Regional Referee Class: August 14 and 16th
We need you!!  To ensure safe, fair, and fun games for all of our players, we need trained referees.   New Lothrop will host a referee class from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. on August 14 and 16th at the New Lothrop Nazarene Community Center.  Referee candidates must attend both nights to receive their certification.

No soccer experience is necessary - we start right from scratch so lack of experience is no excuse not to volunteer!  If, after taking the course, you decide that ref'ing is definitely not for you, just let us know.  We will not force anyone into a uniform and onto a field - honest.

Coaches -  Please consider attending this class.  You will be much more comfortable and confident in your coach role once you really understand the game and its rules.  Again, just because you're trained does not mean we'll force you into a referee unform.  Coaches are encouraged to attend to elevate their understanding of the game!

The class is open to anyone 12 years or older.  Volunteering for our non-profit organization counts as community service for school, National Honor Society, and Scouts.  Youths currently officiate most of our U8 and some of our U10 and U12/U14 games.  It would benefit our players greatly if we could get some more adult referees on the field.  Please seriously consider attending this class.  The more referees we have, the fewer number of games we each have to officiate!

Many other regions in our area will also be offering referee classes prior to the fall season.  If you're interested and can't make our class, please call us and we'll look for a class for you!

To register or for more information, call our Referee Administrator, Ann Drzewiecki, at (810) 638-5834 or our Regional Commissioner (and Referee Instructor), Sharlene Timmons, (810) 638-5572.

New Lothrop Referees volunteer at AYSO Section Tournament
2007 Section 8 Tournament
2007 AYSO Section 8 Tournament
Ann Drzewiecki, Lauren Timmons, Tabbitha Duncan, and Sharlene Timmons joined the nearly 100 referees that volunteered to officiate the Section 8 Tournament games June 15th, 16th, and 17th.  This year's Section Tournament was hosted by Clio, Michigan.  110 teams from throughout Michigan and Indiana participated in this year's event. Despite the 90-plus degree weather, the referees enjoyed their weekend of soccer and the opportunity to work with and learn from Advanced and Nationally Certified referees.

The Tournament Committee took good care of the all-volunteer referee staff all weekend, providing food, lots of water and gatorade, and thank you gifts.  In addition, the youth referees received an AYSO duffle bag filled with ref "must haves" such as flags, game card folders, and game coins.

Area G Referee Camp Held in New Lothrop
New Lothrop's AYSO Region 1155 hosted the Area G Spring Referee Camp on March 31st at the New Lothrop High School.  Thirty four volunteers from Holly, Grand Blanc, Fenton, Swartz Creek, Carman Ainsworth, Montrose, Flushing, and Birch Run attended the all-day event.  Training for both Basic and Intermediate Referee certifications were offered. Instruction was provided by seven AYSO Referee Instructors from Fenton, Swartz Creek, Flushing and New Lothrop.

New Lothrop's Tabbitha Duncan completed the 8 hour Basic course and passed the required exam.  She is now our region's newest youth referee -- congratulations Tabbi!

Region 1155 board members and volunteers offer a big thank you to New Lothrop High School administration and staff for providing the facilities for this event.

If you're interested in learning to ref -- or if you're a coach interested in learning more about the game -- contact Ann Drzewiecki (810-638-5834) or Sharlene Timmons (810-638-5572) to see when and where other AYSO referee courses will be offered.
