Introduction to AYSO and AYSO Philosophies
The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is a nationwide non-profit organization that develops and delivers quality youth soccer programs in a fun, family environment based on AYSOs five philosophies: * Everyone Plays - Our program's goal is for kids to play soccer - so we mandate that each player on every team play at least half of every game. * Open Registration - AYSO has sign-ups, not try-outs. Our program is open to all children between 4 and 19 years of age who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing. * Balanced Teams - Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possiblebecause it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play. * Positive Coaching - AYSO Believes in building soccer skills and self-worth through encouragement and teaching. Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment by the players and ultimately leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players. * Good Sportsmanship - AYSO has active programs to promote positive behavior on the field and on the sidelines. We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO. There are currently over 650,000 players and 250,000 volunteers active in AYSO. AYSO Structure The AYSO's goal is "... to educate and develop young people by encouraging their interest and participation in soccer through its Everyone Plays, Open Registration, Balanced Teams, Good Sportsmanship and Positive Coaching concepts."
