Atlanta Wood Bat Instructional League. (AWBIL)
A 6-8 week competitive collegiate wood bat instructional summer baseball league that will start June 2009. The league play will be held in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area.
AWBIL will host a kick off and information session on December 27, 2008 from 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. KAGEZ Multi-Purpose facility located 3788 Campbellton Road Atlanta, Georgia 404-344-1550.
The session will cover the purpose of the AWBIL, league structure, league sanction, type of competition, schedule of instruuctional league games and competitive league games, cost to participate, application process, and player development and upward mobility as a collegiate athlete.
All interested high school seniors and collegiate baseball players are encouraged to attend. KAGEZ MULTI PURPOSE FACILITY IS AN INDOOR BATTING FACILITY. PLEASE SHOW UP READY TO SWING A WOOD BAT.........................................

AWBIL LEAGUE OVERVIEW
Atlanta Wood Bat Instructional League is a 6-8 week competitive wood bat instructional collegiate summer baseball league for players from ACC, SEC, ATLANTIC SUN, MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC, NJCC, NAIA, and other INDEPENDENT colleges and universities across the southeast region of the United States.
AWBIL approach and mission is an affordable instructional competitive wood bat league for players that are seeking player development against quality collegiate competition. In addition, AWBIL has a community service mission whereby collegiate players will serve as mentors to young inner city youth that have a desire to acquire a college education and play collegiate baseball.
AWBIL dream league would be 4 teams with two divisions. There would be two (2) teams comprised of recent high school graduates that are en route to college as freshman. The other division will have two (2) teams with players from four your colleges and Universities as well as junior colleges (NCAA, NJCAA, NAIA) with college eligibility remaining. A dream team roster would be 7 solid pitchers and 13 position players competing in a 25-30 game season. The season will be comprised between 12-15 instructional league games and 12- 15 competitive games. In the event there is not a high response, then teams will be compromised from the level of response.
AWBIL will compete against teams that are in Stan Musial Division of the American Amateur Baseball Congress, The Great South Collegiate League of the National Association of Collegiate Summer Baseball and Collegiate teams in the southeast. A venue has not been selected, but a home field will be at a local facility in the Atlanta Georgia metropolitan area.
AWBIL season will start at the or during the 2nd week of June 2009 and will conclude at the end of July 2009 or the first week of August 2009. All games will be held on the weekends, doubleheader 7 innings per game and 9 innings for a single game.

LEADERSHIP/ADMINISTRATION
Arney D. Roberson Sr., the founder and Executive Director of Atlanta Wood Back Instructional Baseball League. He is a 1978 graduated from JEB Stuart High School located in Falls Church, Virginia. He attended Florida Memorial University where he earned a Bachelors of Science degree of Public Administration 1982. He furthered his matriculation and received a Master of Public Administration from Florida International University 1985.
Arney is employed as a fiduciary agent for Zurich North American Insurance Company. Zurich Insurance Company is one of the top 5 insurance companies nationwide. Arney handles general liability, bodily injury liability, and litigation management claim handling for various corporations and companies that are clients of Zurich. Arney represents Zurich and negotiates settlements, attend mediations and other Alternative Dispute Resolution with respect to commercial claim disputes. Arney has negotiated and settled over $75 million in insurance settlement during his occupational career.
Arney has work extensively in the field of volunteerism since 1974, as a coach, a sports administrator, marketing representative and event manager from the little league to the collegiate level. With 25 years of humanitarian service, Arney has had direct involvement with former players who are now icons in the world of collegiate and professional sports. Arney will oversee the entire league operation and serve as the Executive Director and General Manager for all of the AWBIL teams.

AWBIL ROYALS WILL COMPETE IN THE GREAT SOUTH LEAGUE
The AWBIL ROYALS WILL COMPETE IN THE GREAT SOUTH LEAGUE FOR THE SUMMER OF 2009. THE GSL IS A COMPETITIVE WOOD BAT COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE WITH TEAMS FROM SIX (6) STATES ALABAMA, GEORGIA,VIRGINIA, NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND FLORIDA.
PLAYERS THAT COMPETE ARE FROM A HOST OF COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES FROM AROUND THE UNITED STATES AND THE US VIRGIN ISLANDS. MOST RECENTLY, ESPN MAGAZINE QUOTED THE GSL AS ONE OF THE TOP 20 COLLEGIATE WOOD BAT SUMMER LEAGUES.
There will be an open try out and 25 players will selected to the roster for the summer of 2009. In the event there is a need for a 2nd team, consideration will be undertaken.

AWBIL ROYALS ANNOUNCE COACHING STAFF
AWBIL ROYALS have selected Brent Slade head coach at Carver High School and Antonio Coger head coach at North Atlanta High School to serve as coaches for the 2009 season. Both coaches bring a wealth of knowledge and a grasp for player delvelopment along with teaching the proper fundamentals of baseball.
Coach Slade just completed his 4th year as head coach at Carver High School. Coach Slade is a native of Tallahassee, Florida, and a former collegiate baseball player.
Coach Coger finished his 4th year as the skipper for North Atlanta High School. Coach Coger is a former collegiate catcher at Alabama State University.
AWBIL ROYALS are happy to have two coaches that do a good job leading young men and teaching the game of baseball.
Coach Slade will be the head Coach and Coach Coger is the Associate Head Coach.

AWBIL ROYALS OPEN TRY-OUT
The AWBIL ROYALS of the Great South Collegiate Wood Bat League will have an open try-out on May 30, 2009 at Carver High School from 1:00 p.m. - 4;00 p.m.
All collegiate baseball players are invited to attend.

ROYALS FALL TO COBB STARS 7-6
The Awbill Royals lost their season opener 7-6 to the Cobb Premier Stars. The Cobb Stars lead most of the game, but the Royals were able to tack on 5 runs in the top of the 9th inning. With the bases loaded, the Royals batter flyed out to right field and ended this dramatic comeback.
PIRATES ESCAPE ROYALS 5-4
The Athens Pirates escaped with a victory in a hard fought battle that lasted to the very end. The Royals pitchers gave up only 3 hits and were leading the entire game going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Down 4-2 the Pirates lead off hit a triple to right field to start off , and he later socred after the 2nd batter reached base with a double. With the Royals leading 4-3 the third and final batter hit a walk off homer and the cagey Pirates escaped with a 5-4 victory over the Royals.
ROYALS FEEL THE WRATH OF THE WOOD BATS 12-0
The Awbil Roylas felt the wrath of the Wood Bats in a 12-0 trip to the wood shed. The Royals struggled with pitching and and did not have an answer for the Wood Bats hitters. With this being said, the Woods Bats put the lumber on the Royals.
WOOD BATS EDGE OUT ROYALS 2-1
The Columbus Woods Bats pulled off the win against the Royals in a game that did not end without the questions. The Royals were leading 1-0 in the top of the 5th when their 1st baseman hit a line drive over the left field fence for a home run. After rounding the bases and crossing home plate, there was controversy the ball was foul. Umpires later ruled a foul ball and the batter had to return to the plate. At this time, as expected he received a walk. The Woods Bats scorded 2 runs in the later innings and came out atop 2-1.
ROYALS PULL OFF 4-2 VICTORY AGAINST CANES
The Awbil Royals with solid pitching, nine strikeouts, and good defense from the middle infield produced their first victory of the season with a 4-2 win over The Carolina Hurricanes (CHARLOTTE, NC). The Hurricanes had a couple hits for extra bases, but the Royals pitchers were on point and held on to get the victory.
HURRICANES STORM BY ROYALS 7-3
The Carolina Hurricanes in the second game of a doubleheader came with outstanding pitching and storm pass the Royals 7-3. The Royals did not lead during the game, but were close in the bottom 5th 4-3. The Hurricanes pitchers did not allow any hits during the last two innings and finished the exibit with 9 strikeouts.
WOOD BATS COMEBACK BEAT ROYALS 11-8
The Columbus Wood Bats erased an eight point deficit and secured an 11-8 victory over the Awbil Royals. The Royals started the game on fire and lead 8-0 going into the bottom of the 5th. At this time, the Wood Bats started to swing the lumber and produced 8 runs to tie the game 8-8 going into the top of the 6th. The Royals got cold and the Wood Bats went ahead and closed with a 11-8 comeback.
BIG TRAIN DELIVERS 9-3 DEFEAT ROYALS
The East Alabama Big Train made their delievery with a 9-3 defeat of the Awbil Royals. Big Train batters started the botton of the 1st with a couple hits for extra bases and a homer to start with a 4-0 lead. The Royals were never really a threat to the Big Train but they scored 3 runs but fell 9-3 to the Big Train.
BIG TRAIN PULL AWAY FROM ROAYLS 5-3
The Awbil Royals came out the block with a purpose and started the game with a 3-0 lead against the Big Train. After leading over 3 innnings the Big train scored 3 runs to make it a 3-3 tie game. In the bottom of the 5th with one runner on base the Big Train batter homered and they took a 5-3 lead. The Royals failed to score in the 5th and 6th and they took it on the chin with the host winning 5-3.
COBB STARS 16-1 OVER ROAYLS
The Awbil Royals appeared to be Struck by Cobb Stars and knocked into stardom with a 16-1 defeat. The Royals did not have any answer for the Stars from afar and above.
COBB STARS SHINE AGAIN 14-3
The Awbil Royals tried but did not bring enough to the field and were beat 14-3 by the Cobb Stars. Royals batters got a couple of hits late and homered to bring in 3 runs for the game.
ROYALS FAIL TO CATCH STARS 6-5
The Awbil Royals hit the ball good and came from behind but failed to keep the lead and were upset 6-5 defeat by the Cobb Stars. The Royals were leading the game 5-3 going into the bottom 7th inning, when the Star's offense put 3 runs on the board for the win against the visitors.
LATE INNING HITS LIFT WOOD BATS 8-7 OVER ROYALS
The Awbil Royals were leading heading into the bottom of the 9th but allowed the Wood bats to tie 7-7 and extra innings were required. Going into the bottom of the 10th the Royals had a runner in scoring position but they were unable to score the go ahead run. The vistors scored in the top 11th to take an 8-7 lead to close the game.
ROYALS GET WIN ON BIG TRAIN 4-3
The Awbil Royals pitchers had 9 strikeouts and held on to take a 4-3 victory over the East Alabama Big Train. The Big Train bats were stalled and they failed to crank up a rally. The Royals defense was solid and stopped the Big Train from leaving without a 4-3 defeat.
BIG TRAIN RIDES AGAIN 9-3 OVER ROYALS
The East Alabama Big Train pitcher came back with a pitching display/showcase. The Awbil Royals were held to 1 hit for the game and were shut out 9-0. "Hats off to the East Alabama Big train pitcher."
