and City of Tempe for a  job well done at TSC.

And what can be said of the fields at Tempe Diablos, our JRs Tourney site? Just awesome. A heartfelt thanks to City Diablos manager Jerry Hall, the field crew and 'Thomas' our day to day contact. Please know, the Leagues of AZ District 13 are appreciative of our long-term relationship & cooperation.  We can't do it without you.

A bunch of thank-yous . . . . .

Please give all our tourney volunteers a sincere 'thank you' - you know, the guys & gals who raked, watered, chalked, kept score, counted pitches & announced.

Our host again, Tempe South L. L. did a great job - thanks Mark  & League members I can't remember. Especially Dan (last name ukn) who really demonstrated a volunteer's true grit. Dan, you out worked every one.

Tom Blodgett, Tempe Rio Salado, stepped in several times to assist not only at TSC but also at Diablos. And Freddy Cota, Tempe-Guadalupe, offered relief at Diablos.  And the folk from TGLL always offer, without hesitation, to score, announce or count. Awesome stuff.

A special thank you to Greg from TSLL who, after his 1st gig, willingly offers to announce & does a great job - he just does his thing.

A hearty thank-you to District Staff: Becky Reed, Terry Gerson, Kendra Reed, Val Gerson, Heather Church, Lawrence Vega, our District umpires, those 'raffle' kids and the countless volunteers I don't know or can't remember - you all rock.  We'll see you down the road. Have a safe summer.

Sectionals & State Finals ?

About AZ LL Sectionals & State Tournaments:

In an effort to assist Leagues cut down on travel expenses . . the AZ District Administrators Association voted to create two sectionals (north & south) prior to State Champions.  Those Little League levels containing more than 11-district winning teams will play in a sectional.

Sectional winners advance to play in the State Finals/Championship. At the designated North or South site.

AZ District 13 is in the North Sectionals(?).

Ahwatukee Little League returns home Monday, Aug. 28, 2006 from the Little League World Series.

- A 'dawg' story as told by Mgr. Tom Kingery: a few years back as the then 9/10-year old All-Stars were practicing & a stray dog wandered onto the practice field. As some of the kids tried to shoo him off the field the stray thought this was fun. So, he began to 'play' by barking & running with the kids. Soon, all the kids were running after him - laughing, giggling & barking. Thus the DAWGS came to be.

- Did you Know?  Manager Tom Kingery received the 'Ed & Charlotte Fish' award as the West Region manager who best exemplifies the qualities & virtues of a Little League manager. The award is voted on by his West Region Tournament managers. Congrats to Tom, Rich & the kids - they all did an awesome job!
