Spring '09 Home Games?

The New Lothrop Soccer Board determined at its November Board meeting that U10, U12, and U14 teams will not be able to host home games in Spring of '09 unless we get six to eight new adult volunteer referees.

If you are a certified referee and miss those kids, please consider coming back to join us for a couple games this spring.  We'd love to invite you to our March pre-season meeting to go over old and new rules (cinnamon rolls included)!

If you have never ref'd a game, but would like to see our New Lothrop kids get their home games, please call us.  Training will be offered in New Lothrop and surrounding communities in February and March and I'm sure we can find a class that meets your busy schedule.  Our training starts from scratch - no experience necessary, honest!

Monday, March 2
"Yikes, I forgot to sign my child up for Spring Soccer!!"

This is the final week for Spring Sign-up.  After 3/14, players will be accepted on an 'as available' basis only.

No experience is necessary - our program is open to all children!

The registration fee for the spring season is $50 and includes jersey, shorts, socks, 8 games, AYSO-certified coaches, and player insurance (it's a better deal to play the entire year).  Please make checks payable to "AYSO Region 1155".  Note that there may be an additional charge of $7 to cover shipping charges for uniforms for late registrations.

Hard-copy registration forms are available in the elementary school office or from Sarah Wheeler.  However, it's easiest to pre-register on-line at www.eayso.org.  Just print and sign two copies and mail them with your check to our registrar, Sarah Wheeler:  9198 Sheridan Road, New Lothrop, MI  48460.

All children who are 4 years old as 4/01/08 are eligible to play.

Questions?  Contact our registrar, Sarah Wheeler at (810) 638-5344 or our Regional Commissioner, Sharlene Timmons at (810) 638-5572.

"I haven't heard from my child's coach yet!"

Coaches will receive their rosters at the March coach meeting and will contact their players at their earliest convenience. Unfortunately, coaching is not usually convenient for anyone so bear with the coaches while they rearrange their schedules for spring soccer. Meanwhile, be sure your kids know where their shinguards are so they're ready to play!

Registration Glitch Corrected - Please pre-register on eAYSO now!

Having difficulty pre-registering on eAYSO.org??  It was a computer problem caused, as usual, by human error, not the computer (your Regional Commissioner can not apologize enough!).

The error is now corrected and we're a little late getting fall teams formed so we can order uniforms and train coaches.

Please log onto eAYSO.org and pre-register you child today!  If you have any questions, call our registrar, Sarah Wheeler, at (810) 638- 5344.

New Lothrop U14 Team in Fenton Tournament
U14 Team at Fenton June 7th
U14 Team at 2008 Fenton Tournament

New Lothrop's U12/U14 team participated in Fenton AYSO's post-season tournament June 6th and 7th. The players knew their young co-ed team would be in for some tough competition on the U14 boys' schedule, but went in with a good attitude and had a lot of fun playing a lot of soccer. Though they didn't make it to the Sunday championship game, they played some great soccer, giving up only 11 goals in four games and, unfortunately, having many of their shots on goal stopped by some tough goal keeping by their opponents. The team and family members socialized and snacked in the shade of the team tent between games. The team also played the U14 boys' schedule during the regular season and finished with a winning record. Great season team!

Next year we hope to have enough players for separate U12 and U14 teams. There is also interest in a U16 team (for those players who were 14, but not yet 16 years old by July 31, 2008). If you are interested in these spring-only teams, please contact Sharlene Timmons (810-638-5572).

AYSO National News: New birthday cut-off for U-5 Division

A recent rule change for the U-5 division will allow our New Lothrop program to accept younger players.

The AYSO Program determines players age division based on the players age each year on July 31st. However, effective immediately, there will be a new birthday cut-off for the U-5 program. Children who are four years old by September 1st will be eligible to play in our fall season and children who are four years old by April 1st will be eligible to play in the spring.

The rule change does not affect any other age divisions. Therefore, players accepted under the new age-cutoff will play U-5 again the following year, moving to U-6 only when they meet the standard eligibility age of 5 years old by July 31st.

If you would like to register your child or have eligibility questions, please call our registrar, Sarah Wheeler, at (810) 638-5344.

Spring 2007 Fields
Due to the construction activities at the school, we have had to relocate our fields for the Spring Season.

The U-5, U-6, and U-8 teams will play on the south lawn of the high school.  Unfortunately, the fields are very close to the driveway.  Please use extreme caution when driving near the fields and keep a close eye on your children when you're on the fields.

The U10 and U14 fields will be located at St. Michael's church beginning the week of April 30th.  The U10 and U14 teams will play at the high school on Super Soccer Saturday, April 28th.

We realize this is not an ideal arrangement, but we thank everyone for their patience and understanding during the school construction period.

Super Soccer Saturday April 28th

Our second annual Super Saturday of soccer, fun, and prizes was another huge success!

Over 200 players, including teams from Flushing and Clio, hit the New Lothrop fields under a beautiful sunny spring sky for a day full of soccer fun!

Hot Shots Photography was at the fields to take individual and team photos.  Photos should be delivered to team coaches next week. Hot Shots donated a photo blanket again to be raffled -- this year's lucky winner is Kelsey Moore!

Every player, coach, and referee's name was automatically entered into our big drawing for lots of prizes, including water bottles, hackey sacks, t-shirts, and soccer balls.  Thanks to Denise Gagnon of Prezelbilities, Karyolyn Sandoval of Mary Kay cosmetics, and Sarah Wheeler for donating prizes.

New this Year!

 - Games under the big tent!  Thank you to our AYSO Safety Director, Karolyn Sandoval for providing fun games and prizes!
 - Shoe exhange!   At your request, we had a table under the tent for everyone's outgrown shoes. We didn't get a big response to this event, but we'll advertise it more next year.  It's a great chance to clean out your closet and donate your old cleats -- and pick up a new size.
 - Bounce Houses!   Thank you to Rex and Sarah Wheeler for donating the use of two bounce houses as well as the big tent!   The bounce houses were a huge success with kids of all ages!
 - Snack sale!   Thank you to our treasurer, Tammy Ritter, for organizing the snack sale -- the sports drinks and snacks were a big hit.

Thank You...
...to all of our volunteer coaches and referees for the time they put into ensuring that our kids have a safe, fair, and fun soccer experience.
...to Charlie & Kirsten Gasper for getting all six fields ready for the big day.
...to Rex & Sarah Wheeler, Karyolyn Sandoval, Debbie Severn, Tammy Ritter, and Jim Krupp, for all of the time they put into making the day a success.

Just for 4 Year Olds!
U5 Soccer

Our U-5 Jamboree is specially designed for 4 year olds!  The program runs from September to May (8 fall sessions and 8 spring sessions).  Mom or Dad joins each player on the field for a few minutes of skills development, then the kids play a 3v3 game on a specially sized field where everyone gets a chance to kick the ball and score!

Teens!
Another new program...  We're currently offering a co-ed Fall Soccer for Teens program.  For a special reduced registration fee of only $15, AYSO will provide 8 "just for fun" training/game sessions on Monday evenings on the New Lothrop fields (no traveling!).  This program is open to anyone too old for our 'regular' teams.  No experience necessary!   Interested?   Register on-line at www.eayso.org or call 810-638-5572.

Good News!

AYSO strongly recommends separate girls and boys teams at every age level.  We currently offer separate teams in the U-10 and U-12 divisions, but due to the limited number of players in our region, we have only had co-ed U-6 and U-8 teams to date.  The good news:  Due to the increased number of players in our region, we will offer separate girls and boys teams in all divisions in Fall 2006!   This is best for the kids and we're excited to see it happen!

Super Soccer Saturday: April 29, 2006
April 29th was our Super Soccer Saturday!  This was opening day for our U-5, U-6, and U-8 players. It was also the home opener for our U-10 and U-12 teams.  We had over 200 players and their families on our fields, including visiting teams from Holly and Flushing. Seventeen coaches and twelve referees helped to ensure safe, fun, and fair games!

It was also Picture Day!  Hot Shots Photography was on hand to take individual and team pictures.  Your coach already has your pictures back.  Please see him or her if you didn't get yours yet.  Thanks to Hot Shots, our region had a unique photo blanket to raffle.  The lucky winner:  Lindsey Kreklau!

Super Soccer Saturday drawings were held and lucky players won lots of prizes, including water bottles, t-shirts, bracelets, and soccer bags.

Welcome, all 4 year-olds in Fall 2005!

Register your four year old this spring to play soccer in the Fall-Spring 2006/07 Season!  Put on your sneakers, Mom and Dad!  We now offer a program just for four year olds and their parents.  The objective of this program is to provide young players and their parents with a “pressure free” introduction to the beautiful and simple game of soccer.  At this age players should be exposed to soccer by playing simple, fun activities and games that require little to no practice, and a minimal time commitment.  All children who are 4 years old by July 31, 2006 are eligible to play.  Can't wait to see you there!
