Points of Emphasis for Referees
    1. Fill out the game cards accurately and completely, including quarters not played and all sportsmanship categories. Fulfilling this portion of referee duties is important to the success of our program for our children.

    2. Call fouls, especially when safety (player falling down) and fun (painful elbowing/kicking) is at stake. When safety is at stake (collision with players falling down), make your best call rather than allow unsafe play to continue without consequence.

    3. Blow your whistle loudly and sharply to stop play.

    4. Do not handle ball. Teach the players how to handle ball for restarts. Only time referee should handle ball is for drop ball.

    5. Stop play immediately for player injury especially if play is continuing near injured player. If in doubt, stop play.

    6. On goal kicks, attacking team should not enter penalty area (big semi-circle or big rectangle) until ball completely leaves penalty area, defending team can be in penalty area and no player other than player taking goal kick should touch ball until ball completely leaves penalty area.

    7. U-6/U-8 referees should review the U-6/U-8 guidelines posted below. All others should review the Laws of the Game and age group guidelines posted below.
