ASE Pee Wee Baseball: 2012 Season

ASE and National Family battle to 3-3 tie!
Kid throwing ball up

Well it was a game that saw both teams have some opening game jitters. Going into the game I knew we had better play pretty good to even have a chance to be in the game. National Family has 8 returners from last season and should be one of the best teams in our league this year. We jumped on them early as Ty Jones started the season off with a base hit to left field. Jacob Null then singled to score Ty for a 1-0 ASE lead. Kaiden Kuykendall went down swinging for the first out of the inning. Marlon Briggs then singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd with only one out. Steffan Fak hit into a forceout but Jacob scored on the play for a 2-0 lead. Aiden Taylor would then single but Brennen Linson went down on strikes and our half of the inning was over.

National Family would come right back at us hitting the ball but our defense was up to the challenge. Their first batter hit to Jacob who scooped the ball up and threw to Steffan for a quick out. Their next batter grounded a ball to Kaiden at 2nd base who made a nice stop but Steffan was unable to handle the throw at 1st base. A single and then a forceout would lead to a National Family run and suddenly it was only a 2-1 ASE lead. Their last batter of the inning would go down on strikes and we clung to the 1-run lead.

The 2nd inning would see both teams struggle at the plate. Eli Thomason, Justice Lincks and Nathan Fuhrman all went down swinging and it was a very quick inning for us. After a single by National Family, Marlon Briggs would catch a pop fly for the first out of the inning. Their next two batters went down on strikes and the score remained 2-1 after two full innings of play.

Ty led off the top of the 3rd for us going down swinging but Jacob picked him up with a single to right field. Kaiden then hit a hard ball up the middle that Dez Lopez made a nice play on for National Family to get a forceout on Jacob. Marlon was then swinging for the fences and went down on strikes to end our half of the inning. National Family would have the top of their order due up in the bottom of the inning and they would take advantage. A couple of singles would put runners on 1st and 2nd. Jacob Null then threw a couple of runners out at 1st but a couple of runs would score on the plays and National Family took a 3-2 lead heading into the last inning.

Steffan led off the top of the 4th with an inside the park home run to tie the game at 3. That would be all the action for the rest of the night as from that point on, neither team could reach base and the game would end tied at 3. It was a good first game for our young ASE squad. I'm very proud of them and look forward to Thursday night. See you all at 7:00!

ASE bats come alive late to get 6-0 win over HBI
hit ball

Well, I guess it's better late than never! In a game that saw both teams really struggle at the plate, we finally came alive in the bottom of the 3rd inning and rallied for a 6-0 win over HBI. The strikeout bug bit both teams for much of the game, but our kids eventually came through.

HBI batted first and could not get anything going. Jacob Null and Steffan Fak teamed up on a very good play to keep HBI from scoring a run in the inning. The bottom of the inning would see us struggle as well. Ty Jones did get things started right with a base hit, but then a rare strikeout from Jacob Null and Kaiden Kuykendall. Marlon Briggs picked his teammates up with a base hit that scored Ty for a 1-0 ASE lead. Steffan then went down swinging to end the inning.

The 2nd inning would see neither team put hardly a bat on the ball. Aiden Taylor did hit the ball but was thrown out at 1st base on a close play. After two full innings of play, we lead 1-0. The top of the 3rd inning was much of the same for HBI. Three kids came to the plate and three struckout. Pretty much a snoozer to this point in the game. Our kids would suddenly change that!

Justice Lincks and Nathan Fuhrman both had some very good swings but went down on strikes. With two outs we would suddenly start a big rally. Ty reached on an infield single and Jacob would hit a high pop up that HBI was not able to corral. Kaiden would then also reach on an infield single to load the bases with Marlon at the plate. Marlon smacked a ball to left field to score two runs and give us a 3-0 lead. Steffan then followed that up with a base hit of his own scoring two more runs and suddenly our kids were going nuts in the dugout. Aiden Taylor finished the 5-run inning off with a double that scored Steffan and gave us a 6-0 lead. Wow, what a big 2-out rally by this group of young kids! That was fun.

The time limit had expired but HBI had two batters that had not batted so the umpires let both kids bat and the game was called with us notching the 6-0 win. Just when it looked like we had all but fell asleep, our kids rallied late and got us a big win. Great job tonight guys. See you on Monday at 6:30 for pictures.

ASE Week 1 - Player of the Week - Aiden Taylor
Aiden Taylor

Our week 1 player of the week is Aiden Taylor. He went 3 for 4 at the plate in our two games this week and made a couple of very good plays on defense. Aiden is really making good contact at the plate and looks like he's going to be one of our more consistent hitters. Great job this week Aiden, we are very proud of you!

ASE goes 2-0 on the week!
outfielder catches ball

Well, our young team moved to 3-0-1 this week as we notched wins over Forsgren and Shoe Carnival. The Forsgren game would see us hit the ball pretty well, while Forsgren could not get much going at the plate. Against Shoe Carnival, our defense was the hero. Shoe Carnival hit the ball very well, but our defense made the plays it had to and secured us the big win.

Against Forsgren, we came right out hitting the ball. Ty Jones got us going with a single up the middle. After Jacob Null went down on strikes, Steffan Fak hit a ball to the fence and hustled all the way around the bases for an inside the park home run. Just like that we had a 2-0 lead. Marlon Briggs and Aiden Taylor also managed hits in the inning but we could not manage anymore runs. Forsgren led off their half of the inning grounding the ball to Jacob, who threw to Steffan for a quick out. Their next two batters went down on strikes and after one full inning we led 2-0.

The 2nd inning we would put the game out of reach. Eli Thomason got his first hit of the season to get our rally started. After Justice Lincks went down on strikes, Nathan Fuhrman got a base hit and we were in business. Dillon Pike then went down on strikes but Ty would quickly pick him up with a double to left field scoring Eli. Jacob Null then hit a rocket to right field and used a throwing error to score for an inside the park home run and a 6-0 ASE lead. Steffan would then double and Marlon would single him in for our 5th and final run of the inning. Forsgren once again was not able to get anything going and the game was called due to the time limit. Forsgren was allowed to let a couple of kids bat after we recorded the 3rd out, but it did not count in the score. ASE wins 7-0!!!

Our second game of the week would be against a scrappy Shoe Carnival team. Shoe Carnival would really impress me with their bats. But just as impressive as their offense was our defense. The kids really came to play some defense and it would be the reason we won the game. We would jump out to an early lead in this one as Ty Jones got things going with a base hit up the middle in the top of the 1st inning. Jacob Null then singled to score Ty and Steffan would then single to score Jacob for a quick 2-0 ASE lead. Marlon reached on an infield single and Aiden would hit into a forceout. Kaiden and Brennen went down on strikes and after one full inning of play, we lead 2-0. Shoe Carnival really came out hitting. Their first batter went down on strikes but then they really started hitting the ball well. Back-to-back singles would put runners on 1st and 2nd. Marlon would then tag one of their runners out at 3rd for the second out of the inning. Their next batter would double to left field, but Nathan Fuhrman did a great job getting the ball in to Ty, who threw to Marlon for another tag out to end the inning.

The 2nd inning would see Eli go down on strikes but Justice picked him up with a single up the middle. Nathan would then strikeout and dillon grounded out to the 1st baseman to end our half of the inning. Shoe Carnival managed to score a run in the bottom of the inning and would have scored more if not for a couple of good plays by Jacob and Steffan. The 3rd inning we would really put the game away. Ty would double to centerfield and Jacob would hit the ball deep for an inside the park home run and 4-0 ASE lead. Steffan and Marlon would both single and Aiden Taylor would knock both of the in with a base hit to left field. Kaiden, Brennen and Eli would all go down swinging and the score remained 6-1. Shoe Carnival would score a couple of runs in the bottom of the inning, but once again our defense saved the day. A good play by Kaiden Kuykendall and Steffan Fak would slow Shoe Carnival down a bit. Jacob ended the game by making a very good catch on a pop-up and we would win the game 6-3. The win moves us into a 1st place tie with Cricket at 3-0-1 on the season. It will be a battle for 1st place on Monday night versus a very good Cricket team.

ASE Week 2 - Player of the Week - Marlon Briggs
2011 Marlon

Our player of the week for the 2nd week of the season is Marlon Briggs. He had a great week of baseball for our team. He went 4 for 4 at the plate with 2- RBI's and he also had three put-outs at 3rd base on the week. Marlon is one of our returning players from last season's championship team and the kids really look for him to be one of the leaders of our team. So far he is doing a great job. Good job this week Marlon, we are very proud of you!

Jacob Null's home run blast saves game!
Homerun

Well, they say save the best for last and that's what we done against Cricket tonight. With us down 2 runs in the last inning, our little stick of dynamite, Jacob Null, blasted a home run over the centerfield fence to tie the game at 4. It was something to see that's for sure! Cricket ended up making a good play two batters later and on a very close play at home, tagged Steffan out to preserve the tie. It was a fun game to be a part of and to coach in. Cricket is coached by a couple of good friends of mine and their teams are always good. Let's see how the rest of the game went down.

Cricket led off the game really hitting the ball well. Their first four batters hit the ball to the outfield and if it had not been for a couple of good plays by Nathan Fuhrman and Aiden Taylor, the score might have been 4-0. But both players got the ball back into our infield quickly and we held Cricket to only 2 runs in the inning. Kaiden Kuykendall also made a nice play to help hold Cricket to only two runs. Our bats came right back at Cricket to beging the bottom of the 1st. Ty Jones led off by grounding out to the 3rd baseman on a very good play. Jacob Null would then triple to right field and I got greedy and tried to score him on the play. Cricket 's catcher made a very good play tagging Jacob out. Little did I know but that play would come back to haunt me later. Steffan would then pick us up with a double and Marlon Briggs drove a ball deep to centerfield and hustled all the way around for an inside the park home run to tie the game at 2. Aiden Taylor then went down on strikes to end our half of the inning.

The 2nd inning would see both teams struggle at the plate and neither team could get anything going. The score remained tied at 2 heading into the top of the 3rd inning. Cricket's bats came back to life as Nick Hewett led off with a single for them and Bryce Caldwell drove a ball to left field. Their next batter singled in both runs for a 4-2 Cricket lead. A couple of strikeouts and a good play by Jacob would get us out of the inning without them scoring anymore runs.

I knew the time limit was close to expiring and this could be our last at bats. Things sure didn't start off too well, as Justice and Nathan both went down on strikes and just like that there were two outs. Ty Jones then got us going with an infield single and then Jacob blasted his ball over the fence to tie the game at 4. The umpire announced that time had expired so the game was ours to win ot tie. Steffan singled and Marlon drove a ball to the outfield. As Steffan was rounding 2nd base, Cricket was struggling to get the ball in from the outfield. So I had made up my mind I was sending Steffan home and it turned out to be a very close play at the plate. I was right on top of the play and it looked as if Steffan slid under the tag, as he was tagged on the head. The umpire called him out and the game ended in a tie. Great play once again by Cricket's catcher. It was a great game to be a part of and I could not be prouder of our kids. With 7, first year players I am so proud of how far this team has come. See you guys Wednesday at practice.

ASE gets huge win over YMA, 5-3!
RBI

Well, it was a rematch of last years' city championship game, but both teams have changed quite a bit since then. We only have four players back off that team and I know YMA has a lot of new players as well. Just like last season's game, this one was a lot of fun and ASE would once again come out on top. Our kids played a really good game and our defense once again carried us to the victory.

Ty Jones led off the game with a base hit and it looked as if we were gonna roll early. Jacob Null then reached on an infield single. Steffan Fak then popped a ball up that was caught by the 2nd baseman and Jacob was doubled up for two quick outs. Ty tagged up from 2nd base on the play and used a YMA throwing error to score our first run of the game. Marlon Briggs would then reach on an infield single, but Aiden Taylor went down swinging to end our half of the inning.

YMA led off their half of the inning with a base hit to left field. Nathan Fuhrman did a great job of getting the ball back in to Ty, who relayed to Kaiden for the tag out at 2nd base. YMA then reached on a couple of singles to score a run and tie the game at 1. They had runners on 2nd and 3rd with only one out but their next two batters struckout and the game remained tied after one full inning of play.

The top of the 2nd we were not able to get anything going on offense. Brennen Linson went down swinging and Dillon Pike grounded out to the 2nd baseman. Kaiden Kuykendall would then groundout to the pitcher and our half of the inning was over. YMA managed a couple of hits in the bottom of the inning and would take a 2-1 lead. Our defense once again did a great job of getting the ball in from the outfield and held them to only singles.

The top of the 3rd we would really come out hitting. Eli Thomason got us going with an infield single and Nathan would do the same. Justice would go down on strikes but Ty would quickly pick him up with a base hit to right field. Jacob then drove a ball to left field scoring two more runs and extending our lead to 4-2. Steffan kept the hit parade going with a base hit and Marlon would single in Jacob for a 5-2 ASE lead. Aiden would once again go down on strikes and Brennen would groundout to the 2nd baseman to end our half of the inning. YMA did not manage to score a run in the bottom of the 3rd. Kaiden caught a pop fly and a couple of strikeouts would get us out of the inning still up 5-2.

The top of the 4th we did not manage to score as well and with the time limit almost up all we had to do was hold YMA and the game was ours. They led off the bottom of the 4th with a base hit but Aiden got the ball in quickly and held them to only a single. Their next batter would groundout to Jacob for one out. After a strikeout, their next batter grounded to Kaiden, who made a perfect throw to Steffan to end the game and give us a big 5-3 win.

The win moves us a top of the league standings with a record of 4-0-2. If you would have told me at the beginning of the season that we would be in 1st place at this point I would have not believed you. I am so very proud of how these kids have come to practice and got better each and every time. They are a fun bunch and it's neat to see them improve each and every game.

ASE Week 3 - Player of the Week - Kaiden Kuykendall
Kaiden Kuykendall

Our player of the week for this week is Kaiden Kuykendall. He played really good defense in our two games this week and made some very nice plays. He made a couple of plays in the YMA game that really saved the game for us and helped us get the big 5-3 win. Kaiden has struggled at the plate so far this season but seems to be coming around. He got a big hit in the YMA game and has started hitting much better in practice. Great job this week Kaiden, we are very proud of you!

ASE survives National Family, 2-1
Umpire

On a night that saw the pitching machine throwing the ball all over the place, I was proud of our kids for fighting threw it all and coming up with a big win. National Family has 10 players back from last year and is one of the best teams in our league. They hit the ball very well tonight, but our defense was up to the challenge and once again made plays to lead us to another win.

National Family came right out hitting the ball. Our defense did an amazing job of holding them to only one run in the 1st inning. After a couple of base hits, Nathan Fuhrman got the ball in quickly on a base hit to left field and helped us hold them to only one run. Their next two batters went down on strikes and we had dodged a huge bullet and was only down 1-0. We did not manage to score in the bottom half of the inning as Ty Jones led off grounding out to the 1st baseman. Jacob Null and Steffan Fak both went down on strikes as the pitching machine was all over the place with the pitches.

The 2nd inning National Family would start off with a couple of strikeouts but then rattle off two straight hits. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Marlon Briggs then made the play of the game as he somehow knocked down a very hard hit ball down 3rd base line, stepped on his bag for the final out of the inning. Marlon would then get us going at the plate as he led off with a double. Aiden Taylor went down on strikes but Brennen Linson drove Marlon in with a base hit to tie the game at 1. Dillon Pike would groundout to the 3rd baseman, but Kaiden Kuykendall picked us up with a base hit to score Brennen and give us a 2-1 lead. Eli Thomason then reached on an infield single but Mrs. Jodie got him tagged at as he was trying to make it to 2nd base. By the way, he was mad at her the rest of the night for doing that :)

The 3rd inning neither team could get anything going and the game was called due to the time limit. On a crazy and late night at Goldtrap, somehow we managed to squeak out a 2-1 win and move to 5-0-2 on the season. Great job tonight guys and see you all Wednesday at practice.

ASE blanks G-Major, 5-0!
Smiley face

Well tonight was a combination of good defense and pretty good hitting by our young team. We got a few really key hits and defensively everytime G-Major looked as if they would score, our defense made plays to keep them off the scoreboard.

G-Major came right out hitting the ball but our defense was up to the challenge once again. A couple of hits surrounded by a couple of strikeouts would see them threaten to score in the top of the 1st inning. Aiden Taylor did a very nice job in the outfield holding them to only singles. Jacob Null them fielded a grounder and threw to Steffan Fak for the final out and it was now our turn to hit. Ty Jones got things started with a double to the outfield. Jacob then singled him in for a 1-0 ASE lead. After a rare Steffan Fak strikeout, Marlon Briggs singled to score Jacob. Aiden Taylor would groundout to 1st base, but Kaiden Kuykendall came through with a big 2-out hit to score Marlon and give us a 3-0 lead. Dillon Pike then went down on strikes but it was a good 1st inning for our kids.

The top of the 2nd inning was the "Jacob Null" show. He threw their first batter out at 1st base, then caught a pop-up by their next batter and just like that there were two outs. A couple of hits would see them put runners on the corners, but their next batter would go down on strikes to end their half of the inning. The bottom of the 2nd we were not able to get anything going. Brennen and Eli both went down swinging, but Nathan picked them up with a base hit. Justice then would end the inning with a strikeout and the score remained 3-0.

The rest of the game would be missed opportunties by both teams. Our defense continued to play well. Kaiden made a couple of very good plays at 2nd base to keep G-Major off the board. We would manage a couple more runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 4th to put the final margin at 5-0. The win moves us to 6-0-2 on the season and still in 1st place in the league standings. Great job again this week ASE!!!

ASE Week 4 - Player of the Week - Jacob Null
Jacob Null 2012

Our player of the week for week 4 of the season is Jacob Null. Jacob went 2 for 4 at the plate this week with a couple of RBI's. He was awesome on defense and is without a doubt the best pitcher in our league. He is a great kid that always gives his all and is very coachable. Great job this week and all season Jacob. We are very proud of you!

ASE shuts out HBI, 5-0!
baseball guy

Well, this one sure wasn't pretty at times, but the end result sure was for our team. We struggled at the plate due to a crazy pitching machine and the kids really had to focus to just make contact. I was proud of how our kids seems to adjust the second time thru the batting line-up and we got just enough runs on the board to notch our 7th victory of the season.

Ty Jones got things going for us with a single to start the game. Jacob Null would then follow that up with a single of his own. Steffan Fak and Marlon Briggs both went down on strikes as the pitches were all over the place. Kaiden Kuykendall came thru with a big 2-out hit to score Ty for a 1-0 ASE lead. Dillon Pike would then hit into a forceout and it was time for our defense to go to work. Went to work they did as HBI came right out hitting the ball. Their first batter grounded out to Kaiden, who threw to Steffan for a quick out. After their next batter struckout, Marlon Briggs made a great play on a very hard hit line drive. Marlon caught the ball for the third out of the inning.

The 2nd inning we led off with a strikeout from Aiden Taylor, but Brennen Linson picked him up with an infield single. Nathan Fuhrman would do the same and we were back in business. Eli Thomason battled hard at the plate before going down on strikes. After a Ty Jones infield single we had the bases loaded but Jacob would go down swinging to end our half of the inning. HBI managed a couple of hits surrounded by a couple of strikeouts. With two outs and runners on the corners, Jacob caught a pop up to end the inning with us still clinging on to a 1-0 lead.

The top of the 3rd we would put this game away. Steffan and Marlon would both single and Kaiden hit a deep shot to left field scoring both runners for a 3-0 lead. Dillon Pike would then groundout to the pitcher but Kaiden hustled from 2nd base to score on the play. Aiden Taylor then came thru with a big infield single. After Brennen grounded out to 1st base, Nathan would single to score Aiden for a 5-0 ASE lead. Eli once again battled hard at the plate but went down swinging for the third out of the inning. HBI was not able to get anything going in the bottom of the inning and the game would be called due to time limit.

The win moves us to 7-0-2 on the season and still in 1st place in the league standings. Way to go ASE, very proud of you guys!

ASE Week 5 - Player of the Week - Nathan Fuhrman
Nathan Fuhrman

Our player of the week for week 5 of the season is Nathan Fuhrman. Nathan went 2 for 2 in our game this week versus HBI and drove in a big run for our team. Nathan has really improved as the season has went along. He is working hard in practice and it shows on the field. He has also done a great job in left field for us. He always gets the ball back in to the infield quick and helps us hold runners to only singles. Great job Nathan, we are very proud of you!

ASE wins 5-0, records 3rd straight shut-out!
Wow waving

I guess you could say our defense is playing pretty well right now. We won our 8th game of the season tonight and recorded our 3rd straight shut-out of an opponent. Forsgren really hit the ball very well, but our defense was awesome out there tonight! Let's see how it all went down.

After a strikeout to begin the game, Forsgren then started hitting the ball. After a base hit, their next batter grounded out to Jacob Null, who tossed to Steffan Fak for the second out of the inning. Their next batter would hit the ball to Marlon Briggs at 3rd base who scooped the ball up and tagged the runner out coming to his bag. Great play Marlon! Our bats came to life to begin the bottom half of the inning. Ty Jones got things going with an infield single. Jacob Null would double to score Ty for a 1-0 ASE lead. Marlon would then single up the middle to score Jacob and just like that it was 2-0. Steffan went down on strikes but the "hot hitting" Kaiden Kuykendall doubled to left field to score Marlon for a 3-0 ASE lead. Dillon Pike and Aiden Taylor both battled hard but went down on strikes to end the inning with us holding the 3-0 lead.

Forsgren started the top of the 2nd with a strikeout and then a groundout to Jacob. After back to back singles, their next batter would groundout to Marlon, who stepped on his bag for the forceout. Our bats could not get anything going in the bottom half of the inning. Brennen Linson went down swinging but Nathan Fuhrman picked him up with an infield single. Eli Thomason and Justice Lincks both struckout to end our half of the inning.

Forsgren came right back at us hitting the ball but our defense was too tough on this night. After a base hit, Kaiden would field the next ball and tag the runner out going to 2nd. After a strikeout, the next Forsgren batter would hit a slow roller to Jacob. He charged the ball and made a perfect throw to Steffan for the third out of the inning. Ty led off the bottom of the 3rd with a strikeout but Jacob and Marlon picked him up with back-to-back singles. I got greedy on the play and got Jacob tagged out at 3rd base. Steffan then came through with a big 2-out hit to score Marlon for a 4-0 ASE lead. Kaiden then sngled to left field to score Steffan and the rout was on. Dillon would then reach on an infield single, but Kaiden was tagged out at home plate on the play and the inning was over.

Forsgren was not able to get anything going in the top of the 4th and the game was called due to the time limit. Ty Jones made a good play in the inning for an out and Jacob would throw yet another Forsgren runner out at 1st base. The game would end with us notching our 3rd straight win by the score of 5-0. Very proud of the way our kids played tonight. It is really fun to see them be excited about playing baseball and playing it well. See you all at practice on Wednesday night.

ASE wins 6th straight, defeats Shoe Carnival 4-2!
Outfielder

We moved to 9-0-2 on the season tonight with a 4-2 hard fought win over a scrappy Shoe Carnival team. This run that we are on is just incredible. With 7 first year players I never dreamed we could win 9 games this year and we are on pace to win even more. What is even more incredible to think about is we have not lost a game as an ASE team since June 29, 2010. Since that game that we lost to YMA in the 2010 city championship, we are 26-0-3. What a fun run it has been. This group is doing their part to keep the ASE tradition going! I am so proud of how these kids have improved and keep playing so hard. The game tonight was a hard fought victory and once again our defense stole the show.

Shoe Carnival hit the ball really well and they would waste no time in getting on the scoreboard. They got a run on a couple of hits and could have gotten one more but Jacob Null tagged a runner out at home plate to end their half of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Ty Jones led off with a rare strikeout. Jacob picked him up with a double to right field. Marlon Briggs would single to score Jacob to tie the game at one. Steffan Fak went down on strikes and Kaiden Kuykendall grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning with the game all tied at 1.

The top of the 2nd, Shoe Carnival would take the lead. Their first batter went dwon on strikes and their next batter grounded out to Kaiden at 2nd base. Back-to-back hits would score a run and give them a 2-1 lead. Their next batter would go down swinging to end their half of the inning. The bottom of the 2nd we were not able to get anything going on offense. Dillon Pike went down on strikes and Nathan Fuhrman grounded out to the 1st baseman. Aiden Taylor hit the ball hard up the middle, but their pitcher made a good play and threw Aiden out at 1st base. After two full innings of play, Shoe Carnival would hold a 2-1 lead.

The top of the 3rd was the Jacob and Steffan show. They made two really good plays to keep Shoe Carnival from adding to their lead and we would come to bat still down a run. Brennen Linson would help to get our rally started in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Eli and Justice would then both strikeout and it looked as if we may not score. Ty would then single to left field and Jacob hit a deep ball to right field and hustled all the way around for the inside the park home run. Brennen and Ty also scored on the play, so just like that we had a 4-2 lead. Steffan battled hard but went down swinging to end the inning.

The top of the 4th, Steffan caught a high pop up for the first out. He and Jacob teamed up again on the next batter and suddenly we were one out away for another win. Shoe Carnival's last batter of the game would strikeout and the game would be called due to time limit. Well, it may not have been real pretty but it was a win. Great job again ASE! Proud of you guys!

ASE Week 6 - Players of the Week - Steffan Fak & Brennen Linson
Steffan 2012

We couldn't pick just one player of the week this week, so we went with two. Both players did some really good things to help us go 2-0 in our games this week. Brennen got a big hit in our game versus Shoe Carnival on Thursday night that helped us to get a rally started. We would score three runs in the inning and go on for the big 4-2 win. Steffan Had an incredible nine put-outs in our two games this week. He has been awesome at 1st base defensively. He and Brennen are two of the reasons we are still un-defeated and in 1st place in the league standings. Great job to both players, we are very proud of you.

Brennen 2012

Strikeouts doom ASE against Cricket :(
Hat over eyes

On a late night at Goldtrap against a very good Cricket team, we could not shake the bugs out.... the strikeout bug that is. We had a season high 10 strikeouts while suffering our first loss of the season and first loss in almost two years. While Cricket didn't set the world on fire with their bats, they did manage a few more hits than we did and the result would be a 4-2 win for the guys in green.

The top of the 1st was a sign of bad things to come as Ty Jones and Jacob Null both struck-out. That has not happened all season long and hopefully won't happen again. Marlon Briggs then grounded out to Cricket's pitcher, Nick Hewett for the final out of the top of the 1st inning. Cricket came right out hitting the ball as they recorded four straight hits to take a 3-0 lead. Kaiden Kuykendall then turned a double play to help slow down the Cricket attack. Ty Jones then scooped up a ball and threw to Steffan Fak at 1st base for the final out of the inning.

The entire 2nd inning was not pretty for either team. There were five strikeouts between the two teams in the inning, so we won't even talk about that. The top of the 3rd would see Aiden Taylor single to open the ining, but then three staight strikeouts would end our half of the inning. Cricket would add to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd and it could have been worse if not for the play of our defense. Jacob threw a runner out at 1st base and Kaiden did the same. A couple of hits would score a Cricket run to make it a 4-0 game. Steffan then fielded a ball and stepped on his bag for the final out and it was our turn to try and get some runs.

The top of the 4th our bats came alive somewhat. Ty led off with a hit but Jacob went down on strikes again. Marlon would double to score Ty to pull us within 4-1. Kaiden then singled to left field scoring Marlon and suddenly it was 4-2. That would be as close as we would get. Nathan and Dillon both went down on strikes and the game was called due to the time limit. A few more hits and this would have been a different story. To win the league we now must beat a "red-hot" YMA team on Thursday night, so I hope the kids come out ready to play. See you all on Thursday at 8:00.

YMA claims league title with 6-4 win over ASE!
Crying

Well, this one was for all the marbles and we just couldn't get our bats going enough on this night. YMA hit the ball very well up and down their line-up and we once again struggled up and down ours. Our defense kept us in the game but we just couldn't manage enough hits to pull any closer than 6-4 in the end. The win gives YMA the league title and overall #1 seed in the up-coming city tournament.

Really don't have a whole lot to say about this game, except our struggles at the plate continued. YMA jumped on us and took a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 2nd inning. We could not keep the ball away from their pitcher and with the top of their order coming to bat in the 3rd inning, I knew we were in trouble. YMA reeled off 3 runs to take a 6-1 lead and with the time limit almost up, all we could do at this point was hope for a tie. We did manage 3 runs in the bottom half of the 4th inning to make it a 6-4 game but that would be as close as we would get on this night. Congrats to the YMA kids. They hit the ball much better than we did tonight and they deserved the big win.

ASE Week 7 - Player of the Week - TY Jones

Our player of the week for week 7 of the season is Ty Jones. Ty has been our shortstop all season long and has done a great job there. He is a real leader for us on the field and has made so many good plays this year for our team. He is a very coachable kid and a joy to have on our team. Great job this week Ty and all season long. We are very proud of you!

ASE bats come to life against G-Major!
baseball fire

Just when we thought our bats were gone, they suddenly came back to life tonight against G-Major. We reeled off 9 runs on 11 hits in a 9-1 romping of G-Major. We came right out hitting the ball and never looked back. Ty Jones led off the game with a double and Jacob null singled him in. Marlon Briggs and Kaiden Kuykendall both had RBI singles to make it a 3-0 ASE lead. Steffan Fak drove a ball to right field to score Kaiden and our bats were on fire. After Nathan Fuhrman went down on strikes, Brennen Linson picked him up with a single up the middle to score our 5th run of the inning.

G-Major led off the game grounding out to Marlon, who threw to Steffan for a quick out. A couple of infield singles surrounded by a strikeout would score a run to make it a 5-1 game. with runners on 2nd & 3rd, Marlon scooped up a ball and stepped on his bag for the final out of the inning. The 2nd inning neither team could get any offense going and the score remained 5-1 heading into the 3rd inning. With the top of our order due to bat I knew we could put this game away and that's what we did. Ty led off with a single and Jacob then hit a long shot to deep right field and came all the way around for an inside the park home run to make it a 7-1 ASE lead. Marlon would double and Steffen singled him in. Nathan grounded out to the 1st baseman, but Steffan scored on the play to make the score 9-1. that would be all the runs we would need in this one. G-Major could not keep the ball away from Jacob in the bottom half of the inning and this one would end with the good guys winning 9-1.

It was our final league game and we end the season with a 10-2-2 record and 2nd place in the league standings. We will start tournament play on Thursday night at Goldtrap. See you all then!

ASE pounds Midwest 8-0, advances to 2nd round!
hit ball

I was a little worried about the 8:30 start time for tonight's game. The only two games we have lost this season were played at 8:30 and both games we did not hit the ball well at all. Tonight would be a much different story. We pounded the ball all over the field on our way to a convincing 8-0 win over the #7 seed from Evans, Midwest Sporting Goods. The win moves us into the 2nd round of the City Pee Wee Tourney, where we will face the #6 seed from Goldtrap, G-Major.

Our defense came to play tonight as well as our offense. Midwest did not manage to score in the top of the 1st inning, as Steffan Fak made a good play at 1st base and they had a couple of players go down on strikes. We came to bat and went right to work. After a Ty Jones strikeout, we started pounding the ball all over the field. Jacob Null would double and Marlon Briggs would single him in for a 1-0 lead. Steffan would then drive a ball to right field for a double and Kaiden Kuykendall would do the same, scoring two runs for a 3-0 lead. Brennen Linson then grounded out to the 1st baseman, but Nathan Fuhrman would single, scoring Kaiden for our 4th run of the inning. Aiden Taylor then came through with a big hit, but Nathan would step off the bag at 2nd base and get tagged out for the final out of the inning. After one full inning of play we held a 4-0 lead.

Neither team could manage any runs in the 2nd inning as 5 of the 6 batters that went to the plate struck-out. Ty Jones did get robbed of a hit when he torched a line drive down 1st base line, but Midwest's 1st baseman made a leaping catch to end the inning with us still holding onto a 4-0 lead. The top of the 3rd would see Midwest threaten to score but once again our defense turned them away.

We would come to bat in the bottom of the inning looking to put this game away. That would be exactly what we would do. Jacob led off with a single but Marlon went down on strikes for only the 2nd time all season. Steffan picked his teammate up with a base hit up the middle. Kaiden then stayed red hot at the plate with a single scoring Jacob for a 5-0 ASE lead. Brennen then had one of his biggest hits of the season as he tripled to right field scoring both Steffan and Kaiden to extend our lead to 7-0. Nathan would then groundout to the 1st baseman but Brennen would score on the play to make it 8-0. Aiden would once again single but Dillon would go down on strikes to end the inning.

The top of the 4th, Midwest came out hitting the ball but our defense was sharp. First batter, hit to Marlon, he's thrown out! Second batter hit to Jacob, he's thrown out! Last batter of their season, hit to Kaiden, and you guessed it... he's out also! The game ends with us making three very good plays on defense to secure the 8-0 shutout of Midwest. Great game tonight ASE. Very proud of how you all played tonight! See you all on Monday. Have a great weekend!

ASE moves to City Semi-Finals with 10-1 win over G-Major!
Wow waving

Well, maybe we have saved the best for last, as our kids once again put on a show out there tonight on the pee wee field. We had a season high 15 hits on our way to a 10-1 win over G-Major. The win moves us into the City Tourney Semi-Finals where we will face a "red hot" National Family team on Tuesday night at 7:30.

G-Major came right out of the gate hitting the ball and early on it looked as if this would be a close game. They reeled off a couple of hits to take a 1-0 lead. A couple of strikeouts would suddenly give us two outs. Marlon Briggs then stopped a hard hit ball and threw to Kaiden Kuykendall at 2nd base for the force out to end their half of the inning. We struggled to get anything going in the bottom half of the inning. Ty Jones led off with a strikeout but Jacob Null picked him up with a triple. Marlon Briggs and Steffan Fak both went down swinging and we had left poor Jacob stranded at 3rd base to end the inning.

The top of the 2nd would see G-Major struggle at the plate. All three batters they sent up there went down on strikes and we came to bat still down 1-0. Kaiden Kuykendall got us going with a single to left field. Brennen Linson then went down on strikes but Nathan Fuhrman picked him up with a base hit to left field, scoring Kaiden to tie the game at 1. Aiden Taylor then singled up the middle to score Nathan and give us our first lead of the game. Dillon Pike kept the rally going with a base hit, scoring Aiden for a 3-1 ASE lead. Justice Lincks then came through with a big hit up the middle and Dillon hustled around to score. Eli Thomason then broke out of his slump with an infield single to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Ty Jones then smacked a ball to deep right field, scoring Justice for our 5th run of the inning. Wow, what a great rally by the bottom of our order!

G-Major came right back out hitting the ball. After their first batter went down swinging, they relled off back-to-back singles. Their next batter grounded to Ty, who threw to Marlon for the forceout at 3rd base. Jacob then scooped up a hard hit ball and threw to Steffan for the final out of the inning and we came to bat looking to put this game away. That would be exactly what we would do! Jacob led off with a single and Marlon knocked him in with a triple up the middle. Steffan then singled in Marlon and the rout was on. Kaiden would single to left field scoring Steffan for a 8-1 ASE lead. Brennen then reached on an infield single and Nathan kept the rally going with an RBI single to make it 9-1. Aiden stayed hot at the plate with his second RBI single of the game, scoring Nathan for a 10-1 lead. That would be our 5th run of the inning and the game was called due to the time limit.

It was another good performance by our kids tonight. We really played well and must continue to do that if we have any chance beating a very good National Family team tomorrow night in the pee wee city semi-finals. See you all at the game at 7:00pm.

ASE Week 8 - Players of the week - Justice, Dillon & Eli
Three amigos

Congrats to our week 8 players of the week, Justice Lincks, Dillon Pike and Eli Thomason. All three were good players for us this season and a joy to be around and coach. Justice did a great job at catcher this season and finally started hitting the ball towards the end of the year. Dillon also did very well at catcher for us and also hit pretty well. Eli started out the year red hot at the plate and had a little slump but finished the year strong. He also did a great job in the outfield for our team. Congrats to all three of these players for being named players of the week for our final week of the season. j
