Can I coach a team?
All volunteers are welcome provided that they complete a Volunteer Application form and pass a background check processed by AYSO National. Volunteers need not be parents; any interested adult may volunteer. AYSO requires that all new coaches attend a coachs clinic and become Safe Haven Certified. AYSO will provide this clinic free of charge before the start of each season. Please contact our Coach Administrator, Kristie Hemgesber, at (989) 845-7868, for more information on coaching opportunities. Who will officiate the games? Because AYSO is a 100% VOLUNTEER organization our referee pool will come from within the teams and our community. Without enough referees, our kids can't play soccer, so please considering becoming a referee! You may volunteer to ref as many or as few games as you wish each season. Volunteers need no experience and will be trained by a certified referee instructor. There is no charge to the volunteer to attend the Referee Clinic. A Referee Clinic will be offered before the start of each season. In addition to adult volunteers, our region also uses youth referees. The referees are 12 years or older and complete the same training as the adults. Please contact Our Regional Referee Administrator, Ann Drzewiecki, at (810) 638-5834 to learn more about referee opportunities. *All volunteers must submit a Volunteer Application form each season. Do I HAVE to be Safe Haven Certified to volunteer with AYSO? Yes. ALL coaches and referees MUST attend our Safe Haven program which is offered at all coach and referee clinics. What IS Safe Haven? Safe Haven is a child and volunteer protection program that was the first of its kind in youth sports. The child protection aspect is intended to stop child abuse, educate or remove its perpetrators, and screen out predators before they get into the program. It includes proactive steps which provide a medium for positive, healthy child development. Volunteer protection comes in to play as a result of volunteer training, certification and continuing education. The Volunteer Protection Act of 1997 provides certain legal protections for volunteers who have been trained and certified, and act in accordance with a written job description. Safe Haven has these three elements, giving volunteers the highest degree of protection available under the law. Safety First The Regional Commissioner and members of the board of directors are committed to providing a safe and fun soccer environment for our players, coaches, referees and volunteers. Please look under the "Equipment" section in the "Parent and Player Info" area to see what equipment is required and what items aren't allowed allowed at games or practices. If a child or volunteer is injured at a game or practice, please notify your coach immediately He or she will file a report with our Safety Director, Karolyn Sandoval. We at Region 1155 welcome your comments and suggestions. Feel free to email any of the Board Members by clicking on "Board" to your left and then on the Board Member of your choice or send your e-mail to soccerboard@NewLothropAYSOsoccer.org . Does AYSO have league insurance for players and volunteers? Included in your AYSO registration fee is Soccer Accident Insurance (SAI). Insurance pamphlets are available at registration or from our Safety Director, Karolyn Sandoval (810) 496-4622. Please read your insurance pamphlet VERY carefully. There is a $200 deductible on the insurance. If you have health insurance, your primary insurance pays first, then after your league deductible, the league insurance pays other out of pocket expenses such as co-pays. Parent's Pledge I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches and officials at every game and/or practice. I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of any personal desire to win. I will do my best to make soccer fun for my child. I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches and fans with respect. Does AYSO provide team pictures? Does AYSO have fundraisers? In an effort to keep registration fees low, there are ocassional fundraisers. Participation is optional, but we appreciate your support. If you have fundraising ideas or would like to help, please contact any Board Member. Registration Fees and Refunds The registration fee and refund policy for Region 1155 is fixed annually by the Regional Board. The registration fee will be fully refunded to any player if the request is received in writing before team formation is complete. Refund requests made after the teams are formed will be sent at the end of the season, less the National fee and the uniform expense. What does my registration fee cover? Player fees pay for the following: player uniforms, player fees to AYSO National, player and volunteer medical insurance, liability insurance, equipment and supplies needed for teams and fields, referee uniforms, player recognition awards, volunteer recognition, player and volunteer subscriptions to "Soccer Now" magazine, as well as training for coaches, referees, and board members. |
