ASE Pee Wee Baseball: 2011 Season

ASE begins season with a bang!
bomb hit

Well we started off the season tonight with a big win over Midland UMC. The kids played great and it was good to get that first game under our belt. Midland did not score in the top of the 1st inning as a couple of strikeouts and a good play by Landen Chaffey and Conner Austin would end their hopes of getting on the board.

Jacob Null would lead things off for us with a base hit and Landen Chaffey followed that up with one of his own. Parker Wehunt would then triple off the outfield fence to give us the early 2-0 lead. Conner Austin then grounded out to the first baseman but Parker would score on the play to make it a 3-0 ASE lead. After a Cade Burnham base hit, Steffan Fak and Thomas Cooley both went down swinging to end the inning with us holding the 3-0 lead.

Midland got things going a bit in the top of the 2nd. They had a couple of hits surrounded by a strikeout. They were hitting little groundballs down 3rd base line that we couldn't get to quick enough to make a play on. Suddenly the bases were loaded with only one out. Midland's next two batters went down on strikes and we had dodged a huge bullet.

Kylee Nading got our rally going in the bottom half of the inning with a base hit up the middle. Gavin Favela would then single and we were back in business. Evan Hindmarsh and Marlon Briggs both went down on strikes and just like that it looked as if we would not score. Alex Grey-Nicodemus would have something to say about that as he came through with an infield single, scoring both runs. Midland made a couple of throwing errors on the play and Alex would use his speed to come all the way around for an inside the park home run to give us a 6-0 lead. Brennen Linson would groundout to the pitcher to end the 2nd inning with the good guys leading 6-0.

Midland got their bats going once again and used a couple of ASE errors to load the bases with no outs. Their clean-up hitter then smacked a ball way over the centerfield wall for a grand slam and just like that it was a 6-4 ballgame. Parker then made a nice play on a groundball and threw to Conner for the first out of the inning. Back-to-back strikeouts would end their half of the inning and suddenly this one was getting interesting at 6-4.

Our bats would then end the suspense as we got things rolling in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Jacob lead off with another hit up the middlebut Landen would then go down swinging. Parker would once again hit one off the fence and would come all the way around for an inside the park home run to extend our lead to 8-4. Conner would then single and Cade would then double, scroing Conner for a 9-4 lead. Steffan then got his first hit of the night with a single up the middle. After a Thomas strikeout, Kylee would single, scoring Cade to extend our lead to 10-4. The game was then called because of the 6-run lead and we had notched our first victory of the season.

It was a good first game and certainly we have a lot of things to work on. The kids seemed to have a great time together in the dugout and their behavior was excellent. Great job tonight ASE, we are very proud of you.

ASE Week 1 - Player of the Week - Parker Wehunt
Parker Wehunt

Our player of the week for week 1 of the season is Parker Wehunt. In our game tonight versus Midland UMC, Parker was 2 for 2 at the plate with a home run and 4 RBI's. Parker also made a couple of good plays in the field and is a real leader out there for us. Great job Parker we are very proud of you!

ASE break out bats on Forsgren 9-0!
Big bat

We were the visitors in tonights game and wasted no time jumping all over the poor outmatched Forsgren team. Before they knew it we had 5 runs and this one was all but over after the first 10 minutes of play. Jacob Null got things going with a base hit and Cade Burnham would follow that up with one of his own. Parker Wehunt then slapped a ball to deep centerfield and used a Forsgren throwing error to come all the way around for a 3-run homerun. Conner Austin and Landen Chaffey kept the rally going with back-to-back singles. Steffan then reached on an infield single and the bases were loaded for Kylee Nading. Kylee hit a hard shot to right field, scoring Conner and Landen, giving us a 5-0 lead. Forsgren only managed one hit in their half of the inning and had three strikeouts. After one full inning of play, we held a 5-0 lead.

Thomas Cooley led off the top of the 2nd with a double to left field but that would be as far as he would get. Our next three batters went down swinging and just like that our half of the inning was over. Forsgren started the inning with a strikeout and their next batter grounded out to Conner at 1st base. A couple of more strikeouts would end the inning with us still holding a 5-0 lead.

In the top of the 3rd we got our bats going once again. Alex Gray-Nicodemus got the rally started with an infield single. Brennen Linson would groundout to the pitcher and Jacob went down swinging. Suddenly there were two outs and it looked as if we might not score. Cade would get us going once again with a double and Parker would score Alex with another hit. Conner would then hit a hard shot to right field, scoring Cade and Parker for an 8-0 ASE lead. Landen would knock in our final run of the game with a single and our lead had grown to 9-0. Steffan ended our half of the inning as he would groundout to the 1st baseman. Forsgren was not able to get anything going in the bottom of the inning and the game was called due to the time limit.

It was good to see our bats really come alive. We only had 4 strikeouts in the game, so that was good to see. I wish our defense had gotten some more work but Forsgren just did not hit the ball and there's nothing we can do about that. See you guys at practice on Wednesday at 6:30.

ASE Week 2 - Player of the Week - Alex Gray-Nicodemus
Alex

Our player of the week for week 2 of the season is Alex Gray-Nicodemus. In our two games this week, Alex went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. He has really improved his hitting from last season and is also doing a good job playing catcher and the outfield for our team. Great job Alex, we are very proud of you!

ASE Squishes the Cricket, 11-2!
hit ball

I told the kids before the game that this would be our toughest test to date so far. Cricket always has a good team and are well coached. They wasted no time putting pressure on our defense early in the game. The top of the 1st would see them come up with three straight infield singles. Their next batter would ground into a forceout as Cade Burnham stepped on 3rd for the first out of the inning. A run would score on the play and Cricket held a 1-0 lead. Their next batter would do the same thing and once again Cade was there for the forceout. Their final batter of the inning would groundout to our 1st baseman, Conner Austin and just like that we had dodged a huge bullet in only being down 1-0.

Jacob Null got things going for us with a base hit to left field. Cade Burnham then slapped a base hit up the middle and used a couple of Cricket throwing errors to come all the way around for an inside the park home run. Parker Wehunt then knocked a base hit to left field and Conner Austin would bring him home with a single of his own. Suddenly we held a 3-1 lead. Landen Chaffey kept the rally going with a base hit to right field, scoring Conner for a 4-1 lead. After an infield single by Steffan Fak, Kylee Nading would do down swinging for our first out of the inning. Thomas Cooley then picked his teammate up with a hard line drive to left field scoring Landen for our 5th and final run of the inning. After one full inning of play we held a 5-1 lead.

Cricket was not able to get anything going in the top of the 2nd inning. They started the inning off with a strikeout and then their next two batters hit the ball to Conner at 1st, who calmly snatched them up for two quick outs. The bottom half of the inning our bats did not do much either. Alex Gray-Nicodemus did get us going with an infield single. Marlon Briggs then popped out to Avery Shelly at 3rd base. Brennan Linson then went down swinging and it looked as if we might not score. That's when the "little man with the big bat," Jacob Null got us going again. He slapped a single to left field and Cade would follow that with one of his own scoring Alex for a 6-1 lead. Parker would then hit into a forceout and the inning would end with us holding the 5-run lead.

Cricket did manage a couple of hits to start the top of the 3rd. Things could have been much worse but Landen and Conner teamed up on a couple of good plays to hold Cricket to only one run in the inning. The bottom of the 3rd we would put this game away. Conner lead off with a double and Landen followed that up with one of his own. Steffan singled in Landen and suddenly this one was a blow-out at 8-2. Kylee and Thomas then both came through with base hits. After an Alex strikeout, Marlon would reach on an infield single to load the bases with only one out. Brennan then stepped up to the plate and came through with a big hit, scoring our 4th and 5th run of the inning, making it 11-2.

Cricket could not manage to get anything going in the top of the 4th and this one was called due to the run limit, with us notching a very convincing 11-2 victory. It was a complete game by our kids. We did some good things on defense and our bats really stepped up tonight. We only had three strikeouts in the game and when we can do that, we are going to be very tough to beat. Great job tonight ASE!

ASE and YMA battle to tie!
Sliding

In a game that would decide 1st place in the league standings, YMA and ASE would battle to a 6-all tie. Early on it looked as if we might win this one going away, but YMA would rally late and pull even with us. We had our chances to put the game away but just made a few mistakes on the bases and could not get a big hit when we needed it late in the game.

Things sure did start well for us in this one. Jacob Null and Cade Burnham led off the game with back-to-back singles and we were in business. Parker Wehunt then doubled off the centerfield wall scoring both runners for an early 2-0 ASE lead. Conner Austin then lined out to the shortstop but Landen Chaffey picked him up with a double to left field. Steffan Fak grounded out to the pitcher and I tried scoring Landen from 2nd base on the play and he got thrown out at home plate. It was a great play by the YMA defense. YMA led off the bottom of the 2nd with a hard shot to Parker at shortstop, who scooped it up and threw to Conner at 1st base. YMA's next two batters went down swinging and we held a 3-0 lead after one full inning of play.

The top of the 2nd we looked to add to our lead. Kylee Nading went down swinging but Thomas Cooley picked her up with a base hit. Alex then came through with a base hit to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with only one out. Marlon Briggs then hit a long ball to left field scoring both runs for a 5-0 ASE lead. Brennen Linson then went down swinging and Jacob lined out to the YMA shortstop to end our half of the inning. YMA would lead off the bottom of the 2nd with a base hit, but their next batter popped out to Cade Burnham at 3rd base. After a strikeout, the final out of the inning would come on a pop up to Landen at pitcher and after two full innings of play we held a 5-0 lead.

The top of the 3rd is where we had our chance to put this game away. Cade hit a hard shot down 3rd base line that the YMA player made a great play on and threw to 1st for a quick out. Parker would then reach on an infield single. Conner Austin then went down on strikes for the first time all season. Landen would pick him up with a single scoring Parker for a 6-0 ASE lead. Steffan then grounded out to the 3rd baseman and our half of the inning was over.

The bottom of the 3rd our defense would implode a little. YMA did manage a couple of very good hits but we threw the ball around a couple of times and costs ourself runs. Their fans were going crazy and our kids let it get to them a bit and suddenly it was a 6-3 game with their best hitter up. He cleared the bases with a long home run over the fence and just like that this one was a game again at 6-5. Once again in the top of the 4th we had our chance to put the game away. Kylee went down swinging, but Thomas and Alex both reached on infield singles. We needed one big hit from Marlon or Brennan but couldn't get it this time as both players went down swinging and our half of the inning was over.

YMA started off the bottom of the 4th inning with a strikeout. Their next batter looked to have done the same thing but the umpire mysteriously called a foul tip on the 3rd strike when no one else heard it but him? That would result in a base hit and then another hit would tie the game at 6. Conner would record the 2nd out of the inning with a ball he scopped up and their last batter would go down on strikes. The game was called due to the time limit and we settled for the 6-6 tie. It was a game we had in the palm of our hands and let get away that's for sure. I came away from the game knowing we have the much better team and we will get a second chance at them later in the season. Trust me, we will be ready for it!!!

ASE Week 3 - Player of the Week - Landen Chaffey
2010 Landen

Our player of the week for week 3 of the season is Landen Chaffey. Landen was 4 for 4 at the plate this week, scoring 2 runs and knocking in 4 RBI's in our two games versus Cricket and YMA. Landen also made several good plays at pitcher and really had a great week defensively for us also. Landen is one of the leaders on our team with his attitude and how hard he plays the game. Great job Landen we are very proud of you!

ASE destroys Forsgren 13-1!
Homerun

This one was a blowout right from the beginning, as we knocked the ball all over the field against an outmatched Forsgren team tonight. The result would be a 13-1 victory moving us to 7-0-1 on the season and still in a 1st place tie in the league standings with YMA. Forsgren batted first and their lead-off batter was able to reach on an infield single. After their next batter struckout, Conner Austin then caught a pop fly and caught the runner off 1st base for a double play. Great heads up play from Conner!

The bottom of the 1st we would waste no time getting our bats going. Jacob Null lead off the game with a ball hit to the fence. He used his speed an a Forsgren throwing error for an inside the park home run. Cade Burnham and Parker Wehunt would then both single and we were back in business. Conner Austin would force Cade out at 3rd for the 1st out of the inning. Landen Chaffey then cleared the bases as he stroked a ball to the right field fence and hustled all the way around for a inside the park home run. Steffan Fak would then pop out to the 3rd baseman. Marlon Briggs and Kylee Nading seemed to get a rally going again with back-to-back singles. Alex Gray-Nicodemus would go down swinging and the inning ended with us holding a 4-0 lead.

Forsgren was not able to get anything going in the top of the 2nd and our bats went back to work. Brennen Linson went down swinging to begin the inning, but Jacob picked him up with a infield single. Cade then popped out to the 3rd baseman and suddenly there were two outs. Parker would then knock a ball off the centerfield fence and came all the way around for another ASE home run. Conner and Landen would then single and Steffan would knock both of them in with a single of his own. Just like that it was a 8-0 ASE lead. Marlon would then score Steffan as he double up the middle and this one was all but over.

Forsgren did manage a run in the top of the 3rd on their very own inside the park home run. That would be alll they would get and with us leading 9-1 we were up once again. Kylee, Alex and Brennen would all single and the rout was on. We would manage 7 straight hits in the inning until the umps called the game due to the time limit. I'm glad they did because it was bad enough. We were only going one base at a time or it could have been even worse. Great job tonight ASE and be ready to play a pretty good National Family team on Saturday morning.

ASE Week 4 - Player of the Week - Jacob Null
Jacob Null

Our player of the week for week 4 of the season is Jacob Null. Jacob was 5 for 5 at the plate in our two games this week. He had a homerun, two doubles and had 4 RBI's. Wow, what a week at the plate for Jacob! He has been our lead-off hitter all season and has done a great job! I have never had a first year player be my lead-off hitter before but Jacob is no ordinary player. Great job Jacob, we are very proud of you!

ASE outscores National Family in a shoot-out!
baseball fire

Wow, both teams were really hitting the ball in this one. I love games like this when both teams are hitting the ball and it forces you to play defense. National Family really hit the ball well and this one was fun. In the end we just had way too much firepower for them to overcome. National Family came at us from the very beginning. They scored three runs in the top of the 1st and we were behind for the first time all season long. Our kids responded like I knew they would. We had three straight doubles to start the game, as Jacob, Cade and Parker all doubled to the outfield. After a Conner strikeout, Landen cleared the bases with an inside the park home run. Just like that we had a 4-3 lead. Steffan, Thomas and Marlon all reached on infield singles and Kylee knocked in Steffan for our 5th run of the inning.

National Family only managed one run in the top of the 2nd. Our defense made a couple of good plays to help hold them to only one run. The bottom of the inning our bats went back to work. Alex would single and Brennen would double to left field and the rally was on. Way to come thru you two! Jacob would then double, scoring both runners for a 7-4 ASE lead. After a Cade Burnham single, Parker would double scoring two more runs and this one was all but over. Conner Austin would then single, scoring our 5th and final run of the inning and we had a 10-4 lead heading into the 3rd inning.

National Family did not quit. They came right back out hitting the ball and was able to score a couple runs to pull within 10-6. That would be as close as they would get and this one was called due to time limit, with us securing the 10-6 win. The victory moves us to 8-0-1 on the season and still in a 1st place tie with YMA. We return to action on Monday at 5:30 versus Phillip Taylor. See you all there.

ASE drops hammer on Phillip Taylor, 11-5!
hammer

Well, we moved our record to 9-0-1 tonight with a convincing 11-5 win over an improving Phillip Taylor team. For a while it didn't look like it was going to be easy. Phillip Taylor really came out hitting the ball. Their first batter of the game reached on an infield single. Their next batter would groundout to Landen Chaffey who tagged the runner out going to first. Conner Austin would make a good play for us to record the second out of the inning, but a run did score on the play. Phillip Taylor's next batter lined out to Cade Burnham for the final out of the top of the 1st.

Our bats picked up where we had left off from the game before. Jacob Null got us going with a base hit. Cade then went down on a rare strikeout but Parker picked him up with a double to left field, scoring Jacob to tie the game at 1. Conner would then sinlge to score Parker and Landen came through with a base hit up the middle. Steffan Fak would then double, scoring Conner and Landen for a 4-1 ASE lead. Thomas Cooley then went down on strikes for the second out of the inning, After a Marlon Briggs shot up the middle, Kylee Nading grounded out to the pitcher for the final out of the inning.

Phillip Taylor came right back out hitting the ball. They managed to score a run in the top of the 2nd and would have gotten more if not for a great play by Landen and Conner. The bottom half of the inning we would put this game away. After Alex struck-out to begin the inning, Brennen Linson got us going with a double up the middle. Jacob would then knock him in and the rally was on! Cade then went down strikes for the second time in the game. Parker would pick his buddy up with a long fly ball to centerfield. Conner would single and we were back in business. Landen then would clear the bases and use his blazing speed for an inside the park home run. Just like that it was a 9-1 ASE lead.

Phillip Taylor really hit the ball well in the top of the 3rd and would manage to score three runs. Parker Wehunt made a really good play at shortstop to stop their rally and end their half of the inning with us still holding a 9-5 lead. Steffan led off our half of the inning with a very hard hit ball to left field. Phillip Taylor made a throwing error and Steffan hustled around for the home run. Thomas would then single and Marlon would come through with another good hit. Kylee would then groundout to 1st but Thomas would score on the play to make it a 11-5 game. Alex and Brennen would then both single and the game would be called due to the time limit. Another good win by ASE and another good performance by this great group of kids. Awesome job tonight ASE!

ASE Week 5 - Player of the Week - Steffan Fak
Steffan

Our player of the week for week 5 of the season is Steffan Fak. Steffan had an awesome week for us as he went 4 for 4 at the plate with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI's. He has really started hitting the ball well and has become one of our more dangerous hitters. He has also played good defense and has been a great addition to our team this year. Great job Steffan, we are very proud of you!

ASE buries Cricket 13-6!
player buried

I told the kids before the game that we had a very tough 4-game stretch coming up here before the city tournament and we needed to play the way we are capable of playing this last week of the season. They sure responded tonight with a 13-6 drumming of a good Cricket team. We were the visitors in tonights game and wasted no time in going ahead to stay. Jacob Null led off the game with a single and Landen Chaffey hit the ball to the right field fence for an inside the park home run and 2-0 ASE lead. Parker Wehunt would then double and Conner Austin knocked him in with a single up the middle. Steffan Fak then would hit a hard shot up the middle that rolled to the fence and would hustle all the way around for an inside the park home run. Just like that we had a 5-0 lead.

Cricket led off the game hitting the ball to the wrong person. Landen scooped up the first hit and tagged the runner out. Their next batter would also hit to Landen who threw to Conner at first for the second out. After and infield single, their clean-up hitter would hit a towering shot over the left field fence and suddenly it was a 5-2 game. After Lucas Reeder went down on strikes, it was our turn to rattle the bats again.

Cade Burnham led the top of the 2nd off with a single and Thomas Cooley would double to left field scoring Cade for a 6-2 ASE lead. Marlon then reached on a infield single and Thomas hustled to score on the play. Kylee Nading grounded out to the 1st baseman for the first out of the inning but Brennen Linson picked her up with an RBI single to make the score 8-2. Alex Gray-Nicodemus went down on strikes and Jacob grounded out to the pitcher to end our half of the inning holding an 8-2 lead. Cricket did not manage to score any runs in the bottom half of the inning and this one was about to get out of hand with the top of our order licking their chops.

After a rare Landen strikeout, Parker and Conner would both single and we were back in business. Steffan reached on an infield single loading the bases for Cade. He delivered with a hard line drive to the left field fence scoring all three runners and putting us up 11-2. Thomas kept the rally going with another run scoring single. Marlon and Kylee both singled and Brennen would knock in our 5th run of the inning with a single up the middle. This one was out of hand at 13-2. We moved a bunch of players around in the field and Cricket was able to score a few runs in the bottom of the 3rd but the damage was done in this one. When all the smoke had cleared we had notched our 10th victory of the season 13-6.

The win moves us to 10-0-1 on the season and in a 1st place tie with YMA. The league championship showdown will occur on Monday night at 8:30. Please be there at 8:00. Have a great weekend!

ASE rallies late, defeats YMA 9-8!
Homerun

Well the battle for the top of the league standings did not disappoint! Both teams battled hard the entire game and in the end I think the best team won. We made numerous mistakes on defense which allowed the game to be closer than it actually should have been. The top of the 1st YMA came right out at us hitting the ball. We made a couple of errors on defense and that really sparked their rally. Before we knew it we were down 5-0 and their fans were going crazy.

I gathered the kids up as they come off the field and told them it was no problem and we would come right back at them. That's exactly what we did. Jacob Null led off the bottom of the 1st for us with an inside the park home run. YMA threw the ball around a bit and we took advantage. Landen Chaffey then hit one to the Wal-Mart parking lot and Parker Wehunt did the same. Suddenly we had pulled to within 5-3. Conner Austin grounded out but Steffan Fak picked him up with a base hit up the middle. After Cade Burnham went down swinging, Thomas Cooley knocked a base hit to left field. Marlon Briggs would then come thru big time with a 2-run scoring single to right field to tie the game at 5 after one full inning of play.

YMA came right back out hitting the ball in the top of the 2nd. Our defense did make a couple of good plays to help stop the bleeding. Landen made a good play and Parker would record a force out but not before YMA had scored one run to take a 6-5 lead. I really thought this was our chance to get them but our bats suddenly went cold. Kylee Nading grounded out to the 1st baseman and Brennen and Alex both went down swinging. After two full innings of play YMA held a 6-5 lead.

YMA managed a couple of hits and we made another boo-boo in the field. Landen caught a pop out for the first out of the inning and after a strikeout it looked as if we might get out of the inning only down one. We made another error in the field and YMA scored two runs to take a 8-5 lead. Conner then stepped on his bag for the 3rd out and with only five minutes left in the game we were down 8-5.

I told the kids it was pretty simple, score 4 runs and we win the game. Jacob popped out to the 2nd baseman but Landen picked him up with his second home run blast of the game. Parker then smacked a hit to left field. Conner singled and we were back in business. Steffan grounded out to the pitcher and suddenly there were two outs and we were still down 8-6 with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Cade then smashed a double to right field scoring two runs to tie the game at 8. Thomas then came up with the winning run on second. He fouled several balls off down the left field line and the pressure was on as he was one whiff away from striking out. Thomas came through with a long fly ball to left field that hit the foul pole and landed in fair territory. Cade hustled from 2nd to score and our kids went nuts as we had pulled out the 9-8 win. YMA was a little upset, thinking the ball was foul, but it was clearly a fair ball. If it hits the foul pole it is a fair ball. That's why the foul pole is there. The win puts us all alone at the top of the league standings with a 11-0-1 record. All we have to do is take care of business the next two games and we are the Goldtrap league champs and will secure the #1 seed from Goldtrap in the up-coming city tournament. Great game tonight ASE. Very proud of your refuse to quit attitude!

<------ Click here to see the 2011 FSBGC Pee Wee City Tourney bracket. We won our 4th city championship in the last 6 years with a 7-5 win over a very good YMA team. We finish the season 17-0-1. Great season to a great group of players, parents and coaches!

Thomas Cooley
ASE Week 6 - Players of the Week - Thomas and Kylee

Our players of the week for last week are Thomas Cooley and Kylee Nading. Both players had game winning hits for us in our games last week. Thomas smacked a run scoring double in the last inning to lift us to a 9-8 win over YMA. A couple of nights later, Kylee hit a ball down 1st base line and came all the way around for an inside the park home run. Three runs scored on the play giving us a 11-8 lead over National Family. Great job to both players that have really become leaders on our team this year. We are very proud of you both!

Kylee Nading

ASE defense leads way against G-Major, 6-0!
Outfielder

While our bats have led the way in most of our games this season, it was actual our defense tonight that did the trick. I actually thought G-Major hit the ball very well, our defense just made plays. Anytime you hold a team to no runs in a pitching machine game it's pretty impressive. G-Major led off the game with a base hit but then their next batter struckout. Parker Wehunt then made a good play to get a force-out at 2nd base. Their next batter would pop up on the infield and Landen Chaffey was there to snatch it up.

We came to bat in the bottom of the 1st and wasted no time in getting on the scorebaord. Jacob Null led off with an inside the park home run and just like that we had a 1-0 lead. Landen Chaffey then drove one way over the right field wall for his 3rd home run of the week. Parker Wehunt would then double and Conner Austin drove him in for a 3-0 ASE lead. Steffan Fak then popped out and we were caught off the base for a double play. Cade Burnham then smacked a hit but was tagged out trying to stretch his hit into a double. After one full inning of play we had a 3-0 lead.

Neither team was able to score in the 2nd inning. G-Major hit the ball but Steffan Fak was on tonight asnd made a couple of good plays to leave G-Major heart broken. They had bases loaded with two outs and Steffan caught a line drive to end the inning. Great job Steffan! We came up to bat looking to put this one away but the strikeout bug bit us in this inning. Thomas, Kylee and Alex all went down on strikes, but Marlon and Brennen did manage to knock a couple of hits in the inning but got stranded on the bases.

G-Major continued to hit the ball right at our defense and we continued to make plays. After a couple of strikeouts, Conner Austin scooped up a ground ball and got us out of the 3rd with any damage being done. Jacob led off the bottom of the 3rd with a base hit and Landen would knock him in with an inside the park home run. Parker and Conner both reached base but once again we would hit into a double play. Cade singled in Parker for an 6-0 ASE lead and this one was all but over.

G-Major could not get anything past our defense in the top of the 4th as Parker and Landen made a couple of good plays to secure the win. The victory moves us to 12-0-1 on the season and wraps up the #1 seed in the up-coming city tournament.

ASE secures league championship with win over Nat Family!
Trophy

Well, it sure wasn't easy tonight. National Family came out and played their best game of the season according to their coach. They really hit the ball all over the field, but we matched them blow for blow. This was like a heavyweight fight and I knew the team that landed the last punch would be the winner.

We were the visitors tonight so went to the plate first. Jacob Null grounded out to the 2nd baseman but Landen Chaffey picked him up with his 5th straight home run of the week. Parker Wehunt would then double and Conner Austin singled him in for a 2-0 ASE lead. Steffan Fak then singled in Conner. Cade Burnham would force Steffan out at 3rd for the second out of the inning. Thomas Cooley then went down on strikes to end our half of the inning.

National Family came out hitting the ball all over the field. Before we knew it they had 5 runs and we found ourselves down for one of the first times all season. We came right back at them in the top of the 2nd inning. Marlon Briggs led things off with a base hit and after a Kylee Nading strikeout, Brennen Linson singled and we were bak in business. Alex went down on strikes and suddenly there were two outs. Jacob Null then blasted a ball over the right field fence for a home run and 6-5 ASE lead. Landen then would go down on strikes for only the second time all season. National Family came right back at us and rattled off several hits in a row. Things could have been much worse but Parker made a good play at shortstop and Conner would make a nice play at 1st to get us out of the inning only down 8-6.

We had the meat of our order due up in the top of the 3rd and I knew we could really make it tough on them. Parker led off with a home run but Conner went down on strikes. Steffan picked him up with a single and Cade would do the same. Thomas and Marlon would both single and bases were loaded for Kylee Nading. She hit a very hard shot down 1st base line, scoring all three runners. Kylee came all the way around for an inside the park home run but twisted her ankle as she slid into home plate. We went back out in the field with a 11-8 lead.

National Family had the bottom of their order up and was not able to get anything going. Landen would end the game as he tagged one of their runners out at 1st and the game was called due to the time limit. The win completes an un-defeated league season at 13-0-1 and secures the league championship. Congrats to a great group of kids! You guys deserve it!

ASE cruises past Cardinals, moves to 2nd round
Kid throwing ball up

Well this one was a mismatch from the word go. We were 13-0 league champs and the poor Cardinals were 0-13 and had not won a game all season. It looked as if early on they might put up a little of a fight but it just wasn't in the cards for them tonight. The Cardinals led off the game with a strikeout, then reeled off three straight hits to load the bases. Their next two batters went down on strikes and we had dodged an early bullet.

We came to bat in the bottom half of the inning and Jacob Null got things going like he always does! Jacob hit a hard shot up the middle that got past the outfield for an inside the park home run. Landen Chaffey would do the same and just like that it was a 2-0 ASE lead. Parker Wehunt would then reach on an infield single and Conner Austin would drive him in with a hard shot to right field. Conner hustled all the way around for our third home run of the inning. After Steffan Fak went down swinging, Cade Burnham hit a line shot to left field and circled the bases for yet another ASE home run. Just like that it was 5-0 and the Cardinals did not know what had hit them.

The 2nd inning both teams were hit by the striekout bug. Two of the Cardinals three batters in the inning went down swinging and the other hit the ball to the wrong person. Parker scooped up the ball and threw a laser to Conner at 1st for the final out of the inning. Marlon Briggs would lead off the inning for us with a strikeout and Thomas Cooley lined out to the shortstop. Brennen Linson reached on a infield single, but Alex Gray-Nicodemus also went down swinging. After two full innings of play we still held a 5-0 lead.

The Cardinals continued to struggle to get anything going against our defense. Landen made a good play at pitcher in the inning and the Cardinals were once again held scoreless. We came to bat in the bottom of the inning with the top of our line-up licking their chops. Jacob reached on a single and Landen would hit a gap in the outfield and hustle around for another inside the park home run. Parker would then single and Conner tripled for a 8-0 lead. Steffan once again went down on strikes but Cade picked him up with a double to left field, scoring Conner. Marlon would then single and Thomas would drive in our 5th run of the inning for a 10-0 ASE lead.

The Cardinals hit a ball to Jacob, who was now playing pitcher and he scooped it up and tagged 1st base for a quick out. Their next batter hit a ball that barely rolled out of the batters box and Parker, who was now at catcher, scooped it up and threw a strike to Conner at 1st for the second out of the inning. The Cardinals next batter went down on strikes and this one was called due to the time limit.

The win moves us into the 2nd round of the city tourney and we face a much improved National Family team on Thursday night at 7:30. See you all there at 7:00.

ASE blasts National Family 15-4, reaches City Semi's
Big bat

Wow, were we on tonight or what! We played as good a game tonight as I have ever had a team play. Our defense was awesome and at the plate we only made 2 outs the entire game. We had runners crossing the plate faster than the umps could count. The result would be a 15-4 blasting of National Family.

National Family came right out hitting the ball but our defense was up to the challenge. Landen Chaffey caught a pop-up and Parker Wehunt teamed up with Steffan Fak and Conner Austin on a couple of nice plays and just like that we were up to bat. Jacob Null, the best lead-off hitter in the league, got us going with and inside the park home run. Landen Chaffey and Parker Wehunt would do exactly the same and suddenly it was 3-0. Conner Austin reached on an infield single and after a Steffan Fak strikeout, Cade Burnham smacked another single. Marlon Briggs would hit a single up the middle, scoring Conner. Thomas Cooley then hit a long fly ball to left field scoring Cade for a 5-0 ASE lead.

National Family could not manage any runs in the top of the 2nd. Our defense continued to shine. Parker and Steffan teamed up once again on a nice force out at 2nd base. Parker then caught a pop up and we were out of the inning. Our bats kept the scoreboard busy. Brennen Linson and Alex Gray-Nicodemus both singled and Jacob was back up ready to put this game away. He did just that as he smacked a ball to the gap in right field for his second home run of the game and a 8-0 ASE lead. Landen and Parker then reached on base hits and Conner Austin would double them in and this one was out of hand at 10-0.

We would score 5 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd and it was a 15-0 blowout. We moved our defense around big time in the top of the 4th and National Family did manage to score 4 runs but this one had long been decided. The win moves us to 15-0-1 on the season and sets up a game versus the #2 seed from Evans on Monday night at 6:00. See you all there at 5:30.

ASE Week 7 - Player of the Week - Cade Burnham
Cade Burnham

Our player of the week for this week is Cade Burnham. Cade was 4 for 4 in our two games this week with 2 RBI's and a home run. Cade has really done a good job for us this year at 3rd base and is one of the big reasons we are league champs and in the final four of the city tournament. Great job Cade, we are very proud of you!

ASE advances to City Championship with win over Corley's
Hitter2

Well, it sure wasn't easy tonight. Corley's played a good game and battled us the whole way. Our bats were just too much for them to overcome and the result would be a 10-7 ASE victory. The win moves us into the Pee Wee City Championship, where we will face a familiar foe in YMA. They advanced with a 10-3 win over G-Major in the other Semi-Final game tonight. It will be ASE's 5th city championship appearance in the last 6 years. We are 3-1 in those games with the only loss coming to YMA last season.

Corley's came right out hitting the ball tonight. They lead-off the game with a base hit and after a strikeout, they would hit back-to-back home runs to take a 3-0 lead. After another strikeout, Landen Chaffey would get us out of the inning as he caught a pop fly for the third out. I told the kids we better have a bats going or this could be our last night together. We were up to the challenge as usual. Jacob Null led off the game with a very rare strikeout. It was only Jacob's third strikeout of the season. Landen Chaffey and Parker Wehunt quickly picked him up with back-to-back doubles. Conner Austin would single in Parker and Thomas Cooley knocked a base hit down 3rd base line. Marlon Briggs then came through big time as he doubled to score two runs and give us a 4-3 lead. Steffan Fak would then keep the rally going with a base hit and Brennen Linson would knock in our 5th run of the inning to give us a 5-3 lead after one full inning of play.

Corley's would not go away quietly though. They continued to hit the ball well but we were able to make a couple of plays to hold them at bay. Landen and Marlon teamed up to tag a runner out at home plate and the game would be tied at 5 as we come to bat in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Kylee Nading led things off with a base hit and Jacob would hit a gap in right field for an inside the park home run and a 7-5 ASE lead. Landen then knocked his 14th home run of the season as he found a gap in the outfield and hustled around to score. Parker and Conner would both reach on infield singles and Thomas would drive Parker in with a base hit up the middle. Marlon then knocked a ball all the way to the fence as he scored Conner for a 10-5 ASE lead.

The time limit was close to expiring and all we had to do was hold them to secure the win. Corley's managed a few hits to make it interesting but a couple of strikeouts and a put out by Conner would end the game with us securing the 10-7 win. Great game by both teams and Corley's has nothing to hang their heads about. They had a good season and should be proud of it. The win moves us to 16-0-1 on the season and a date with YMA tomorrow night for the City Championship. See you all there at 5:30.

ASE wins City Championship!!!!!!
1st place medal

Wow, this one was one to remember for sure. Both teams played like the champions they are and in the end, we were able to pull out a close victory. Both teams played very good defense and showed why they deserved to be playing for the city championship on this night. We knew our defense had to be sharp tonight and it was. We made plays all over the field from all different positions to secure this win. From Jacob in left field to Marlon behind the plate, help came from all different directions tonight for ASE.

I asked the umps before the game to let us play a full 5 innings since it was the championship game and the YMA coach said it was up to me. I said, "let's do it" and it was on at that point. I spent the entire game hoping I would not regret that decision. I had confidence in our team and knew we could outscore and outplay them. We were the better team and I felt our kids were ready to play and up for the challenge.

1st inning

Our defense made plays from the first batter to the last in this one. YMA's first batter popped up and Landen Chaffey hustled to make a sliding catch for the first out of the game. Marlon Briggs then caught a pop up near the fence for the second out of the inning. Marlon had to really hustle for this one. It was not an easy catch and he earned it. Coach Travis had been telling him all season that if he caught a pop fly at catcher there was some green stuff in it for him. Sure was good to see Coach Travis pull out the dough :). YMA then blasted a ball to left field for an inside the park home run and a 1-0 lead. Their next batter would groundout to Landen, who threw to Conner and it was our turn to hit down 1-0..... Jacob Null got things going for us with a triple to center field and Landen Chaffey singled him in to tie the game. Parker Wehunt would then score Landen and we had the lead for good in this one. Conner Austin then grounded out to the first baseman, but Parker would score on the play for a 3-1 ASE lead. Cade Burnham went down on strikes and Thomas would pop out to the pitcher to end the inning.

2nd inning

YMA led off the inning with a triple to right field as our defense fell asleep for a second on this one. Their next batter would groundout to Landen but the run would score on the play. After another base hit down the 3rd base line, YMA's next two batters would go down on strikes and it was our turn to swing the lumber still holding a 3-2 lead..... Marlon Briggs kept his hot hitting going with a double uo the middle and Steffan Fak would double to put runners at 2nd and 3rd with Kylee Nading coming to the plate. She came through with a double down the right field line scoring both runs and a 5-2 ASE lead. Kylee got in a run down between 2nd and 3rd and was tagged out after several throws back and forth. It was a great affort by all players involved. Awesome job Kylee!!! Brennen Linson then went down on strikes as the pitching machine started throwing the ball very high and Alex Gray-Nicodemus would groundout to the 1st baseman to end the inning.

3rd inning

Our defense really stepped up again in this inning. YMA led off the inning with a base hit, but had batted out of order and the runner was called out because of it. Their next batter then hit a ground ball to Parker, who scooped it up and threw a laser to Conner at 1st base for the second out of the inning. YMA's next batter would single to right field and our defense did a great job of holding them to just a single. Their next batter would hit another ball to Parker and this time he threw to Steffan at 2nd base fo rthe forceout to end YMA's half of the inning...... I gathered up the kids and told them it was time to put the hammer down on YMA this inning. We had the top of our order due up and we could put this game away. But YMA can play defense too, that's why they're in the championship game. Jacob grounded out to the 2nd baseman and Landen would pop out to the pitcher and suddenly there were two outs. Parker then grounded out for only his second out of the entire season. Just like that the momentum had shifted back to YMA. That is what makes a good championship game. Both teams making plays and battling their hearts out.

4th inning

After a strikeout to beging the inning, YMA would then double to left field. Jacob did a great job of getting the ball in and saving a run. Their next batter would also double to left field and once again Jacob was right there to get the ball quickly to Parker. The YMA runner got too far off 2nd base and Landen run him down for the second out of the inning. You could tell during this game that both teams were not used to playing teams that can throw and catch the ball so well like these two teams can. YMA's next batter went down on strikes but they had pulled within 5-3 with the back-to-back doubles..... Conner would then hit a high pop up that YMA snagged for the first out. Cade then got us going with a single to the left side. After Thomas went down on strikes, Marlon picked him up with a single up the middle. YMA made a throwing error and Cade would advance to 3rd on the play. Steffan then came through with the biggest hit of the game, as he doubled to score Cade and Marlon, giving us a 7-3 lead. Kylee then grounded out to the 2nd baseman but the damage had been done and we had the insurance we needed to pull this one out.

5th inning

I knew YMA would not quit. They were at the bottom of their order but they can hit up and down the line-up just like we do. Back-toback sinlges would get their rally going. Another single would score a run to make it a 7-4 game. Their next batter would strikeout and then our defense would make a couple of huge plays. First YMA would hit a very hard ball that hit off Landen's glove but Steffan made a heads up play to back him up and throw the runner out at 1st base. A run would score on the play to make it 7-5 but that out was huge! Then a play that I may never forget. YMA's next batter hit a very high pop up to Marlon at catcher. Marlon quickly bounced up from his catcher position and with mask still on snagged the ball for the final out of the game. The kids along with myself mobbed Marlon and this one was over. ASE had held on for a great championship win! Wow, what a game by two very good teams. Everyone on that field tonight played like champions. It's a shame there has to be a loser in a game like this. I could not be prouder of our kids who kept fighting and played their hearts out.

The win gives us a 17-0-1 record for the season with a league and city title as a result. The ASE tradition continues and this team will go down as one of the best I have ever had. This is our 4th city title in the last 6 years. In the years we have won the city title, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, we are an incredible 64-2-1. What a great run and this group was a big part of it. In the last two years this team is 29-2-2 with a league and city championship and also a city runner-up from last year. Great job ASE!

ASE Tourney MVP - Marlon Briggs
2011 Marlon

I think after the game it was pretty obvious who our player of the week is. But like I told the kids after the game, we have 11 MVP's on this team. It took all 11 players to win this tourney championship. Marlon really stepped up not only last night but the entire tourney. Here are his stats from the tourney. He was 7 of 8 at the plate with 4 RBI's and 5 runs scored. He got some big hits for us in the tourney! He made two really good catches last night to help us secure the win. Great job Marlon "smiley" Briggs. We are very proud of you!
